Back by popular demand! laugh

While He Plays His Fiddle

I ask him, "are you bad?
He answers, "yeah a little"
I ask him, are you sad?
He says "I've got my fiddle"

I try to find out more
But he is noncommittal
Sometimes you've got to quit
Unless you wish to quibble

CHORUS
So I sit down to my plate of vittles
And listen while he plays his fiddle
I cook the corned beef hash myself
That's why it tastes like kibble
But his fiddling sounds real happy
Like the crackling of my griddle
He isn't bad
He isn't sad
While he plays his fiddle

He finishes his tune
I wipe off my old griddle
The meaning of it all
Will always be a riddle

Each morning comes along
Greasing up my griddle
Not long before he's there
To fire up his fiddle

CHORUS
So I sit down to my plate of vittles
And listen while he plays his fiddle
I cook the corned beef hash myself
That's why it tastes like kibble
But his fiddling sounds real happy
Like the crackling of my griddle
He isn't bad
He isn't sad
While he plays his fiddle

Hey Again Michael,

I'm still flabbergasted at my own ridiculousness and since I didn't mean this lyric to take that twist, but completely see how it could hardly be read any other way...I decided to remove it!

sick

Hi Michael, Travis, Colin, David, John, Johnny, Mark and Calvin,

Your comments have me cracking up!

I've reposted the lyric, although you'll find it's a huge disappointment, based upon all the hype!

I think it's amusing that Mark has dragged poor, innocent Calvin into this TOTAL DEBACLE of a thread! smile

I am glad I came back. That is a cool and clever lyric.....don't let anyone tell you otherwise. And if someone has a dirty mind and wants to interpret it a different way, so what? - maybe Niki Minaj would fiddle with it.

What a clever write.
Reminds me of that fine establishment, the nursery rhyme and poems such as:
"Yesterday upon the stair, I met a man who wasn't there ...."
Where did the idea come from?

It's never too late? Yes it is, so do it now.

I said "more than just a little"
I like when I can think askew
'bout some diddling with a fiddle

Hi Vic,

Thanks so much -- I'm SO tickled you liked this!

With this, I was just amusing myself, trying to explore how couples fit different aspects of their lives into a life together, and how the activities that light a fire under us are so mysterious. The fiddle lighting a fire under the man in this, the griddle symbolizing that lighting of the fire too. The first two lines, which kicked off the whole thought process, came from a conversation i had once, regarding the definition of goodness and badness.

Thanks for stopping by!

Hi Lisa,

I'd like to suggest a little change of pace.

(All this diddling is making me dizzy.)

There are a bunch of griddles and fiddles in this song. How about a change of pace in the second pair of verses?

"He finishes his tune
I wipe off my frying pan
The meaning of it all
we'll never understand

Each morning comes along
Greasing up my frying pan
Not long before he's there
firing up his violin"

Just a thought.

Later,
Stan

Hi Stan,

It's nice to meet you and I'm sorry for the delay getting back here! I know exactly what you mean about all of the griddles and fiddles -- I was having a bit of fun with it. I'm going to review your very cool ideas and fiddle around with those verses and others some more!

Thanks so much!

She said "I disown all this diddling
With this lyric about fiddling
Because my mind is clean and pure as driven snow
So if you'll all excuse me
I'll interpret this less loosely
Than you cretins with your minds down there below"

Another thought about fiddles. They involve no spittle.

Good fun!

Hi John,

You've had me chuckling since I read your comment this evening!
I'm SO glad you've finally figured it out.
I am as pure as the driven snow that fell five minutes ago.
You are that sooty mound of melting snow in the corner of the parking lot that fell 15 days ago! laugh

Hi Dave,

YES -- I had never thought of how "spittle" could fit into this!
With a suggestion like that, you are obviously a cut above a mound of sooty snow! {laughing!}

Lisa, I can almost hear your giggles as you wrote this. It brings to mind my all time favorite nursery rhyme: Hey diddle, diddle/ the cat and the fiddle/ the cow jumped over the moon/ the little dog laughed to see such sport/ and the dish ran away with the spoon.

Write from your heart, not what you think others want to hear.

Hi Dan,

Thanks! I was giggling as I wrote it -- I'm glad that came through! And yes, that's one of the greatest nursery rhymes -- there's something about the dish running away with the spoon that is simply charming!

Hi Lisa,This reads like country...WOW!! This reads so well.

I love when a writer can fit in a word like "noncommittal" in a line. Love the Chorus a lot. Oh my! where didn't you get this idea from. This was a job well done. You really make me feel good inside after reading your lyrics.

Irwin

Hi Irwin,

I'm delighted this gave you a smile -- THANKS! The "noncommittal" kind of came out of nowhere. It all stemmed from the first verse and then I was just having fun! So glad you enjoyed it!
