Some of you who have been around awhile may remember this lyric, which I think I wrote at least two years back. Martin aka Accelerator, located the lyric and added his musical magic and voila...we now have a rockin' country collab. Would appreciate any and all feedback on this. Martin did the music, vocals and production on this. You can listen at his Soundclick site. It is the BOTTOM one on the list (oops he moved it to the top!!). http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=524587Lyric is below: "Livin' On Dreams For Awhile" (Hayden BMI / Gallup ASCAP) Stomach's been empty for couple 'a days Stray cat outside my door Now I’m down to the the last scraps of old pizza And she's beggin' me for more But there's a craving in my belly There's a need in my soul Never thought I'd get this far down But makin' music That sweet ol’ music makes me whole...and it CHORUS: and it Looks like I'll be livin' on dreams for awhile Livin' the blues ain't gonna go outta style It’s a day-to-day struggle just to survive Like that old cat, I'm barely stayin' alive But I still got my music, my reason to smile And it looks like I'll be livin' on dreams for awhile My transmission up and died I must've been goin too fast Now I gotta walk everywhere I go As long as these old soles last And there's a craving in my belly There's a need in my soul Never thought I'd get this far down But makin' music That sweet ol’ music makes me whole...and it CHORUS: One bare bulb hotel room And we've both seen better days It aint much but we call it home For the two of us strays And there's a craving in my belly There's a need in my soul Never thought I'd get this far down But makin' music That sweet ol’ music makes me whole...and it BRIDGE: That ol' tip jar don't stretch too far But I don't give a damn, 'Cause music's what I am and it Looks like I'll be livin' on dreams for awhile Livin' the blues ain't gonna go outta style It’s a day-to-day struggle just to survive Looks like I'll be livin' on dreams for awhile (© Martin Hayden / Bobbie Gallup)

That's MARTIN??? OMG, how cool is that? I love it. Good job, guys. He sounds like a country version of Bruce Springsteen.
"Grits is one of those country-boy words that is both singular and plural-like deer, elk and sheep. I think the singular is appropriate when there's a modifier that makes it clear one is talking about something specific. Like, 'Grits are good for you, but these here grits is tasty.'"~~Joe Wrabek

Hi Bobbie!!! You're right, this is one rockin' tune! I like it. I only have a nit & a sug. Keep in mind...these are just MHO...so here goes. The word belly seemed a lil' odd to me...probably because after watching Austin Powers...every time I hear that word I see the fat "guy" sayin' that odd phrase over & over...lol. I know...stop watchin' so many off the wall movies...sorry. Anyway...if it's meant to insinuate actual hunger...ignore my sig...if it's not maybe it would work as so: And there's a craving deep inside The next part just didn't seem as conversational to me as the rest of the lyric, I just wanted to sing it in my head like this... It aint much but it's called home For these two strays Like I said...JMHO...I don't think I have had the chance to "meet" Martin aka Accelerator...but tell him he did a great job. Kudos to you both! Bree

Wow. Hit material here...One nit. In the chorus, the first 4 lines are exactly the same melodically. I would like to see a slight change with the last 2 lines. Just maybe a note or two, going up a little more, or change of chords or something.

HiDee SBL!
Still unable to successfully sign-up for Soundclick, but GREAT Hook, Very Soulful Lyrics here!
"Livin' the Blues ain't goin' outta style" seems a bit more Normal-Speak on that one line...
"KUDOS" Overall for a fine Dreamer's Song, M'Lady!

Hey Bobbie & Accel...
Nice colab. And yep, sure has a commercial sound to it. I remember this lyric from a while back. Martin sure has a way of putting fine music to other folks' lyrics, doesn't he!? Sounds good to me! Nice job!

Howdy Ms Tricia!!
Yep...that's Martin too! He is amazing, isn't he!! LOL I checked out some of his stuff over on the MP3 board and LOVED what he did for your KISS lyric! It's fun to step a bit outside the country genre once in awhile. A countrified Springsteen?? Gotta love that!!
Thanks for the listen and the kind thoughts!

Howdy Bree,
Thanks so much for taking time to check this out and for the excellent suggestions. The 'craving in the belly' idea does actually mean he is really hungry. Most of us probably never get to the point these days where we get hunger pangs...but this guy does. I never saw the Austin Powers movie so whatever he said in it wouldn't have occurred to me. LOL I like the belly idea there so it'll prolly stay. Will sure ponder on the other idea. It's a couple syllybillies shorter than the existing line so would have to see if it would work musically. I am sure Martin will be checking this thread out...so he will see your kind comments!

Howdy Ms Betty, Sure appreciate you taking time to check this out!! I'll make sure Martin sees your suggestion on the melody line there. I never noticed that it stays the same...so apparently it didn't bother me...but what do I know? I am not a musician... Hugs, Bobbie

Good afternoon, Bobbie! Enjoyed the listen ... I do remember this lyric and Martin really did a great job on the music! Kind of a Jimmy Buffet - Bruce Springstein combined sound!! I did question having basically two choruses going in this one (since you repeat the "craving in my belly" as well as the one you marked as "chorus"), but it works when I listen to it. Only thing I might suggest is shortening the title to "Livin' On Dreams" but other than that, I like it a lot!! Good luck to you on pitching it!

