Thank you Wy for letting me work on this with you. It was a lot of fun. We are thinking the kids may not be able to get all those hops and stops out easily....but...We're hoping they'll have a lot of fun trying..and singing this..... Your thoughts as to whether the lyrics and melody work well together and anything else you see that needs fixing....thanks bunches.... Melody Link: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=6469 The Hopping Song Lyrics by Wyman Griffith, BMI; Kaley Willow, ASCAP Music: Kaley Willow Revised ©2007, 2004 Verse 1 Mr. Frog went a hopping down the road When who should he meet but Mr. Toad Frog said Mr. Toad hop along with me There's lots of things for us to see Verse 2 Frog and Toad went a hopping down the road When they saw Mr. Bunny moving slow They said Bunny hop with us if you will Let's see what's over yonder hill Chorus They're gonna hop hop hop hop hop hop hop hop hop They won't stop stop stop stop stop stop stop stop stop Till they get to the top top top top TOP Till they get to the TOP of the hill Verse 3 So those three went a hopping down the road When they saw Mr. Cricket feeling low They said Cricket come on now....don't be blue We wish you'd hop with us too Verse 4 So four friends went a hopping down the road Frog...Cricket....and Bunny....Mr. Toad Hard...hard...hopping....going....up...a....steep...steep...hill They haven't reached the top.....but they will Chorus They're gonna hop hop hop hop hop hop hop hop hop They won't stop stop stop stop stop stop stop stop stop Till they get to the top top top top TOP Till they get to the TOP of the hill Spoken : Let's join them Changed Chorus We're gonna hop hop hop hop hop hop hop hop hop We won't stop stop stop stop stop stop stop stop stop Till we get to the top top top top TOP Till we get to the TOP Get to the TOP Get to the TOP of the hill Kids http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=6469 Adults: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=8404 Animation: http://www.flashfast.com/kids/ CD: http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/kwwg TONS of GREAT JPF music here: http://www.cdbaby.com/group/justplainfolks

Another cute collab. Just me stoppin' to comment on your hoppin'. Another nice one for the kids. Very upbeat and fun. Guess if they act out the song w/hops it won't be a song they'll sing right after snack/lunctime.
The only things that I see, not even nits as I read and these are soooo minor but I'll mention are these:
Mr. Bunny wouldn't be a bunny if he's already a Mr. Maybe change to "fuzzy bunny" or "Mr. Rabbit". Also I was wondering in verse 4 if you could keep the order that the animals come in to the story the same i.e. frog, toad, bunny, cricket instead of frog, cricket, bunny, toad. This might help the kids keep it straighter or BETTER YET TAKE THEIR NAMES AND ADD A PHONETICALLY FRIENDLY FIRST PART TO THEIR NAME (EX. freddy frog) WHICH WILL HELP THE KIDS REMEMBER AND MAKE IT EVEN MORE PLAYFUL SUCH AS:
Freddy Frog, Tommy Toad, Funny (Sunny) (Fluffy) Bunny, and replace cricket since he's an insect and just use Kangaroo since Kangaroo's hop and fit more into this animal family. Kangaroo has more syllables so he won't need a pre-name, but if you need a one syllable before Kangaroo you could say "a Kangaroo", or keep cricket and call him "Carl" "Kevin" , etc. Cricket.
Just some thoughts. This will be a good song for the little ones to get out the wiggles before sit down time.
Best, Lynn

Thanks Dan, She didn't exactly tell me I could but then she didn't forbid it so I guess I should mention that KK is now known as BBBB, that's BUMPED and BRUISED and BLACK and BLUE. She was on the top of about a 4 foot stepladder---stool and it tipped over with her. She tried to grab hold of something and slowed the fall down enough so nothing was broken but she said she was pretty sore and quite "colorful" I see she's still navigating though so I guess she'll make it. Heck she's young and resilient, (It's all a matter of perspective<G>) I'll look at your post later Lynn, if Kaley doesn't get to it. Thanks for looking it over Wy

