Your Yanks are probably favorites to win it all, but my Dodgers would've given you a run. Been a fan going back to Don Sutton's control pitching/late Sixties..

I became more a basketball fan, Sacramento Kings fan in the late 90's and early Ought years, until it came to light that refs fixed game 6 of the 2002 regional finals so the Lakers would win.

Now I am mostly oblivious to sports (where's the time?), except for the post season Dodgers, whom I think I jinxed by announcing "there's no way they can lose now" when we had a two run lead and Kershaw came in from the bullpen..

We might have crossed paths at Meadowlands. I lived in Jersey City in '83 (sublet from seasonal circus performers, haha) and NYC in 84-85 (worked at Tower Records in Lower Manhattan) and would take the bus out there for the Harness meets all the time. I'm not sure you could even bet other tracks at that point, but remember the fun of picking harness horses. Much more consistent..

I know...LOL...this thread was supposed to get no responses, to make a point, but hell..that's no fun.. wink

I was quite surprised The Dodgers didnt make it. Getting a little sick of the would be managers questioning Dave Roberts. Regardless of Kershaws troubles in the playoffs, nobody can convince me that using one of baseballs all time great pitchers is a bad move...it just didnt work out. That happens. Woulda been a classic series Yankees/Dodgers, the press woulda ate it up.

Back in 83 I hadnt hit puberty yet, just a week ago I finally reach it. Im stubborn.... LOL

I went to tower records many times, cross the tunnel. And I used to work in Jersey City.

Meadowlands now has legalized betting, which is like duh....everybodys been doing it all along anyway. Might as well regulate it.

I followed Hockey avidly when I was a young kid. I was a big fan of The Islanders when they had that great line of Trottier, Bossy, Giles, Potvin and Pearson. All hall of famers.

In later years, I had to consolidate my time more. All the seasons conflict so Im baseball and football. Which still a huge interest in the NCAA basketball Tourny.

Well I am in Toronto, center of the hockey universe...so yeah, hockey is a huge sport here...but then we also have the NBA champion Raptors, our TFC is in the MLS playoffs, and our Wolfpack (well mostly foreigners playing rugby) just got promoted to the top world league...

then again our CFL Toronto Argonauts (Cdn football...like US football only different wink ) really suck big time and our Blue Jays are in contant rebuild mode

I'm a Leaf fan, not a lot to cheer about the past 50 years, but things are looking up (I hope). I followed the Blue Jays when they were on top back when they won back to back championships, and I followed the Raptors last year. I played hockey when I was much younger, very little baseball, some soccer but never football.

Too much pitching. We didnt have the starters to match up. Astros probably have the most talent in baseball. I'm just very enthisastic about our young yankee team. Lots to be optimistic about.

I read that we have Altuve until at least 2024. he seems to be the core that the team is built around.

And, ball recognition/eyesight, wrist strength, like Karate, if you can push all your body power into your fist, you can knock out a giant. Somebody like the 6"7 Aaron Judge does it with brute strength. He can not even hit the ball squarely and it can still go 400 feet.

If you have good instinct and know a fast ball is coming, alot of it is experienced guessing, but you can jump on it sooner so that you get the bat around, and then if you are fooled by a changeup, good hand/eye coordination can still allow you to make contact. He's one of the best contact hitters in baseball. Aside from yesterday when Strasburg owned him on a nasty breaking ball with 2nd and 3rd one out.

The Nats actually now have the advantage, they have Sherzer to start tonight

Its been a great series with lots of ups and down. The Nats have the pitching edge, They have Sherzer, Stros gotta go with Greinke, and probably their entire bullpen will be in at some point if needed.

I dont think Sherzer will shut them down like Strasburg did, and he needed a cortisone shot in his neck just to be able to pitch tonight. It's the little mistakes that make a difference, a walk, an error, the dreaded hanging breaking ball!

Home field is much more important in football, especially college football, where they hold 100,000 people. But it's still nice to know you are at home for game 7, possible psychological edge,

Should be fun to watch.

In the world series of the MLB everyone has an eye and instincts.

But Altuve is lacking size and raw power so he gets it done with bat speed, technique and kinetics. They all have good technique and kinetics. Altuve comes down to massive reflexes , quickness and speed.

That is the indespensible element behind the big shots.
And prolly compressing the strike zone.

Both at bat and running down grounders.

What I said was Altuve hits for power, homeruns, amd amazing how he does it a 5"6, most 5"6 players dont even make the pros.

Ted Williams, probably the greatest hitter of all time was said to be able to see the seams on the ball as the pitch was delivered
. So he could tell by the spin of the ball what pitch was coming and could make the decision to swing all in a split second. 99.99 of major leaguers cant.

Babe Ruth reportedly had 20/5 vision, which is freakish.

Not all hitters have good instincts, there are guys in MLB who bat .230, but when they guess right can hit it 600 feet.

great contact hitters have a better feel and know how pitchers think. They have to or else theyd be hitting .230

“The scientific ivory hunters of Columbia University discovered that the secret of Babe Ruth’s batting, reduced to non-scientific terms, is that his eyes and ears function more rapidly than those of other players; that his brain records sensations more quickly and transmits its orders to the muscles much faster than does that of the average man. The tests proved that the coordination of eye, brain, nerve system, and muscle is practically perfect, and that the reason he did not acquire his great batting power before the sudden burst at the beginning of the baseball season of 1920, was because, prior to that time, pitching and studying batters disturbed his almost perfect coordination.”
