country... Long May You Ride Zeke was a born saddletramp, a cowboy whose fav'rite camp was his mare on a starlit mile some of the wranglers would say, he had a gal in Sante Fe but he'd deny it with a smile when cowboys came near a town, they'd hit ev'ry saloon around but Zeke stayed out on the range cattle calls in the sunset, from a lonesome silouhette he loved the herds and he'd never change long may you ride, over the rugged land with time at your side, like the wind, like the sand late Fall, blowing hard n cold, they had to scout waterholes like always Zeke volunteered the cook fixed him a hot plate, Zeke sat on his horse and ate then into the dust he disappeared long may you ride, over the rugged land with time at your side, like the wind, like the sand his horse came back at sunrise, a cold distance in Zeke's eyes his old hat frozen to his head they say by his grave that day, was a gal from Sante Fe who looked to the sky when she said, "you swore you'd never go where, ranges and horses were rare and calfs and colts couldn't play but if he hears your songs now, and I know someway, somehow old St. Peter will say, ""long may you ride, over the Promised Land with time at your side, like the wind, like the sand"" (c)2002 Robert George ------------------

Thanks again, Jim. Someday I will write a lyric about the 70s and rhyme Tom T. Hall with Monty Hall.

A parable from before there were smartphones, tablets, and even cars. The next Gene Autry or Marty Robbins, where are you?

This is really, really excellent. A great story and strong rhyming structure. I especially like how the Santa Fe gal reenters at the end of the song. Got a melody yet? Dave
