Just pulled this out of the heap. Not sure the genesis of it. I used to know the melody and music, but it's been a while...

Her Gettysburg Address

Haulin ass from Pittsburgh in a stormy night scene
hydroplaning cargo out on highway 15
"Gimme Three Steps" was playin on the radio
I never saw her comin but I saw them tires blow

Well, I had dreams of playin hero
to that damsel in distress
voice on the short wave said she had a Gettysburg address

Followed EMS to Mercy, but they wouldn't let me through
she would have emergency surgery, there was nothin I could do

Yeah, I had dreams of playin hero
to that damsel in distress
wondered if I'd see her again at her Gettysburg address

Ya see, I grew up in Gettysburg
it was quite the coincidence
population of 7,000
The Gods were makin sense

Doc said...she's gonna make it! just needs some time to rest
got a hair cut and a shave wanted to look my best
Finally got to see her...fell in love right from there
We married shortly after in the chapel at Saint Clair's

And my dreams of playin hero
I never did confess
we started up a family
at a Gettysburg address

I really like this. The misspelling of Gettysburg doesn't change that smile

Some folks might say it would have been more poignant if she hadn't made it, but I enjoyed the fact that she did.

Thanks Gavin. Good catch on the spelling, not sure why I thought there was an H at the end. Probably a case of not seeing the word in print since 7th grade history class. Must fix.

LOL. Having lived in Edinburgh in Scotland for years and occasionally had to wince when Americans pronounced it Edin-burg, I should maybe just get my own back by pronouncing the place Gettys-burruh. It has a nice ring to it.

I like it a lot. I think the play on Gettysburg address is great. the lyrics have a good flow that seems like it would be very singable.

Love it. (You're probably one of those people from Pittsburgh who believe every city ending in "burg" has the "h") Go Pens.

Hey Moose thanks. I think i had the title and I had to figure out what it would be about. I did have music at one time, it's probably rough taked on an older hardrive, along with hundreds of other stuff i never used.

Thanks Summeoyo. Im not actually from PA at all, Born in the Bronx, lived in Jersey my whole life. When I write stuff I like to make my geography correct. I do have a buddy who lives in Scranton area, we go up to see him once in a while. But I always feel like im cheating if I dont have the Geo right. Spelling, well, I skipped that class!

Very nice. I agree with Moosesong. Nice flow and easy to put music to. Well written.

Hi F,
I really like this but I would change shortwave to CB, easier to sing, and everyone I knew used CB radios to talk on the road. Also emergency is a mouthful to get in and She was in the OR might work. As always, KOS

Thanks, it must be the title that keeps bumping this up...im actually trying to forget it lol.

If I were to record it i could fix any meter problems up myself, but I dont think this will make my next album....

May the married couple live to see the age of four score and seven years. That is close to being the average lifespan today.
