[size:14pt][color:#33CCFF]Mystic Chords

Hi folks. We haven't been around the forum in quite a while and we hope everybody is having a great year. I imagine that at some point everybody writes or considers writing about the tribulations of the aging road musician. I gave it a shot and floyd not only helped big time with the lyric but also gifted me with a great melody.

Janice sings lead, floyd provides harmony, Tom Adams plays acoustic/electric guitar and I handled the mix/mastering and produced the video. There's a little bit of info at the end about the history of the term "mystic chords." BTW, the guitar in the vid photos is Janice's '43 D-18 (a cannon!).

Thanks for your time to listen and comments are most welcome.

Hi Janice, Bud and Floyd:

Loved the song... pure truth about the fate (musically) awaiting all of us eventually. As always, Janice's vocal carries the day but to me... the words are a "wake up call" about the futility of our calling. We are mere mortals... and nothing lasts forever... especially in the music world. Well done. Can you tell I've always been a sucker for a sad song? LOL! ----Dave

Hi Janice! Hi Bud!

So great to hear from you. smile

Another beauty of a song from you two. Janice your vocals express such a range of emotions for me.

Very clean and beautiful production, and the 'sideman work' from Floyd and Tom are top-notch as well.

And the lyric is a beautifully sad short story where every line conjures cinematic images in my mind..love the Martin line especially..

Mike

Nice song. Last Sunday morning I watched a tv segment on Bonnie Raitt. Vocal tone reminded me of her.

What a beauty.
Love everything about it and the images are stunning.
Janice's vocal had me transfixed and I loved the last line hanging in the air.

One to be proud of.

Thank you Dave. We appreciate the thoughtful comments and your time to listen. We are both suckers for sad songs also...but I've never been particularly successful in writing lyrics for them -- but floyd enabled me to realize my vision with this one.

Great to see ya around. Nice classic Country Tune. I felt like I was waiting for a Western movie to begin watching the video! I actually did like the vid--a nice way to have lyrics appreciated for sure, and gave me some ideas!

Janice so nice hearing your voice as always. Always nice just hearing Floyd in the background instead of being front man------------just kid'n you Floyd!

Nice work all!

Mike, we are most appreciative of those comments. The further we get from our bluegrass roots and venture into new genres the more this support means. Your mention of the vocal, lyric and production is appreciated more than you can imagine. And floyd's contributions and Tom's guitar played a huge part in the production.

Thanks again!

Wowza kids!

This is wonderful. What is it about the story of an aging artist that literally pulls at the heartstrings? I suppose, in light of the recent passing of so many musicians this year, in some ways it's a privilege to have lived long enough to pine about the past.

Regardless, I thought your hook -- even without the poignant explanation of its inspiration -- was stellar and a perfect platform for the rest of the lyrics. There are so many great lines to cite, but I especially enjoyed this one:

He turns the radio up....and downs a few more beers

Every note and every word -- written and sung -- were perfectly paired.

Thank you so much for sharing!!

Cheers,
Beth

Thanks Vic. It took considerable time to find photo images that fit the lyric imagery. I'm actually not a big fan of videos as they tend to steal what one might imagine just from the lyric. But with a lyric video all the image has to do is at the very least not distract from the words and at best offer up something that the listener will like but still give room for personal interpretation. Or something like that! smile

Thanks for listening and offering the nice remarks.

Hey Guys!

Nice work all!

steady-eddie.

Thanks for the kind words Eddie. Glad you liked the vid. Lyric vids are a good way to get a tune on YouTube if you don't have the inclination to use clips. The hardest part is finding public domain pics and then editing them to have a similar look and feel.

Thanks again,

Regardless, I thought your hook -- even without the poignant explanation of its inspiration -- was stellar and a perfect platform for the rest of the lyrics. There are so many great lines to cite, but I especially enjoyed this one:

He turns the radio up....and downs a few more beers

Every note and every word -- written and sung -- were perfectly paired.

Thank you so much for sharing!!

Cheers,
Beth

Beth, we very much appreciate you taking the time to listen and to comment on those aspects of the tune. Co-writing and working with floyd on this was a lot of fun and Tom really iced it with the repeating acoustic riff.
