Here's my latest offering Looking In
©2020 Nigel Quin Another day has fallen over All the pieces lay around Hearts are fraying at the edges And the right words can’t be found Everybody wants to help out But no one knows quite what to do All trying to find the answer When all the time it lay with you [Chorus] Now you sit and wonder Where on earth to begin I will look out for you When you start looking in Another friend falls by the wayside Happens more often than it should Must be a way that you can change that Before you lose them all for good It is not easy being the victim [and] Finding someone new to blame But for the people who still love you It’s drama time again [Chorus] [Bridge] Your world and my world will always be the same But the truth we see is different where tears and confusion reign I’ve been here all the time for you But it seems you never heard Time to break the cycle And leave the theatre of absurd [Chorus x2] [End]

Hi Nigel Love that wavering guitar Great melodies and what a wonderful hook: I will look out for you When you start looking inVocals sound sublime and nice arrangement - maybe could be trimmed in length though. Enjoyed my listen - good work! Paul

Enjoyed my listen, Nigel:
I always want to know... is that your vocal? You know my habit of paying demo singers... (a geezer getting older) but the vocal was perfect for the song. Best wishes for success with it. The video clips you managed to "wangle" from friends (and your own, I suspect) were perfect.
Thanks for sharing, ----Dave

Nigel,
A great melody and arrangement. John Lennon would love this simple theme and vibe--I definitely knew you were British when I closely listened to your phonetics before seeing the UK. Love the 1st tenor mellow sound you have going as well--a unique vocal. Enjoyable and relatable, well done!

It’s interesting what you say about the length, generally I am not one for longer songs, but this one seemed to unfold more naturally that way. Hi Vic – glad you think so

Thanks for sharing, ----Dave Hi Dave - Yes, that is my vocal. The video clips were assembled from royalty free clips, I made a small donation to the people that provided the ones that I used. Thanks for your kind words Well written and well done. Very good structure: AABAABCiABB

Hi steady-eddie – I tried a slightly different vocal style (for me) on this one, thanks for your kind words

I like the guitar earworm. Nicely done. My main suggestion would be to add a little melodic variety to the second and fourth verses just to keep the interest building for the chorus.

Nigel,
Absolutely loved this! I’m trying to figure out who this reminds me of, and I can’t put my finger on it. Maybe Lennon, as suggested above, but really unique. Love the vocal as well. Definitely ear worm stuff. Feel good about this one!
Best regards,
Deej

Well done Sir. A Brilliant arrangement and production Nigel. Love the tasty guitar and bass bits and your vocals are silky smooth and expressive. An impressively built soundscape with everything perfectly placed... with room to breath.

I love this song Nigel. Great production and the music just comes off as professional.
The video... I've gotta admit I'm not a fan. Basically it's shots of normal people looking at their laptops interposed with shots of a woman looking at the ocean.
What are your talking about? Cyber bullying? (That's my best guess). But IMO the video does almost nothing to advance the story. If you're talking about Cyber-Bullying, showing people normally interacting with their laptops is just confusing.
Anyway, I absolutely love your tune. Not so much the video.
Peace,
Ian

The song is not about cyber-bullying, it's about someone who always thinks that other people are at fault when things go wrong, when actually if it keeps happening maybe they should have a look at their own behavior. No problem with your views on the video, it was an experiment for me using royalty free footage and I did my best to convey the mood of the lyric with those restrictions Thanks Nigel

I was going to say that starting and ending the video "low-tech" was very clever. Contrasting people frowning at their computer screens with one lone soul looking out at the ocean is also very ironically poetic. People want to feel "in control" and "larger" than life, so shrinking the world to the size of a computer monitor can be very seductive. However, there's never been anything like pondering the vastness of the ocean, or perhaps the night sky, to make you feel small yet connected to something larger than yourself. At least that's what I took from it... Nice job!

Not sure how I missed this one. Very enjoyable. I agree it's an earworm and yes, it has a touch of Lennon in the simple melody, which really matches the thoughtful lyric. It might be a little long but it really didn't feel like it. Yes, the video is a bit of an awkward fit in places. This is inevitable when using stock footage, as I've found when trying to do the same

That actually makes great sense. We've all had our run ins with narcissists. I've heard it said that if a true narcissist goes to therapy for a year or two they might admit they might have a problem. Peace, Ian

I like everything about this, Nigel. I thought I'd really like it after I heard the first couple of bars and I was right. I like the melody and the quirkiness of it. You should be very proud of this.

Thanks JAPOV - it's all getting very deep now - The strange thing is video footage can often work unexpectedly, just play some music while watching TV with the sound down

I agree with 100% on the video, although I'm amazed at how talented some of the video makers are, and thankful to them for making their work available. I like everything about this, Nigel.