Really enjoyable, you two! I like the phrasing of the lines, especially the pizza line and the one following. It's a subtle thing but it really makes a song, in my opinion, to have the rhythm of the melody match the words and not "torque" them or "tweak" them. It sure seems like the chorus could use a little variation from the verse melody, as Betty said. I was waiting for something to show up there and it didn't happen. I was a bit let down, but not a lot. I'd like to hear it change up a bit there, though. I love where the fifth line goes, musically. If something like that could happen at the top of the chorus, I think it would add a lot. There are so many things that are right with this - touches here and there that make it feel polished. The background voices, the little piano ad libs, the licks from the electric guitars. It just a nice variation and richness to the background that sets the lyric up nicely. I have no nits with the lyric. I liked it as-is. It's hard for me to nitpick on a lyric that fits the music so well. It becomes a "set in stone" kind of thing for me. I liked it a lot, and I loved the sentiment. Really, really enjoyable! - James

Howdy Tampa,
Thanks for taking a look at this'un and for the kudos...though I sure wish you'd get with the current century so you could listen to some of this stuff. If you could hear it...you'd know that the accent on that line falls on GO so it'd be tough to replace it with GOIN'. Could just be the way I hear it...me being aurally challenged you know. LOL
Appreciate the time and thoughts on this! Martin did a great job in a style I am not that great at working with...so I am quite pleased with the result!

Howdy Alan, You've been on my mind lately. Sure hope things are well up there in St. Louis. Always appreciate it when you stop in to check on my stuff. Thank you so much for the kind words on this. I agree with you. Without Martin's magic, this would probably never have seen the light of day...or the sound of music!!! Hugs, Bobbie

Hey Bree,
Fat Bustard had an effect on me too, but I didn't equate him with these lyrics. "Get in me belly"
That's pretty funny actually.
I equated that line with the Jamaican term "me belly hungry". Isn't that strange how that one line evokes so much for each of us.
Nice meeting you and thanks for your comments,
Martin / Accel

Helen and I think of you quite often, too. And....it's all good!
I have done very little lyric writing over the past 3 or 4 months. I am working on an unusual CD project. I have mnay of the rough cuts already posted over on the MP3 Forum. I am embedding classical piano music into traditonal and modern genres of music. Some of the sounds are interesting! Wait until you hear classical music dropped into Reggae and some similar to Rap! I have 9 of the 10 songs in rough production stage...they just a little tweaking here and there and then remastered. I am programming everything, except the guitar woek and a small amount of the piano work, on my computer. That includes horns, strings, drums, flutes, etc. It's beena lot of work, but a lot of fun! I am doing it all at home. I anticipate being finished by late July. Hey.....just in time to take a few of them with me to Pineyfest!!!!
Helen and i are hoping...we'll just have to see...to get down to visit you sometime before Pineyfest. I'll get with you by email to discuss that with ya. Again, nice song here!
Big ole "Show Me" hugs going out to ya!

Accel/Martin...
Helen and I are doing okay. She's in a period of regression right now. That happens a couple of times a year. She regresses, then levels off for several months, then the cycle repeats. We deal with it. Don't really have a lot of choice! Thanks for asking, though...much appreciated!
Yep, these are some pretty nice lyrics and you really turned them into a nice arrnagement. Again, good job by both of you!

Hi there Melissa!
Hope your computer is well again! Hate all that skipping stuff. Martin not only has a great voice but he did all that terrific production on this. I'm gonna try to get him to come join us at Pineyfest this summer. Glad you enjoyed this.

Howdy Mary Lou!
I think the section you are talking about is actually the LIFT, which precedes the chorus. It just isn't marked as such though I think it was on my lyric sheet...maybe not. LOL I can live with the title either way. Martin uses just the Livin' On Dreams. I use the title whichever way strikes my mood of the moment. LOL I think (if I can remember back that far) that when I looked the title up on ASCAP and BMI that there was another song called 'Living On Dreams'...so I added the 'For Awhile' to differentiate it from the earlier one.
The one big drawback with this song is that "songwriter songs" are real tough to get cut. Every songwriter has one in their back pocket...but who else other than songwriters appreciates them?
Thanks so much for checking this out. I am so pleased that you enjoyed it!

Howdy James B!!
It's great to see you dropping in again!! Glad you chose to check out this collab. Sure appreciate all the terrific things you had to say about it. Martin really made this sound polished didn't he? Rumor has it that he actually is frontman for two R&B soul bands!! His talent and expertise sure shines through on this one IMO!! I am thrilled that he chose to do the music for one of my lyrics. I totally agree with you on his prosody here. Doesn't get much better, does it? So glad you like the lyric. Will see what he thinks on any changes to the chorus melody. I like it as is...but he may want to make a change...and is free to do so.
Thanks again for checking this out!

Hi Bobbie and Martin,
I like this a lot! When it first started playing, I got distracted and was dealing with something else. When my mind re-focused and I heard the music playing, I thought that I was listening to the radio. The song ended before I remembered that the radio wasn't on!

Bobbie & Martin,
If I may borrow your thread for a second? Thanks!
Lisa......
I think what you said about not realizing that you weren't listening to the radio is about the best compliment you could give someone about their song. And this one deserves that compliment. You said it far better than I ever could have with that one little prase!
Okay, back to our regularly scheduled program, "The Bobbie & Martin Show"!

Howdy Alan,
I am saddened to hear that Ms Helen is regressing right now. It is such a helpless feeling, not knowing what to do to help except let you both know how very much you are cared about. You know we love you and pray for you daily.
I'd love to see you both anytime you can make it down here. I have to go up to MI for a quick trip just before Pineyfest (my only nephew is getting married). Can't miss that.
Your new project sounds REALLY interesting and totally unique! I can't wait to hear it!!
