Hi, here's one by me and John, thanks for tuning in. Thanks for the fun John. please listen... http://www.soundclick.com/bands/0/calvinstewartSweethearts Gone © John Voorpostel/C. Stewart ( 2016 ) Someone's sweethearts gone Someone's sweethearts gone Well did you see the movie were the heroine died In the arms of her lover, everyone cried There were tears in the alleys Tears in the valleys Someones sweethearts gone And all the names carved deep, on the monument wall Remebering those who fought for it all There were tears in the alleys Tears in the valleys Someones sweetheart is gone Like silhouettes that we see, somewhere in the mist Not quite in focus, but there nonetheless Almost like a religion. almost like a religion And now the movie’s a reality the heroes are gone The lights were turned off and and the curtain was drawn There were tears in the alleys Tears in the valleys Someone's sweethearts gone Like silhouettes that we see, somewhere in the mist Not quite in focus, but there nonetheless Almost like a religion. almost like a religion Someone's sweethearts gone Someone's sweethearts gone

Well thank you for taking this and running with it Cal. It was a nice surprise to come here this morning to find out you turned the lyric into a song. There's stuff I write that never makes it to music as I lose time and focus etc., and this one never had a note until you brought it to life.
Quite nicely I will add. You re wrote the lyric so it fits the music well. I especially liked how you modulated down into "like silhouettes that we see..."
If writing ever becomes work I think I'm going to have to stop

Hi John and Calvin,
Wow! I really enjoyed this.
A lyric that goes from the concrete like the heroine dying, to the slightly allusive "monument wall" (The Vietnam Vets Wall within the Washington Monument?) verse, and the more abstract silhouettes that are "almost like a religion" which is my favorite stanza.
Calvin, you deliver this with a cool deliberate-ness, and your guitar playing is spot on and very pretty, and there's subtle harmonies in there that I really appreciate, too.
Great work, guys! Mike

Hey John and Calvin,
Stirring lyrics here and classic moody Calvinization to bring them to life. Especially liked the "tears in the alleys/tears in the valleys lines"....
Great combo you two.
Cheers, Beth

Calvin. Your arrangements are always interesting and I always wait for the last note. You take a sad song and somehow turn it on it's head. "Someone's sweethearts gone ..... oh ohh" It shouts "PUT ME IN A QUENTIN TARANTINO FILM"

Hi Calvin,
Out of all your songs listed this is the first I've listened to. What a great way to tell this story--almost in a haunting fashion. For anyone who has seen the Vietnam wall for example--if you think of that vision while listening to this song--it's pretty moving to say the least. Great job, Roger.

A beautiful collab guys. An excellent write John full of emotion and Calvin you capture it wonderfully. I was just thinking that I wanted to hear a musical break when... bamm, the little guitar breaks kicked in.
Nicely done.

Well this one has gotten some attention Thanks for your kind words Michael, Beth, Vic, Roger, Nelson and Mackie...and to all who looked in to see what Cal was up to with my lyric. FYI, this is what Cal started with...you can see the changes he made that transitioned it into a song Did you see the movie were the heroine died In the arms of her lover, everybody cried There were tears in the alleys, everyone was unhappy America’s sweetheart in stone America’s sweetheart is gone There’s a name on the wall in the park by the mall In remembrance of those who have fought and have fallen There were tears in the alleys, everyone was unhappy American heart ache in stone American heart ache in stone Like silhouettes in the mist Not quite in focus, but the past nonetheless And almost a religion Almost a religion The movie’s now reality and the heroes are gone Not quite sure what for but then the truth has been withdrawn There are tears in the alleys, everyone is unhappy American heart ache in stone American heart ache in stone
If writing ever becomes work I think I'm going to have to stop

Calvin & John, There's an interesting guitar hook in this song. Reminds me a little of the Rolling Stones. I'd like to hear what it would sound like with a full band treatment. Another nice collaboration between the two of you.

Hey Calvin,
Very cool, especially neat lyrics. I kind of get a feeling that the "nonetheless" rhyme could be improved. Not so much that it's "not a strong rhyme," rather, an opportunity to say more there as an analogy etc.
Great job Calvin!

Calvin and John, good joint effort. I especially liked this:
