I have not had much of an opportunity to write or listen to new music hear latley. My son who plays in a metal band came over and was telling me about how he was writing some of their new songs in multiple time signatures. We set the click for 7/4 time and he laid down a very simple but interesting acustic track and we began building around it. The song is primarily in 7/4 but alternates between 4/4 and 7/4 on the chorus. Special thanks to my son Ryan for co writing the music for "Strange". I'll be back later tonight to check out some of the new tunes here. Looks like there are many new songs to enjoy! (Revised version) https://soundcloud.com/user-655800373/strange-revisedStrange So many rhymes So many popsicles Too many times Life presents obstacles We're keeping it real As real as its meant to be Somethings I'm told Really aren't meant to see Cover your eyes It's hovering over you Life passes by When your just passing through Everyone's waiting For something to change Isn't it sad? Isn't it oh so strange? I'm taking a walk Outside my world today I don't want to talk I just want to feel ok Color me wrong Color me impossible That I should believe Something improbable Cover your eyes It's hovering over you Life passes by When your just passing through Everyone's waiting For something to change Isn't it sad? Isn't it oh so strange?

Hiya Tom,
Wow, this is very cool. The music was a bit unusual, as you suggested, and it kept me wondering what was going to happen next. It was like Neil Young and the soundtrack of Pinball Wizard had a baby! It did not hurt that you included and found a groovy loose rhyme for POPSICLES!!
Thanks for sharing! Beth

Beth,
Thanks for listening! Yeah, music is a bit unusual but that's what we were striving for. It was a lot of fun working with Ryan. He was out of his element a bit too so we both did something a little different.

Well said, Tom. Love the different time signature too. The end was a bit abrupt but I enjoyed my listen.

Ricki,
Yeah, the ending could come to a smoother conclusion. It was partly by design in keeping with the quirkiness of the music. The whole song, lyrics and all came together in about 2 hours. Really started out more as an experiment in time signatures. This most likely will not see much further development but it was fun working with my son. Thanks for listening!

Tom,
This is fantastic. So original, so unique. So interesting.
Cool write. Cool instrumentation. You could build a career on this style/sound! I listened several times - really enjoyed it.
(I could also hear YES - the group - doing this in that big YES way...)

7/4 my favorite time signature! Just teasing. I think this is the first song that I have heard in that timing. But you wanna know what? It works in my opinion . And that chorus moving to the 4/4 really pays off nicely. Inspirational. Tom

Strange... yet intriguing. Melodic without being melodic! It works and your vocal supported the music so well. Not sure if it reminds me of another artist... but I really enjoyed it. If you seek nits... the ending seemed abrupt... and possibly you intended it to be that way? Thanks for sharing. ----Dave

Floyd,
Thank you so much for the encouragement! I do actually like the band Yes but have never really thought of them as a musical influence. The comparison is flattering none the less!

Hey Dave,
Thanks for listening! I did try to smooth out the ending and also added a few other subtle changes. Appreciate your thoughts!

Tom,
Yeah, that was my first venture into 7/4. Every once in a while you have to try something new.