Songs like this make me feel so "hoppy". Thanks for the smiles, guys.
"Grits is one of those country-boy words that is both singular and plural-like deer, elk and sheep. I think the singular is appropriate when there's a modifier that makes it clear one is talking about something specific. Like, 'Grits are good for you, but these here grits is tasty.'"~~Joe Wrabek

You two are just way too good when it comes to writing for the little ones. it is a very special and uncommon talent. Hats off to both of you! If you ever made this into a book for adults, you could have him hop over he local lounge for a quick drink...a Hop-Scotch?? I'd better go...bye! Alan

Well, Lynn---BBBB, I think what Lynn is saying is that to some people a bunny is only a bunny when it's little. When it gets big it's a rabbit, but I think that might be kind if a "regional" thing. To a lot of people it's always a bunny or a bunny rabbit unless it's a big ol' jack rabbit. I'll-we'll think on the order thing though. Gosh, after I wrote the bumped and bruised and black and blue I thought there might be a song there too. (Had the same thought as "two" female types,. "That's" kinda' scary, <G>.) Well, I went off on a different tack more in standard subject and started it like this----
Bruised and battered Black and blue That's my heart Since I met you Thanks for the looksee and suggestions Lynn Wy

Hey Alan. Thanks for the kudos. Kaley deserves more of the credit on childrens songs than I do, but did you see, I say did you see, what she did? Posted another one and then left. I think I might be a little "slow" sometimes. (No comments on that Bobbie <G>)Guess I can't get after her much, since she's injured though. I see she said she could at least sit down today. Do ya' s'pose that's any indication of how she lit on the floor? <G> Hop-Scotch, I like that. You're a sure nuff' , true word smith Alan. Thanks for looking it over Wy

KaleyNabur and Wy, KK...(or is that BBBB??), Yeppers, you probably passed me a few thousand times on that 405 highway. I take that route to both of my jobs...and for countless other errands or running around. Sorry to hear you had a losing fight with gravity, but glad you're alright. Wy, Guess we're gonna have to get that girl a big foam suit and a helmet when she tackles any measurable heights from now on. Dano.

Mornin’ Kaley and Wy, First I think I’d have ‘em hoppin’ “UP’ the road rather than “DOWN”. A couple of suggestions for V-1 and V-2. Verse 1 Mr. Frog went a hopping “UP” the road When who should he meet but Mr. Toad Frog said Mr. Toad hop along with me Yonder hill is where we need to be Verse 2 The Frog and Toad was hopping right along When Mr. Bunny ask ‘em hey what’s wrong. Come hop with us Mr Bunny if you will Goin’to see what's over yonder hill Maybe give V-4 a little more thought (Hard to get up the hill, but they will) I wonder if all the hopping was worthwhile ??? If seeing over the hill is just to satisfy their curiosity, maybe; Verse 4 A funny little thing called curiosity keeps ‘em all a hopping to see what they can see. Hard...hard...hopping....going....up...a....steep...steep...hill They haven't reached the top.....but they will Going to be a real nice little song Good Luck Bill

G'day Lisa, Everybody must stay up late. Way behind this morning.Kaley's going to have to do some of the catching up when she comes back on , hmmm, this evening, I think. Well Kaley says she's OK, just stiff and sore. The line you mention--- We wish you'd hop with us too-----------Seems like it was supposed to read ------------ We wish you'd hop'long with us too. I'll have to look at my last copy. Thanks. More coffee Wy

Hi Kaley,
I haven't listened yet but it's all here and just needs inspiring sing-along, bouncy melody to be a success.
For kids . . . I'd forgo the "blues" part as kids would be more ready and eager to relate to a happy cricket -- and besides if you say he's blue then it begs a reason why, which you don't need.
Verse 3 So those three went a hopping down the road TILL they saw Mr. Cricket, CLICKING HIGH AND low They said MR.Cricket . . .YOU LOOKIN FOR SOMETHIN' TA DO We'RE HOPIN' THAT YOU'LL hop with us too
If you say "were a hopping" then you would use "when" in line 2

Hi Kaley and Wy, Been a long time since I been on here almost forgot my password. I agree with some of the others, you did a great job, the kiddies will have fun with this one. I can almost hear them giggle as they get the hops and stops mixed up. The melody kinda reminded me of "Froggy went a courtin"not exactly but somewhat. Nice little song for the kiddies.

