Hi there. Like everyone else, I am a songwriter (from Houston). If anyone else is from the Houston area and would like to hook up, email me at melody.hamilton@eds.com. I'd love to hear from you.

hello Melody, and all from Houston. Just in case my last post appears incomplete, I was writing that I'm involved in a couple of strong collarborations right now. TRU SOL is an original R&B/soul group here in Houston, and neuma is also original, however it's more of a piano-based, adult contemporary sound. My real shout to the group right now is that I'm organizing a mixer (musician's networking session) in the downtown Houston area on December 21st. Details are being finalized as we speak, so as the final word rolls, you will see it here. Last thing: link of the day - http://www.indie-connections.com. You can find even more Houston-area acts with classifieds. Looking forward, ------------------ Jerry Richard performing songwriter http://trusol.iuma.comhttp://www.neuma.nethttp://www.cdbaby.com/cd/jerryrichard

Hi Melody, Just wanted to drop you a line and let you know there was someone else from the Houston area who has just become a member of JP Folks. We live in Kingwood. My wife and I love music and I'm interested in developing into a better songwriter.

If you all want to start an official Houston Chapter, let me know who to use as the contact and we'll run info in the newsletter to get other Houstonians and Texans to come out.
Let me know,

Hello, Musexans! I would like to join the Houston Chapter, as soon as a coordinator is found.
I'm a singer/songwriter looking for fellow Houstonians with whom to form a partnership (ie, management, band). I'm also looking for open mic nights to help further develop my performances. Does anyone have any ideas?
Does anyone have any contact names for major label scouts in the Houston area? I have heard there are several, none of which are listed in the standard telephone pages (big surprise there...).
Jerry, please add me to any newsletter you come up with. I'm looking forward to this mixer!

Hey, gang, here's the info on the mixer and showcase. See you there!
**********************
Houston musicians, Jerry Richard, Jr., and Charles Rene, have collaborated under the moniker, Muse-net, to organize a networking session and acoustic showcase. The event will be on Friday, December 21, and start at 6pm in the Blue Room, which is in the St. Germain Lofts at 705 Main in Downtown Houston. At 8pm, showcase will feature a variety of local performers at the Flying Saucer Restaurant, on the street level of the St. Germain Lofts. The showcase is free to the public, however donations will be accepted for the Musicians Benevolent Society of Houston, a non-profit organization founded in 1990 to provide temporary, emergency financial assistance to musicians in need.
The object of the networking event is to foster a sense of community with other musicians and create employment and advancement for these musicians within our emerging Houston entertainment scene. Richard and Rene saw the need for more networking between musicians in Houston and sought to create an opportunity for this to happen. In addition to fellow musicians, representatives from area clubs, music licensing organizations, retail stores, and radio will be on hand to engage and inform.
Artists confirmed for the showcase thus far are The Pander Band, Arthur Yoria, Tru Sol, The Christopher Wilson Band, Robert McCardell, Linda Lou and Carrol Franke, Catherine Burnside, and with special guests from Austin, the band Pure. Paul Martin from Pure is a jpfolks member and Shawn Pander (of the Pander Band) was nominated in 2001 Jpfolks Music Awards for best R&B song with "Tough Guy".
Again, donations are appreciated for the Musicians Benevolent Society of Houston. MBS has generously provided gifts for many blues, jazz, > classical, rock and Texas music communities in the greater Houston area. > Assistance to date totals $40,000 impacting 140 musicians and their > families. Questions and referrals for assistance may be directed to Steve Sucher, co-founder, at 713-221-8288 (office) or 713-993-0335 (home).
Volunteers are needed to handle registration of attendees, sound during the showcase, and a host of other duties. Interested parties for volunteering and/or more information about the event may contact Jerry Richard, Jr., at mandrakes@juno.com.

The mixer was a blast! I really look forward to the next one. It was nice meeting Melody and Jerry (finally). I made lots of contacts, and have several leads to stay busy. Could we keep the Blue Room as a permanent place to meet (as often as we *do* meet)? The atmosphere was just about right, I think. Does anyone know how we did on JPF memberships? If anyone would like to collaborate, let me know. Jerry, I'd love to get together!
