Honest Politician
Well here’s my number Call anytime I’ll sympathise While you whinge and whine, I’ll fight your case Have no fear And if we cross paths You can buy me a beer.
chorus I’m an honest politician A dying breed Never touched cocaine Only once smoked weed, Yes I’m overweight And outtta condition But vote for me I’m an honest politician
Well I’ll wear a suit And shiny shoes Wont pick my nose When I’m on Fox news, I’ll cut taxes Curb inflation It’s cash or pay pal For your kind donation
chorus Im an honest politician Not many left Never been jailed For fraud or theft, I deal in facts Not superstition Have faith in me I’m an honest politician
I’ll get a hair cut And trim my beard Fix my front teeth So I don't look weird, Build new schools Cut down crime A plane and limo Will suit me just fine.
chorus I’m an honest politician Last of the bunch I skip breakfast But never miss lunch, Climate change Is my new religion Worship me I’m an honest politician

I like it, John. It flows well and creates a nice visual picture of the guy you are lampooning. Some lines that made me chuckle.
Not so sure about the very last lines. Everyone can sympathize and agree with your depiction of a dishonest politician, but most people would associate belief in climate change as an incongruous piece of honesty that it would be a surprise to hear from this guy. Of course, a lot of other people wouldn't, but it seems unnecessary to alienate, or, at the very least, puzzle those who do. If I were you, I'd keep it focused on something we can all agree on and laugh at - the "honest" politician himself.
I hope someone puts music to this. The lyric has a musical feel to it as you read it.

Ummmm..... hold on a sec please. What do you call belief and absolute devotion to something despite the lack of physical evidence? That last line is what pushes this over the top, it has to stay!

John, it's your song and of course it should communicate whatever you want it to communicate. With or without those lines, I like it. Tony, I know better than to try to convince a climate change denier LOL. I'd better write a song about it instead. That has the added advantage of avoiding you and me hijacking John's thread to get into an argument

A vanishing breed consumed by greed and power...few there be that find the honest path to leadership. Our government, all government are inundated with selfish bastards who use and abuse the system for their own gain or for others who pay them to make gains that will make them richer. I can't wait to hear this one to music, but I have no idea how you will appraoch the music. Thanks for sharing.

I don’t understand why people get so uptight about "hijacking threads" and "just limit your comments to the quality of the song"....... I can’t write a song unless I feel like I have something to say, THAT'S THE MOST IMPORTANT PART!!

Same here. I like the song despite the climate lines. ( of course I might have loved it with different lines)
I like how the song shows the evolution of the politician toward even more corruption.
Nice work.

That has the added advantage of avoiding you and me hijacking John's thread to get into an argument OK Gavin/Matt.... Here’s a stupid question for you. If it's greedy, filthy, profit driven government and industry that's causing the problem.... then why would you give that same government the power and authority to tax you, regulate you, and hold you accountable for THEIR problem?!? Let’s get something straight, "climate denier" is just the current political catch phrase for the easily led. No-one is denying that there’s a problem. The problem is simply being blown out of proportion and dramatized by a faction of government that only wants more authority, power, and control over your wallet. It's like those "sick puppy" commercials on late night TV, I can’t believe ya'll are falling for it.... Since when has throwing more money at the government ever fixed anything?

I'm not getting into this with you on John's thread, unless he wants to join in.
