I got the vibe to write about this strange time in our lives, and I wanted to do something postive and say thanks to the people at the front line.so I spent a couple of hours scribbling.
We Will Win.
Invisible foe Striking swiftly Bringing death And misery, Leaving loved ones Broken inside The day will come When we turn the tide.
chorus Corona virus You may deplete us But we won’t give in, Corona virus You won't defeat us We will win.
In silent battles On sea and land With brave hearts Together we stand, From the cruel grasp Of fear and pain Our empty streets Will bustle again.
chorus Corona virus You may deplete us But we won’t give in, Corona virus You won't defeat us We will win.
bridge Our warriors in gown and mask Their courage knows no end However mighty the task No enemy will transcend.
chorus Corona virus You may deplete us But we won’t give in, Corona virus You won't defeat us We will win.
We will win.

First of all, I think its a great theme. Thank you. We need songs like this to keep spirits up. l myself have been rather negative in several posts, but my intent was to make sure people took this pandemic and social distancing seriously.
I did have a couple of suggestions, to take or leave.
silent stalker Stealing breath Striking swiftly Bringing death
Warriors armored in gown and mask

Thanks Moose, I like your suggestions but I'm not big on (stalker), but if any musician picks up on the lyric I'll let them decide, yes there is plenty negativity flying around right now, coupled with the uncertainty of how it will all pan out, I've every confidence this disease will be overcome. all the best, john.

I like the positive tone. I don't think the word "transcend" is a good choice. It's usually used transitively, although I suppose it can be used with an implied object. In that case, what is it transcending? Also, it seems like a very positive word to use for something like this. There's a danger that the listener might think you were just looking for a word to rhyme with "end."

Thanks for stopping by Gavin, while I agree that (transcend) can have many meanings, I think it works well here as in (overcome) or (rise above) do you really think that the listeners of a song analyse a lyric in that context, I've listened to thousands of songs over fifty years and never once thought, oh that word is just there to rhyme, but maybe I'm wrong,
all the best,john.

I don't think you need to consciously analyze a lyric for a word to seem out of place. It just jumps out at you. To me, that's what "transcend" does here. And don't underestimate the listener. He/she does pay attention.
I have often thought that a word was chosen just to rhyme, but in the case of successful songs this is usually in certain pop genres that are all about the melody or production and the lyrics don't really matter and are almost an afterthought. If I hear it in a song where the lyric is actually an important part of the song, then it jars.
All this is just my opinion, offered in an attempt to be helpful. I know I can overthink things sometimes.

No prob Gavin, I respect yours and everyones comments, even though at times I disagree, as for underestimating the listener I think of that old saying you can please some of the people, etc. etc all the best, john
