Ok, all . . . I'm feeling like I'm monopolizing the board, but truly I don't mean to. I think a combination of the forum being slow and a few tunes coming together. Nice to see Ant post a new tune though . . . if you haven't listened to that, check it out. Great tune!

I'm mainly posting this just to keep things active on the Board. It's nothing elaborate, just an acoustic g/v take on a lyric I posted in the L3 forum some time back that I haven't had much time to do anything with . . . and may not for a while as I have a few other items in the queue. Apologies to those who commented on the lyric with some good suggestions--I haven't modified them yet from the initial post. But while we are all hunkered down, I figure some new music, however rough, might be a helpful diversion. And so I post it in that spirit.

Hope it's somewhat enjoyable in its current form.

Stay well out there, JPFrs.

My best to you all,

Here's the song:

New Kind of Lover

Here are the lyrics:

She turns off the lightó
a prelude to a dream
of someone more right
and something less clean.

Iím thinking itís time
I should try for a new kind of loveró
someone to fill and thrill
my empty heart.

Just passing the time;
and itís all so routine.
We say all the right lines,
but itís not what we mean.

Iím thinking itís time
I should find a new kind of loveró
someone to ease and please
my weary mind.

Weíve been playing the same
old game here forever;
ignoring the pain and
forsaking the pleasure,
when all that remains
is a vow we wonít severó
hey, you gotta know what itís like;
Iím betting youíve gotta know whatís itís like
to want to discover
a new kind of lover.

Iím closing my eyes
to a love I once knew.
And Iím wondering inside,
are yours closing too?

Iím thinking itís time
I should try for a new kind of loveró
someone to fill and thrill
my empty heart.

Weíve been playing the same
old game here forever;
trying to sustain
what we ought to surrender.
Weíre one and the same,
both fools and pretendersó
hey, you gotta know what itís like;
Iím betting youíve gotta know whatís itís like
to want to uncover
a new kind of lover.

Nice! The rough recording reminds me a bit of "Wake Me Up When September Ends". Might be a good sonic reference.

I was feeling like the lines "to want to discover" and "to want to uncover" slowed down the payoff a bit. One idea (take or leave) is to cut them and it have it be more like "I'm bettiing you know what it's like (break) to want a new kind of lover".

Hey DeeJay:

Sounding Good. Nice write. Sounds great even in this raw form. If you do bring it to a bigger production, I am hearing a piano holding down the basic rhythm track. Donít know why but that is just what came to me.

Best of lucks with it and thx for sharing

Great tune! Great flowing melody. Really nice lyrics, especially opening two lines--they grab you. I do think you could begin to fade song out a bit sooner starting at the small break at around 3:28.

I'm digging the guitar rhythm, but think your guitar rhythm might be more appreciated if you slowed down the tempo about 3 or 4 bpm? It can really make a difference and feel less hurried and better pull in the listener--small tweak. Experiment, I know you don't want to add time to a song, but if you only then slow your tempo down at song's end and end the song a bit sooner you shouldn't add any more time. Great start here!

Just a couple of ideas--use or lose.

Carrol, ant, Dave and Eddie:

Thanks for the listen and feedback. I posted this one largely because the board seemed so slow--it's good to see it picking up again. But this one really wasn't ready for primetime. Your feedback though definitely helps ion preparing to do something more with it.

Eddie: I always tend to play to fast when I play "live". And I tend to pick up steam as I go along, lol! You are totally on point about keeping it a bit slower. I'm not at all worried about the length of the tune. It should be as long as it needs to be and no more.

My best to you all,
