Back from FAWM, I did complete it and create 14 new songs in the month of February!! This is one of those songs, thought I'd post it because it isn't sad enough around here LOL! Yes, the sad girl is back. I was very tired near the end of FAWM, so any mistakes made were from me falling asleep while I was singing (seriously, I did) WORDS CAN BREAK YOUR HEART on SoundCloudWords Can Break Your Heart by Tammy jann © 2018 Find the words that hurt me best was that one better than the rest choose the ones that will do the deed Make them sharp and make them sting and hope they cover everything fire them at me, make me bleed chorus They're carving scars pushing me down pooling in my soul making me drown I'm falling apart words, words, words can break your heart Mix them up and don't be shy lay them down to make me cry then start by turning another page Breaking me down isn't a crime So you're free to do it all the time I never thought it would be this way chorus They're carving scars pushing me down pooling in my soul making me drown I'm falling apart words, words, words can break your heart bridge Is there anything special that you see could you dig real deep and take another look at me chorus They're carving scars pushing me down pooling in my soul making me drown I'm falling apart words, words can break your heart Outro words, words, words can break your heart

Tammy,
This is beautiful!
A solid write. The chorus is outstanding.
The real "star" here is your vocal. You have always had a sincerity to your vocals. There seems to be a new "maturity" to them. A soulful sound similar to what has always been most appealing about Joni Mitchell - without being "an imitation of Joni Mitchell". Captivating. Exquisite.
Your guitar and your recording here well done, too. Nice.

Really enjoyed my listen. That vulnerable sincerity of your vocal... combined with soft strummed minimal backing really make this special. As Floyd said, "The real "star" here is your vocal."
I can't speak regarding maturity... seems I never got there... but this one touches all the right buttons. Although I never cared for her personally, I can hear Joan Baez or Carly Simon running away with this on the charts... not that they would do it one bit better than you. Superb! ----Dave

Your vocal soothes a troubled mind, Tammy.
It's a pretty song and the only sugg I have is (assuming you're in Bb) to try singing a D note on "heart" and playing a Bb chord instead of a minor chord there.

Wow! What immediately comes to mind:
This one oozes sincerity and soul.
One that will rip the paint right off of your heart.
Terrific vocal and write and deserving to be heard by many.
A great addition to our playlist!

Yes the vocal is the star here. Saying "words" 3 times in a row in the chorus didn't flow well for me and I wondered what it would sound like stretching the word just once. (like "apart") I kept thinking of Carol King and how this would sound with piano backing rather than guitar. It felt to me like the transition between chorus and second verse needs something. I'm a bit confused by the bridge. After all the hurt she's still hoping for something from this person? Also the lead-in to the bridge could be better. Actually, I don't think that bridge fits very well.
Lovely voice, singing some well written lines, best of luck! -Mike

Vic,
Always happy when you lend an ear to my songs and you know I have no musical knowledge so are you suggesting me going up or down on "heart"? LOL

Mike,
Thanks for the listen.
The three words line used to be different and I chose to repeat the words so that the listener understands that they are never ending and each one more painful than the next, an artistic and interpretive choice.
I love singing with piano, but sadly I can't play one and can barely play guitar, but we do what we can to get the song out of the gate.
I agree that transitions are always difficult and I try to take my time to get them figured out, but this was created in FAWM and I didn't have any time at all, but I wouldn't mind coming up with a better transition.
I have a personal attachment to the bridge and yes, as a woman who also knows many other women, I hear them getting torn down by their own family and friends and trying so hard to hope it will end and resolve itself, many women are trapped in relationships, having harsh words chip away at their very sense of self until they start believing it and some even take the blame for their situations and yes...they actually do hope that very same abuser would say something nice, just to have one good day or one good feeling. It is a truth, this song was a truth. The bridge was created to be emotional, like a cry for help, but again, the transitions for it might help it sit better.
Thanks again!
Tammy

Well, at the moment, on "heart" you are playing a G minor chord. I'm just suggesting you play a Bb major chord there instead and also sing a D note. I think it would end the chorus with more definition. Up would probably suit your range better. Hope that makes sense. :-)

Hi Tammy,
Really sweet song, sad yes, but I felt mentally soothed as Calvin had also mentioned. I think think it just reminds me of that wonderful period when the ladies really broke through with their music in the early-mid 70's. One of your best IMO!

You really have a firm grasp of your vocals. Sounds sweeter with every new song.
Brings to mind one of my favorite artists... Natalie Merchant and one of my favorite albums... "Tigerlily"
You are killing it. Keep up the awesome work.

Tams,
Lovely tune from start to finish--and those vocals . . . my, my, just beautiful. For what it's worth, the repetition of "words" is, IMHO, the way to go--it works perfectly for me. I can't see extending it vocally; the repetition adds emphasis and accentuated meaning. Pretty, pretty, pretty song! :-) Loved it.
Best regards,
Deej

Great Vocal and Acoustic Guitar The Lyric left me wanting to know more.... who was saying all these mean things to you and why......... and instead of taking that abuse throw some words back.......... unless you did something to make them that angry at you............. and if you did tell me what you did maybe in the bridge in the bridge Anthony

Exquisite. Loved it. As a suggestion you might put the emphasis on "your" in the chorus as in "Words can break your heart"
