Nashville is currently polarized with half of the music community being bro-country, and the other half embracing a more retro style of country music. One good example is the success this year by Chris Stapleton. This newest song was recorded with a retro country sound thus giving it that "new old" country music feel, which fit with the lyrics. I hope you enjoy it. http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=13307693BETTER MEMORIES 2016 Marvin Adcock We were skinny towhead kids in Louisiana Livin' not to far from the Arkansas line Barefoot walkin' hot blacktop with a quarter for a soda From the farm to town in the summertime Sunday dinner always centered 'round the family In the shotgun house out in the red dirt pines Grandma scoldin' grandpa for teasin' us and bein' ornery It's like a Kodak moment in my mind The older I get, the more it sinks in I wouldn't be who I am if not for where I've been Every stage of every age rollin' down life's road I swear there'll never be better memories than those I remember tiny fingers holdin' tight From a little hand graspin' on to mine It was like the Lord had pulled a chord turnin' on the light Puttin' my priorities in line The older I get, the more it sinks in I wouldn't be who I am if not for where I've been Every stage of every age rollin' down life's road I swear there'll never be better memories than those Sometimes I think I'd like to have those moments back But I wouldn't trade those days for where I'm at Cause the older I get, the more it sinks in I wouldn't be who I am if not for where I've been Every stage of every age rollin' down life's road I swear there'll never be better memories than those...Lord knows How could there every be better memories than those

Hi Marvin! You have great southern lyrics here with a strong melody. Sounds like a hit. Jim

Very well done, Marvin. I love that the nostalgia isn't too sappy and that the bridge puts looking back into perspective. Really sounds great.

Thanks everyone for the comments. The time I spent as a kid on that little Louisiana farm are the best memories anyone could ask for. The farm bordered a bayou, so my brother and I fished everyday and swam in my grandpa's pond. There was nothing like being a kid in the country back then. Thanks again guys for listening!
Best, Marvin

Hi Marvin:
Sorry I'm late again. This sure resonates with me on all fronts. Traditional Southern Country with great lines... although I wonder how many of today's listeners will understand the Kodak line... LOL? Your vocalist sure hit the nail on the head and it would be wonderful if one of today's artists with some real "starpower" would record it. Best of luck with it. ----Dave

Great when you can write a story song from your own personal history. You took the facts and feelings of your past, and very masterfully put them together, made them rhyme and added them to a melody that altogether sounds like something I'd hear on the radio today. Your chorus was melodically superior to your verse melody and it's the chorus that counts. Your Chorus is perfect lyrically and melodically!!! Best, Lynn

Hi Dave and Lynn,
Thanks for taking the time to listen and comment on this newest demo. We are going to make a few tweaks to it this coming week in the studio, but other than that it is ready to pitch. I appreciate everyone here at JPF for always keeping me motivated.
Best, Marvin

We went back into the studio and did a few punches on some of the lines. I added "Barefoot" to the beginning of verse one line three, and changed the word "goin'" to "rollin'" in the chorus. I think it completes the song and makes it now ready to pitch.
Best, Marvin
