Folk ballad.
Here Lies a Man copyright 2016 OpenMikeMusic
V1
Here lies a man and nothing more. More or less, like the man next door.
Sometimes he's good, sometimes he's bad, here lies a man.
V2
He stood in line, they called his name, he was different, yet all the same.
He was lost. He had a plan. Here lies a man.
He was everything to some and nothing much to everyone else. He always said too much, but it was never enough for the few, who knew this man well.
He's no devil, but he's no saint. He loved hard but soft on hate.
He took a fall, he made a stand, here lies a man.
Now he's gone, he had a name. But its not written, and there's no date, all that's carved in the weathered sand, Here lies a man.

Like the tomb of the unknown soldier. I may be one not too many will remember when my time is up, unless, of course, one of my songs could strike it fairly big. There are many who prefer not to have a lot of notoriety.

Hi Michael, This has universal appeal and is well written, imo. I like how you mix the "commonness" with opposite qualities. It's so simple that it's deep. Makes me think of every man's mortality and "here lies a man" is a bit ironic too, as he's not here, but he is. If that makes sense! Would be interesting to hear it sung with the emotion that is beneath those lines. Kristi
A musician must make music, an artist must paint, a poet must write, if he is to be ultimately at peace with himself. What a man can be, he must be. -- Abraham Maslow, American Psychologist

That's no doubt one of the reasons I have been doing this writing. In order to leave something behind when the end time comes. More than likely someone will find a lot of my stuff following my demise. Probably won't be able to get much to market in my lifetime unless I score a lottery win, as it is so expensive. Anyone who knows a more affordable way can be my guest.

That's ironic, Beech. Was thinking the same thing. Maybe "aaaaaafter" I die, my words will render me immortal!!!!...lol.
Not mocking you, my friend....but we all do strive for recognition in this life.....more so, we'd all like those emotions that spurred that particular song, validated by our family, friends, fans, strangers....in this life or the next. Peace.
