https://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=13923040Raise a Glass (V) Don’t want no flowers on my grave; my life down on paper—the words will only fade. Why not say those things to me when I’m still alive? We’ve shared so many things, pal, now don’t be shy. (C) Let’s raise a glass to us today . . . two old friends who go back a long way. With a bond sealed with memories, old friend, you mean a lot to me— Who knows who will go and who will stay? Let’s find a place to pass some time away, and raise a glass to both of us today. (V) Poor preacher one day has to eulogize me though I’ve been a stranger in his church most of my life; see, when my time comes to go . . . just say my friend wasn't perfect—he told me so. (C) Let’s raise a glass to us today . . . two old friends who go back a long way. With a bond sealed with memories, old friend, you mean a lot to me— Who knows who will go and who will stay? Let’s find some place and drink the night away, and raise a glass to both of us today. (B) I don’t want you going all down hill. Go find yourself a new best friend. But I’ll tell you straight right now it will never the same somehow. Damn, my eyes are watering again. (C) Let’s raise a glass to us today . . . two old friends who go back a long way. With a bond sealed with memories, old friend, you mean a lot to me— Who knows who will go and who will stay? Let’s find a place and laugh the time away, and raise a glass to both of us today. Very nice, John. One of my favorites from you. DJ's voice really suits this perfectly and he does a great production job, as always. I wrote a song along similar lines a while ago, but I think this is better

John,
I think this is one of your finest lyrics. So relatable and so true. Especially verse 2. I have been to many more funerals than I care to and I always have mixed feelings when I see the preacher talking about the person who died. I always think to myself how hard that would be, in that he probably didn't know the person at all or hardly did. Your song also brought me back to my father's funeral and made me think about all the things I wish I told him when he was alive.
DeeJay brought a very fine lyric to life. Congrats to both of you.
Dave

Hi guys..
Beautiful!!
John, I agree, this lyric is very touching.
Deej, another heartfelt vocal. Beautiful production.
You might benefit from singing with two mics in songs where you break into falsetto and sing lots of low notes with less volume. With those you could be much closer mic'd so the intimacy is not lost, there.

Thanks to all above for the kind words and feedback. Sometimes Travis's lyrics make pulling the music together easy . . . and this one was a perfect example.
Mike, really good suggestion . . . now just have to pick up another mic. I've had my eyes on one for a while and may have to take the plunge . . . the one I'm working with now is somewhat on the low end (i.e., "cheap;"), purchased when I first decided to start recording with modest, if any, expectations. I'll run with your suggestion if I have two in my inventory.
Regards all,
Deej

This is a pretty special co-write to my way of listening... and yes, even thinking! Life is short, friends are few and far between (acquaintances are plenty) and the lyric strikes me as one of the best I've read. Couple that with Deej's music and unique vocal... this one is special. I feel so lucky to be alive, able to enjoy and create songs... and I don't think I'll ever be able to "top" this one. Great work, guys. Bravo and curtain calls.
----Your pal, Dave Rice
