Yeah it's a cover...but I could use some feedback on the production and mix. Is it too trebly, or anything else? Getting ready to submit this one to a library so I'd like to get the mix right. Thanks! https://www.soundclick.com/html5/v4/player.cfm?songID=13910223

Mark,
Funny, I’m stumbling across a number of Space Oddity covers lately as I cruise the net—shows greatness never dies. Among my favorite Bowie songs, definitely in the top 5. Your version is beautifully produced and put together—killer vocals and harmonies.
If you are looking for an honest (and as always, subjective) opinion, I have two thoughts. But they come with the huge caveat that I’m not the best judge of covers of songs I’m fond of—that is, I’m tend to compare them to the original as I’m listening, which isn’t fair, as that’s not the point of a cover. That said, here’s what strikes me:
1. The rhythm guitar seems a bit tinny and “reverby” to my ear—it might be the sound you’re shooting for, and if so, ignore my opinion.
2. The tempo seems a little too quick for me . . . that is, the song moves a bit too fast, and, for me, it loses some of the emotion and gravity (no pun intended) along the way.
But it’s a wonderfully executed cover, Mark—not many could hope to do nearly as an accomplished a version. So please take those thoughts with my admiration in mind and a huge grain of salt.
My humble regards,
Deej

Hey Mark,
I listed on my headphones and on my phone. The only thing I wondered about is the high harmony vocal which sounds like it is panned to the left (on lines "from here am I sitting in my tin can"). On my phone, that vocal sounds a bit louder or more forward in the mix almost than the lead. Also, on my phone the music sounds a bit buried behind the vox in some places. In contrast, on my headphones, the vocals sound pretty balanced. The speakers on my phone are not the greatest but I am mentioning this because a lot of people listen on their devices these days.
Overall, I thought it was a very solid cover though. Good work!

Excellent work man!
I think the object of doing a cover for libraries and/or films is to do it slightly different, I think covers can be completely rearranged in some cases too.
So comparing it to the original doesn't really help. It's a different take on the mix cause its a different track
If I could lose any part of it, it would be the English accent on "capsill", and possibly the louder harmonies. Im not sure if the harmonies are louder than the lead on the original.
But I think it sounds great either way.

I enjoyed listening to it.
I do hear a bit of a hiss that you must have been referring to. . I'm sure that you applied a limiter to that. I'm not sure that I would worry about it. It sounds good overall.

Sounds to me like the overall mix is battling with that really bright acoustic guitar. Nothing a little tweaking won’t fix... I sometimes find that converting to MP3 really brightens the mix like that. Great Job!

Thanks everyone! I was off camping. I've listened carefully to all your suggestions and have been remixing. Will repost by tomorrow, and I agree with pretty much all the crits. Much appreciated!