Hi again Dano, Well I'll pick up one more before my beatup partner gets back. I wouldn't want her to think I could handle it by myself, she might "never" come back <G>) I'll let KK--BBBB report on her condition. She should be back shortly. Yeah, a foam suit should work, or she could just eat more so she'd have more padding when she falls <G> (I really shouldn't pick on her when she's injured, but it's just a habit dontcha' see.) Wy Wy

Hi Calvin, Thanks for the kind words, Yeah, that's about the way we, or at least I, envisioned the song. As an action song, with maybe the kids hopping around the room in a long line, (if they could be controlled that much, <G<) and maybe bumping into each other when someone didn't stop on cue. Hey R D, Thanks for looking it over and the kudos, yep that KK is good and deserves the lions share of the credit Wy

Hi Lisa Gal.... ..So Glad you liked this....Would love to know if Your Wee Guy...would wonder...or ask...what's over the Hill? and when will they get there....? ya know..Wyman had that in there...and the piano gal....took it out...... We'll take a look at it. Thanks...for mentioning it!!!... Our hopes are..that...either a teacher...or child would initiate.... WHAT IS over the Hill......?.....and WHEN will they get there...?...Thought it was open ended enough...., that with a bit of spark..it could get...all kinds of discussion going with the pre-school/kindy set of folks..... Happy you liked it..... Hugs... kk Awe John....well...We're working at carving a part of that pie.... ... Glad you think so.....very glad.... but the competition is fierce.... HUGS my friend...and thanks... kk

Hi V Am so glad you like this and thanks for saying so..... on the CD?...GREAT!!!....Critters is close... ... Andy & Friends...is our first CD...Our 2nd is in production.... a bit slower than we anticipated....but We think it will be worth the extra time.... Thanks V for looking and listening!!!... Hugs... kk Hi Bill... A very thoughtful review..... thank you.... I'm going to approach Wy and see what he thinks of that "up" and If he likes....and If it's ok with you?...will change that to up. Makes sense to me.....Thank you very much.!!! On the other suggested changes... We'll step back 3 steps and look... I personally like the very simple open ended song we have going here.... but it still needs some refinement. Will go back and specifically look and see if any of your suggestions will help in making this meter more exactly between verses 1,2, 3...... I think this is a candidate for children's songbooks....but....it has to be able to play as close to exactly the same...(for the first 3 verses) ... and 4th has more flexibility...in that it's a change up verse. So Will step back and see what changes will work..... Bill... Thanks for making us think.... Hugs to you....... kk Kids http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=6469 Adults: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=8404 Animation: http://www.flashfast.com/kids/ CD: http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/kwwg TONS of GREAT JPF music here: http://www.cdbaby.com/group/justplainfolks

Since KK--BBBB has returned (cheers), I'll let her take care of most of this.I'm going to post the rewrite of the "Mist" song shortly and see if you all who read it before, (Or anyone else) thinks it'd serve as a "lead in" song for an album on The Mist Along The River theme. (Not this P M though, have to watch the playoffs.) I'd still want it to stand on it's own. But----I'd better skip up here and speak to this, uh, "newcomer" Wy

Hey Emmy-F L, I thought you were gonna' post under your right name when you came back on <G>. I'll have to listen again about Froggie Went A' Courtin'. Didn't think about that one. Thought another song might be mentioned and still may, but there's a whole lot of songs that sound somewhat like other songs. That's one reason an infrinfement suit is difficult to win. They trot out a bunch of other songs that also sound like the song in question. Are you going to stick around some or just retire back into the deep, dark ? Anyway, thanks for coming by and telling us what you think Wy

Hi Kaley and Wy,
Just the right combination for a super kids song! I love everything about it. I've said it before and hate to repeat myself, but gosh you two have a knack for kid's songs! I don't think I could even come up with a subject for a kids song and you guys seem to create them so easily! Wy, glad you're better and Kaley, that photo of you is exactly how I imagined you look!

