Music and Lyrics by Jane Karwoski 2019 Vocals by Jane Karwoski and Mike Zaneski Production: Mike Zaneski
This is my first song taken to production with Mike Z. I am very happy the way it turned it. Have a listen if you'd like to.
Chasing Gold
V1
Freedom Comes with a curious price We toil away We give up our lives
Jealous Anger For others who win We’re always striving But the odds are slim
Chorus
There’s more to life than Chasing Gold So tired of being bought and sold The same old grind is getting old There’s more to life than Chasing Gold
V2
Success We work all the time To get to the top We’re always behind
Security It’s never enough We save and save To have it taken away
Chorus
There’s more to life than Chasing Gold So tired of being bought and sold The same old grind is getting old There’s more to life than Chasing Gold
Bridge
We put in our time - we pay our dues Ready to live without feeling used But at the end of the show Where did the happiness go?
There’s more to life than Chasing Gold Tired of being bought and sold The same old grind is getting old There’s more to life than Chasing Gold
Lyrics: Jane Karwoski 2019

Jane, great, great song. Very nice. I would pitch this as a cue for movies or tv. My only suggestion would be to say just what more there is in the bridge rather than use the space to continue complaining (for want of a better word) like the vss do. Each section of a lyric has a function almost like a living thing. What you often see on the internet is a blurring or fading of those functions. The lines wouldn't need to be complicated, just a simple, relatable couplet. It's very good. I can see why you're happy with it.

Thank you Martin.
Thank you couchgrouch. The verse is probably not even a bridge - just another verse.
Thank you both for listening.

Very good song. Nice melody. Well written. Good structure.
In the chorus, I especially like the way you sing the last line. You might use the same pattern for the first 3 lines that are played fast...
Have fun!

The recording came out really good and you did a good job on the VOX. Maybe one day I’ll learn how to get a tune under 3 minutes. Heck, maybe even 4 minutes....
I like the story of it. Yes we just Chase Gold and most of our finances go toward housing. I’m a gonna stop there, cause then I’ll be complaining too.
There is more to life.....

Hi Steve,
Thanks for the listen. Yes, if we spend too much time complaining will miss out on the good things in life!

Martin, Rob, Roy, Guy, and Steve.. Thanks for listening and I'm very happy you enjoyed it The production choices flowed like magic, for me, as I really connected strongly to her words and how she delivered them. I hear so many of my music heroes in Jane's work, and yet she feels completely original to me. That's exciting! I'm very happy and grateful to be a part of that.. Thanks, Jane, for the opportunity(s).. Mike

Nice song, Jane! I love the feel—it's like Sade verses with a Joni Mitchell chorus—a great retro atmosphere that really works. And the message is delivered simply. cleverly and poignantly. Best of all, the message matters—not just another expression of personal feelings, but a very universal message delivered personally. That's what we strive for! Man, this Zaneski guy gets around! Beautiful clear production as always...playing his Soundtoys like a BOSS. Really great songwriting, Jane.

Thanks John!
I've got to check Joni Mitchell out. Would you believe I don't own any of her records but I do like her. Oh, where have I been!

Wow ... I really love the vocal. Great lyric and fantastic production. So much ear candy in the production ... reverb, delays. But it is Jane's vocal that really brings the song home. I loved it.

Jane,
First off, I’ve admired your vocals on your postings so far, though those productions never quite showcased them in the way I think they deserve. Well, on this your vocal just shines . . . the way it should. And the write is terrific . . . love the chorus on this one. And Mike does his usual great job as producer stringing everything together. Just a well done tune. Feel good about this one—it’s special . . . and I think just the start. I'll look forward to hearing more.
My kindest regards,
Deej

Thank you so much GocartMoz and Deej,
Wow. I really appreciate all the wonderful comments. I owe it all to Mike for producing my music they way it should be and to you all here at JPfolks for giving me the encouragement to continue writing.

Thanks Mark, John, and Dave's B & L.. I hear bits of Peter Gabriel, Kate Bush, Tori Amos, and more rockin' women like Joan Osborne and the Wilson sisters (Heart).. But ultimately, for me, her writer's voice --i e her style and "the things she chooses to say" seems completely her own. Thanks for the listening and I'm very happy knowing you enjoyed it. Mike

Yep, fantastic lyrics/vox/production, great job! I have to agree with Guy though.... I would like to hear Jane reach a little higher for "there’s more to life" and sing the chorus at half speed. Still a home run though

Wow. This was good. I find the lyric and structure to this pretty interesting. I recently wrote a lyric where I deliberately left out some rhymes (there could have been some obvious ones). The first thing my partner says is "that doesn't rhyme." I'm kind of a slave to form/rhymes, etc. and I probably would have tried to build more support lyric wise for the "gold" metaphor. But I'm glad you did not do this. I think that makes it fresh and the music really wraps around to support it. Also, I love your voice.
