I wrote this one last year and came across it again. My take on what we've been told.
History Was Not History © 2015 Cindy Prince
Back in elementary We were all told lies We were told what the white man wanted Looking back I'm not surprised
Mr. Washington was a liar Though we were told he never did They didn't tell us about the Native Americans They wanted all those massacres hid
Chorus History was not history Blood was hidden under the rug Century after century The big ones did nothing but shrug The US was always the good one Just don't ask the Japanese Don't ask the blacks or natives Make them all stay on their knees... on their knees
Don't forget the esteemed Columbus He has his own holiday Never mind that he was a killer and rapist Those facts are still in the grey
Bridge Most of us had no idea how women finally got to vote Cause women then, "Do not have the smarts" (quote, unquote)
Repeat chorus
So many things we never learned Cause the big men didn't want us to Some of the true stories are finally coming out I'd say it's none too soon
Repeat chorus

Just got to thinking about how as a kid school always said Washington never lied and it went on from there. History is always from a view point-one of many. I think with me having Cherokee and Choctaw blood, that it seems worse somehow for me personally. But then, I am also English, Irish, French and a couple others probably.

A heckuva treatise on on the untold stories. I read somewhere that "history is written not made" and there's some truth to that. Good thought provoking lyric Cindy.

I thought this bitter and negative...until I found out about your heritage... Then I understood. Have you read Stolen Continents by Ronald Wright? https://www.amazon.ca/Stolen-Continents-Conquest-Resistance-Americas/dp/0618492402Powerful because it actually reflects on the history from the indigenous peoples point of view. Was an amazing eyeopener for me
If writing ever becomes work I think I'm going to have to stop

Thanks John. Yes, I think this all stems from that. No, I haven't read this book but want to. I think I remember hearing about it. Cindy

"If one man can do it, any man can do it. It is true. But the real question is, if one man did it, are you willing to do what it takes to do it as well?" –Brian Austin Whitney