I should say hi to everybody at least Hey Texas Bill, Seems like "up" the road would be logical. I'll discuss it with my "'pert 'near as good as new' partner. The other points, we'll have to compare the way it is with your suggestions. Thanks for looking it over. Wy Hi Phillip, Kudos are always welcome. Thanks Wy

Hi Kaley, Well...I had not thought of what might be waiting over the hill, but Max might! I'll run it by him tomorrow, and if he says anything insightful or brilliant, I'll come back and let you know! Lisa

Well, the song, "She'll Be Comin' 'Round The Mountain" came to mind when I heard this...not sure if it's in the public domain. May be worth investigating if you plan to make this available for sale.

Dear Shayne... Thanks so much for your thoughts in trying to make sure.... we were writing something original. I'm jumping to you out of order.. because... We've heard both it sounds like Froggie Went A Courtin and Round The MOuntain. When you compare the songs note on note.....it is 5 notes possibly 6 notes depending upon which verse you're listening to. Have no idea whether its public domain or not.....As I didn't hear the similarity of those 5 or 6 notes...till it was pointed out. I broke the song apart and played the first two lines of each. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post them here...but believe me.. I would love to. I've played ONE line of referenced song.....followed by ONE line of....our melody.....then......SECOND line of referenced songs along with SECOND...line of our melody.... If you would care to hear the differences........ holler and I will "gladly" send the mp3. There is NO similarity what so ever other than the FEEL.....after those 5 or 6 notes in the first line. Our Hoppin Song Goes UP in the middle of the first line.........Round the Mountain...takes the notes..DOWN..at That point in the melody. Please let me know if you'd like to hear it..... Thanks for keeping us on our toes......., Shayne:) Hugs..... kk P.S... Thanks very much for taking the time to listen tooo.... means a lot. One more comment. Comin' Round the Mountain has been mentioned and you can hear it at the start all right, but not very long. I Googled Mountain a bit and it's an old traditional Ammerican folk song-- Writer unknown, copyright unknown which would make it public domain . Believed written in the late 1800's. Of course certain "arrangements" could be copyrighted , but that shouldn't enter into this. Though it's Kaley's baliwick, easier to "stay" out of trouble than to "get" out of trouble. so thanks for bringing it up. (They say if you get sued over a song, even though the lyrics were written by one writer and the melody by another, they're going to sue both of you anyway <G<) More coffee Wy

Howdy KK and Wy,
While I LOVE this...especially that great chorus...I have to say that the verse melody does sound SO much like She'll Be Comin' Round The Mountain that I found it quite distracting. While it may not be note for note as you say...the rhythm and chords are the same. What is being played with the left hand is the same as the other song. The second couplet in the verses is not a similar as the first two lines...but because the first two definitely took me there mentally, I was already in that mode by the time the last couplet rolled around. Even with the other song being in public domain...my recommendation would be to switch the melody in those opening two lines so it does not detract from a terrific kid's song. JMO of course.
Hoppin' hugs, Bobbie

Cute lyric, Wy. Made me think of a local burger commercial jingle from when I was a kid: Jack's hamburgers for 15 cents are so good, good, good You'll go back, back, back to Jack, Jack, Jack For more, more, more! And despite the onslaught of all the national chains, Jack's survives. Kaley, this tune is very reminiscent of Bird Sounds, with a few variations. Is that by design? Enjoyed it. Ben \ EDIT: I didn't read the other posts. Bobbie was posting simultaneously with me (only she types 6 times faster). Kaley, you'll recall, I thought "Bird Sounds" was alot like "She'll Be Coming...." (as did my sister)...we grew up on that song, one of Daddy's favorites...especially the "hide the rooster" part....
