You Shine

When I look at the stars
All I ever see
Is how much brighter you are
Than they can ever be
You must have a sun
Bundled up inside
You hardly ever show it
Why do you try to hide

You shine-----------------------} Chorus
Brighter than you know
You shine
Such a beautiful glow
And I will tell the whole world
You’re mine
Because my darling
You---- shine

Why do you ever want
To hide your glow
From everyone that you meet
Now I just don't know
You chose to share it
With only me
Thank you my darling
For an eternity

You shine-----------------------} Chorus
Brighter than you know
You shine
Such a beautiful glow
And I will tell the whole world
You’re mine
Because my darling
You---- shine

Instrumental Break

Thank you my darling
For an eternity

You shine-----------------------} Chorus
Brighter than you know
You shine
Such a beautiful glow
And I will tell the whole world
You’re mine
Because my darling
You---- shine

My darling
You---- shine

Hi John and Simon:

Very today sounding song. Nice message and melody with a snappy beat. Enjoyed this very much. The production and vocal were spot on. Wishing you tons of success with "You Shine!" Thanks for sharing.

Send more soon... ----Dave

Hi Dave,
Thanks for the listen and the great comments. Simon plans on having a pro sing it. I told him he did a great job, on everything. It came out just the way I was hearing it in my head.

John,

This is stellar . . . . very catchy, nicely layered background vocals. Pretty on the ears. A pro production could take it up a notch, but, boy, it's really good as is. Pursue this . . . it could be a hit. Best of luck with it.

All the best,

Deej

Hey John,

Just saw your message on the other Forum this morning & now I hear this here...this is really awesome...

The VOX are fine, you don't need a different vocalist at all IMO, In fact the timbre of Simons vocals makes the vibe....Just tighten up the track a smidge...Maybe the keys up a little bit & a little something more where there is only instrumentation...It's all right here, just tweak it a bit

You got the right co-write on this one...

Thanks so much. Simon likes to get them just right and he really gave my lyric wings. I do acapella vocals to see if the lyric sings, and this feels like the one I did for this song.

Hi Steve,
Thanks for the listen, and the compliments. Like I said to you, I write in many different genres. Like you, I think his voice really fits the feel of this song but it is his choice. I write the lyric, he does the rest.

This is remarkable. Perhaps the best in a very long time on here. My kind of music for late night listening.
Excellent

The lyrics and melody work fine together.
Production wise, for me the heavy beat is slightly overpowering and lacking variety. I was waiting for some relief midway.
The instruments (keyboard) could also come up in the mix. Of course this is just my opinion but it's how I hear it.
Good start.

I think whoever produced did a real good job of making the vocals sound like sunshine coming through the clouds. I think The Beatles did the same kind of thing on Here comes the sun.

If you were to revisit this and do it over, you might want to change some of the melody, it's really nice but that sloop you shiiiiiiiiiiiun, sounds dissonant and not on par with the rest of it.

Also possibly putting in some lines as to why they shine. If somebody was trying to convince me I shine, first question id ask is how???I

That said there are plenty of hits that do the same thing.

This was really good, could be great!

Hi, Thanks for the listen and all the comments. I didn't think about the sunshine through the clouds, a very nice description.
I'm not sure about the dissonant, it's meant to be set apart for impact.
This is a very simple lyric, mostly praising, and thanking her for choosing me to see her shine.
I agree.

Beautiful song.
Sets a sweet groove and drills it.
recalls Earth Wind and Fire-ish era, yet sounds current.
Liked the lift towards the end.

I agree with Steve. The vocals are fine as is.

Whow this is so good. Simon Kaye is brilliant! Of course you lyric inspired the whole thing.
Very envious of this display of talent from both of you.

Hi Martin,
Thanks for the listen and the sweet words. I don't write a lot of soft rock/pop lyrics but once in a while my muse sends me one. I went without co-writers for a lot of years. It's great to find one who hears what the lyric means to me.

A very nice "feel-good" song. Has an Allen Parsons meets Burt Bacharach taste.
A very good recording. The percussions are a bit unmoving, however.
Love the writing.......kudos!

Hi Tom,

Thanks for the listen and the great compliments. And Simon doesn't comment, but he reads all of them, and his thanks are right there with mine.

Thank you so much Tom. I will happily take both those comparisons any day!

This is really a superbly arranged and produced song and definitely has that professional feel to it. The vocal and all the sort of ethereal effects were amazing and I love the way the chorus was arranged with the fading on the word "shine." You took an idea that many might think was cliche and made it into something special and unique. Very nicely done.

Hi Bobby,
Thanks so much for the listen and all the kind words. The majority of the credit for this goes to Simon Kay. I just wrote the lyric and he did all the heavy lifting, and the vocals. I was amazed too.

The sustained note delivering THE Hook, the title, distorts the word 'shine'. I'm not sure I would 'get' it if I hadn't read the title first. I was going to suggest the lead vocal simply deliver the word as it is spoken, for my mind's sake on the receiving end, one short syllable, while background vocals do the very nice sustained 'arc', which is very appealing to my ear. As the Song goes on I hear the opposite, the backgrounders singing 'You shine! You shine!', very clearly 'clipped' short, more like we would hear the word 'shine' spoken.
This Song strikes me as having potential for Synchronization Licensing. It is very laid back, which advertisers are looking for right now, to present their wares without being brash amid the depression, anger, fear of these 'pandemic' times, politics, social justice, life-threatening disease. This Song would suggest the seller's product makes the consumer 'shine', a positive vibe they're looking for. It's a lucrative market well worth exploring.
By the way, I see your co-writer spells his name with an 'e', 'Kaye', but on the link it is 'KAY'. I wonder if that was intended or a mistake.

There will always be another song to be written. Someone will write it. Why not you? www.garyeandrews.com

Hi Gary,
Thanks for the listen, visit, and the suggestions. We are working together to make demos, not to be radio ready, full blown songs. I will look into the sync idea, it sounds like another good avenue to explore. I screwed up the spelling. LOL!

John,

I loved this song! I think you have a really unique vibe going on--a bit of 80's feel, but current as well. I read several above comments and agree with most. I think it would be easy to have a couple of drum loops very similar, one without claps on verses and then use claps on choruses--which IMO would give you some change-up with the percussion and empower the great chorus melody you have going. One other area that IMO could be enhanced would be the transition at the key change in the latter part of the song--experiment here with maybe having maybe a half rest pause followed by maybe a drum flam launching that key change which again would empower that last chorus even more.

Wow, however, loved the falsetto vox!

This has an Alan Parsons Project kinda vibe for me. I'd rather listen to this than the latest Katy Perry song. Good write and performance.

Hi Eddie,
Nice to hear from you. Thanks for the listen, and the very kind words. The lyric was my only contribution to this. All the technical stuff is over my head but Simon reads the comments and he takes care of all that. He doesn't like his voice as well as most people seem to, including me. I am very happy with his vocals. He told me he wrote this on his laptop and I was amazed.
