You Better Humble Yourself ©Dan Sullivan 2016 Where were you when the cornerstone was set? Where were you when the clouds of the sky were made? Where were you when the stars were hung like lanterns? Where were you when the foundations were laid? You better humble yourself Yes indeed, you better humble yourself You better set aside your pride and humble yourself Where were you when he set the day and hour? How do you know what’s hidden from the Son? On whose authority do you teach the Rapture? Who are you to know the things to come? You better humble yourself Yes indeed, you better humble yourself You better set aside your pride and humble yourself (instrumental) You better humble yourself Yes indeed, you better humble yourself You better set aside your pride and humble yourself Where were you when the cornerstone was set? Where were you when the clouds of the sky were made? Where were you when the stars were hung like lanterns? Where were you when the foundations were laid? A 60s Blue Beat,/Ska feel in the melody, music I've always had an ear for. The lyric is also similar to some of the output of this genra and period and I mean the raw Jamaican recordings my Dad would sometimes bring home from the docks having traded with members of crew. When cargo ships dropped anchor at the port of Manchester. Enjoyed the song Dan Travis

Travis, Thanks. I enjoyed your thoughts on the song. It's interesting how music made its way around the world before the digital age. I recall reading how the Beatles and the early British bands often acquired 45 rpm records from the states the way your Dad did. Now, all the barriers to access are gone. But I doubt the songs are any better because of it.

Hi Dan:
You have the makings of a song capable of lasting for ages. If I were a big-time producer and had unlimited resources... I would hire a "Showstopper Vocalist" and a full Gospel Choir for backing... and let them take your song to the charts and beyond.
Great message in those lyrics and the melody "brings it" so well. Thanks for sharing and best wishes for success with this well-crafted song.

Thanks, Dave. I'm glad you liked it. Most people don't like being preached to. Look what they did to Jesus.
