This is a song i actually wrote in 1984, while in college and still very new to songwriting. I had recorded just an acoustic demo on a crappy old tape recorder, at the time, with a friend of mine. I dusted it off and decided to have a go at a more proper recording. I am happy to say the prediction I made in this song did not come true as I have been happily married now for over 30 years to the woman with whom my relationship was the subject of this song. Anyway, I would love to have your feedback on the song and the new recording. IT'S TOO LATE (I'M GOIN' DOWN)Music & Lyrics by David S. Becker (c)1984, 2016 David S. Becker Music All Rights Reserved https://soundcloud.com/gocartmoz/its-too-late-im-goin-downINTRO VERSE 1When we met there was a spark And it's still burning in my veins But for you the candle has slowly burned out It was washed in the rain VERSE 2There's no more magic in your eyes And when you look at me there is no trace Of the love that I thought we once had shared It is gone from your face CHORUSAnd it's too late I'm goin' down It's too late I'm fallin' off this merry-go-round It's too late I'm goin' down It's too late And if I fall I might never be found Baby lift my spirits For I'm Goin' down VERSE 3Well I know that you care for me too But it's not like I care for you There are times when I just want to hold you all night But it's too good to be true CHORUS SOLO CHORUS x 2

I really like the groove and performance. I'm not sure the logic in V3 is clear.

Sounds like a keeper, Dave. Maybe, a little reinforcing work needed on last two lines, verse 3.

It's working on one level, because it made me quite sad when listening to it. There's an earnestness in your voice that just made it seem like it was really happening. Man, I was bumming out. Glad you shared the backstory, else I would have been seriously upset.
Very few songs trigger an emotional reaction in me, this one did. So, yeah it packs a punch.

Hi Dave:
1984 seems so long ago until I think of 1954... LOL! I think you have a winner in "It's too Late!' Glad you "dusted it off" and did another recording. Logic, someone said... but we both know there is no logic when relationships between men and women are involved!
Best of luck with it! ----Dave

Nice!, Dave...
Your productions get better all the time. This is one of your best. I really enjoyed it. Terrific sound.
A couple of suggestions - little things that aren't necessary - because this is good as is...
The vocal is nice and clean and clear and out-front. I thought it was just a bit too out-front for the song style (rock-singer-songwriter ... kind of Petty/Melloncamp..). Maybe "darken" it a bit with a bump of low end EQ and roll off a bit at the high end?)
The final chorus could use some big, held guitar chords - explosive with distortion - on both sides - to take it out... and change it up from the previous choruses - your vocal is every bit a match for it...
Well done!

I like the overall feel to this one, Dave. Just a couple of things that might make it even better. The third lines in all the verses are a real mouthful and could be tightened up. V3 is the weak spot in the song, hasn't got the same emotional punch and could benefit from another look.
Overall it's a keeper and worth a little more time and thought.

Hi Dave, Great song, and your production really pops--I love the two (hard panned left/right) acoustic guitars which are playing similar material (double tracking)-they are so close I wondered if that was really just one guitar track with a plugin like ADT (which achieves the kind of fake double tracking by slightly speeding up/slowing down one side)or two. If those are two guitars--man..you are tight, rhythmically with your acoustic playing! The dual leads tell me we share a love of that Betts/Allman pentatonic style of dual leads (in the second half of the solo)--it's some simple but beautiful dual soloing there. I like the upfront vocals. Your vocals always cut through the mix, and these are some really nice ones. I love your growl on a few lines. Great stuff. Mike

Dave this is a beaut. It's a wonderful arrangement, especially the piano and the sweet guitar solo. Such a beautiful chorus, with warm and expressive vocals /harmonies through out.
You've been on a creative tear as of late, eh?

Man, that says it all. Strong.
The vocals - the entire production - sound great on the monitors. Cool playing all the way through and killer drums sound. We like the panning...it has a nice live "airy" sound to it.
Gonna be on the road for a few days and glad you are on SC so I can add it to our playlist.
We much enjoyed it.

A really nice one. I enjoyed listening. Here is something play around with. IMO, burning out and washing out are two separate things. It burned out. So, you could consider the last line using "pain" or "remains" or ? Congratulations on your marriage. Dave

Hi Go!
Long time no see and hear....Gotta not let that happen again! Definitely an Allmany feel to the guitar harmonies....and your distinctive Petty/Dylany delivery makes the lyrics sparkle and come alive.... Production is top notch!

I liked this one dDave and it shows, its good to go back and rework old material once in a while. As a suggestion or two for v3.Delete WELl.BUT both of them and tighten line 3 by using THERE'S TIMES. Travis
