Mexico
by David Pulizzi

íNeath a pale blue sky
I left my home
Heading south
Down to Mexico

Where waters cool
Through canyons run
And no one knows
The things Iíve done

Now we pass towns
Of dust and bone
On the train that rolls
Down to Mexico

Well the world has passed me by
Thatís the way it goes
Now Iím longing for the hand
Of God to lead me home

Well, some die young
Some die old
Some disappear
Down in Mexico

Where in the end
The good book say
The pain you feel
Shall pass away

And in its stead
So Iíve been told
Will come high times
Down in Mexico

Dave,

This is fabulous. I'm kind of getting a vibe where Santana collaborated with the Eagles here--a great combination! Great melody, lyrics, & performance as well! I do think the organ on the chorus could be lowered a couple of db--and maybe lead guitar which is playing the same notes with your vocals which "competes" a bit there at the chorus area with the lead vox. (a small tweak and JMO). Absolutely love your vocal delivery BTW, and love the music arrangement.

David,

Very smooth and inviting melody and production; terrific vocal. Great choices on that chorusóthe harmonies and backing are very sweet. Another great tune from you! Good stuff.

Deej

Oh no... not another David! LOL!

I enjoyed everything you did with this song. Here's wishing you success with whatever you want to do with it. I also agree with ol' Steady-Eddie regarding your vocal quality.

Thanks for sharing. You are a great addition to the JPF crowd.

Nice one David - I like the almost calypso rhythm and the melody line is very captivating.
I'm not too sure about the weird note at 1:31 and later on but I guess it's an artistic choice right?
Love the vocals and the organ.

Eddie, Deej, Vic, JAPOV, Dave the Elder (I like that), Lane and Paul,

Thank you all for listening. And for the thoughts and insights. I'm amused by the Santana references. I was just watching their performance at Woodstock on YouTube the other day. Great stuff. For this song, I wanted to write about a middle-aged man who feels lost in the modern world and alienated from all the usual things that make most other people feel safe, secure and reasonably content. I wanted to write about his flight to Mexico, where, as an unknown stranger, he hopes to put his past behind him and lead a tolerable existence. And I wanted to suggest the futility of that venture. Again, thanks to all for listening. It's much appreciated on my end. ... David

Great song and production. I enjoyed it. Santana meets the Eagles, as Steady Eddie says.

I didn't completely understand one aspect of the lyric. It seems that God is telling him to go to Mexico through the "good book." I must have missed that Bible verse smile.

Gavin,

Why assume the "good book" is the Bible? Are there no other good books?

Anyhow, there's obviously no Bible verse that overtly suggests that someone's psychic pain might be relieved via an excursion to Mexico. But when one carefully reads between the lines of the New Testament, Jesus can clearly be heard to say, "My children, when life gets too heavy, flee to Mexico, where all will be well, as it is in Heaven."

Amen.

Well, I guess it was the earlier reference to God and the fact that I have heard "The Good Book" used as another way of saying the Bible.

I have heard far less sensible interpretations of the Bible than that one, David smile

I was just kidding with you, Gavin. Certainly I meant the Bible, but I realized, of course, there was nothing in it about a sojourn to Mexico. That said, I can't be held responsible for how the song's narrator interpreted what's written in the Bible. (Well, I can be, but I'd rather not be.) In any case, like you, I've seen far less sensible interpretations.

Have a great day. ... David

Hey Dave, I love the stellar music and the way you phrase your vocals, slow and easy like a siesta to music. I got into the story and i could smell the sage and feel the hot desert air on my skin. You have a unique style as well. We should collaborate on a song sometime. ~~Matt

Matt ... thanks for the good words. A collaboration? Hmm. I've never tried writing with someone else. Could be fun and fruitful, I suppose. For now, let's keep in mind.

Maccharles ... a Calexico reference. Very nice. I love that band's sound. Thanks for listening ...

Niteshift ... I hope you enjoyed floating through scenic Mexico. Considering the state of the weather in central Pennsylvania these days, I wouldn't mind a nice little float through Mexico myself right about now. Happy Tuesday. And thanks for listening.

David
