There's lots of new folks out there who don't know me or my music, so here's the one that started it all. It won a contest in Nashville with 3000+ entries, got me a free demo, and encouraged me to keep writing. I know it's not perfect, but then neither am I. Hope it tickles your fancy. Lyrics on the site just push play. decided to throw the lyric on here too. https://www.soundclick.com/music/songInfo.cfm?songID=4692317 Lyrics Santa’s Spies I really have it figured out How Santa gets the word He hears it from the animals Each cat and dog and bird From nest to den it’s passed along By flock and then by pack Till Santa writes it in a note And stores it in his sack Those innocent canaries Who fill our house with song Are part of the conspiracy And pass wishes along That warm and fuzzy kitten With every little cry He isn’t callin’ mama He’s really Santa’s spy It ain’t just in the city The farmers have it too--------------- {Chorus They hear it every day and night Each neigh each baa and moo So don’t forget when shoppin’ To go in that pet store And pick up lots of presents To please them to the core {Instrumental Break Trudy wants the telescope She saw down at the mall Billy wants that blue bike They’re in the hoot owls call Cody has been extra good And so has Linda Lou The puppies’ tails thump out in code You think they’ll tell on you I’m starin’ at my kitty cat And lookin’ for a sign To see if she’ll tell Santa Just what I have in mind I try to keep her happy Her food and water fill I hope her purr will carry Through dale and over hill It ain’t just in the city The farmers have it too----------------- {Chorus They hear it every day and night Each neigh each baa and moo So don’t forget when shoppin’ To go in that pet store And pick up lots of presents To please them to the core So lets thank all our little friends That carry out with this task For helpin’ with our Christmas Is quite a lot to ask Yes helpin’ out old Santa Is quite a lot to ask Helpin’ out old Santa Is quite a lot to ask Copyright 2003 John W. Hi Japov, Thanks for the listen, and the nice comments. That was the idea, just a fun Christmas song. They actually liked both of the songs I entered so they gave me 2 free demos.

Thanks John, I have had some success with this and a couple of others but not so much financially. If I had to do things over I would still write, and pay to produce the demos, even if they never make me another dime. There is just something about putting words together then hearing them to music that brings a smile to my life.

Morning, John:
Enjoyed this one and your demo artist did a great job for you... and a Christmas/Santa song to a "country vibe" is a sure formula for success. Your lyric is well thought out, clever and tells the story so well. I hope you found a way to "pitch" this one back in July to allow the process to work through the many song submissions in this unique genre. Noting that you wrote it quite some time ago, I imagine you already know the process... and have participated many times.
Best of luck with your music. I noticed you were looking for demo artist Heather (Cowles) Morris and wonder if Laura Kelsey might be a good candidate for some of your songs needing great female vocalists? She is a member here from Western Canada.
Regards out there in the western Pacific.
----Dave

Hi Dave, Thanks for the listen, glad you liked this one. I did the rounds in music city for about 3 1/2 months when I lived there, and was making some progress with a couple of publishers, then my mom was getting close to passing back in NJ and I went back to spend what time I could with her. I never made it back but I tried pitching from NJ and it was like pitching from the outfield. I never got close to the plate. Western Canada is a hotbed of country music, the Calgary Stampede and such. Heather is a very known quantity to me, she did a couple of excellent demos for me. I am not close to doing anything yet but I wanted to touch base with her because I do have a couple of lyrics she would sound great on. I will try searching for Laura and see. Thanks again.

Hi John An old time country song - perfect for the Christmas season. It's a bit generic melody-wise - but most old school stuff needs to be IMHO. Merry xmas from Canucksville Paul

Hi Paul, Thanks for the visit and the comments. Glad you liked it. The melody I had nothing to do with. I just won the contest and they did the rest. And you're right, it is a bit generic but it was my first song ever put to music so what did I know. I hope I've gotten a bit better with time. I loved yours.
