Hi, for those who don't know me, my name is Michele Bolton and I live in Bendigo, Vic, Australia.

Don't push my button, is the first song I have written, and recorded. I would very much like your feed back, regarding my song, I have only got into singing since 2006, I went for singing lessons, and recorded the wedding song, in which was played in the church on our wedding day. Everyone was shocked, and my husband, he was an emotional wreck.

I was hooked then, to record a song in which I had written, I asked around, and found Paul, what a fantastic job, and what a inspiration. Within a few months my song, became reality. Wow

I hope you all like it.

Chorus

Hey, don't push my button
I can't take it any more
Anger, tears, the sadness inside
I know now I've got my pride
So hey, don't push my button
I won't take it any more
Stronger, wiser, than ever before
I won't play the victim no more....

Verse

There was a time and a place
I was lost and confused
Young and trusting, nothing to lose
Had a dream I held on, for many a year
Never thought I'd be shedding these tears
Everyone around me seemed to move away
Only feels like yesterday
Weeks have turned to years....
It's time to put it away......

Chorus

Hey, don't push my button
I can't take it any more
Anger, tears, the sadness inside
I know now I've got my pride
So hey, don't push my button
I won't take it any more
Stronger, wiser, than ever before
I won't play the victim no more.....

Verse

I found a man, he's here today
Made me stronger in every way
Helped me take some steps
Enough to walk away
He understands, he holds me tight
Helps me through the day and night
Never turns away.....
Thank God for him today....

Chorus

Hey, don't push my button
I can't take it any more
Anger, tears, the sadness inside
I know now I've got my pride
So hey, don't push my button
I won't take it any more
Stronger, wiser than ever before
And I won't play the victim no more....

Music

Verse

Nows the time, I mean today
Get up and fight, fight all the way
All your anger, sadness inside
I want you to take it in stride
All the tears, that you will cry
The pain will heal, it just takes time
And when some one tries to hurt you
I want you all to say..........Hey..........

Chorus

Hey don't push my button
I can't take it any more
Anger, tears, the sadness inside
I know now I've got my pride
So, hey don't push my button
I won't take it any more
Stronger, wiser than ever before
And I won't play the victim no more
So hey...Repeat the chorus

Hi Derek

Nice to catch up with you. It is nearly 4 am in the morning here. I am waiting for my hubbies work cloths to dry. He goes to work in a couple of hours, then I will get the kids off to school, then I will have some sleep through the day, then I go to work. Maybe I should write a song and call it NEVER ENDING cause those household chores don't end.

By the way, how come your on JPF whilst you are supposed to be working. Ha????????

Thanks Derek

I am so pleased you finally listened to the song. Yeh I love wanh wanh wanh, Paul done a wonderful job, he should be so proud of this, what an achievement.

Yeh, and I was proud of myself, I never thought I had the ability to sing at all. If someone had of told me, this is what I would of been doing in my forties, I would of laughed at them.

One of the best experiences of my life, was working with Paul. Fantastic!

Thanks for listening Derek.
Off to work now, lol,

Michele,

Hard to believe it your first song, very well done. At first I thought this was the song you sang at your wedding -- and it didn't quite strike me as a wedding day song at all (LOL!).

OK moving on -- I think it has an extremely catchy hook which makes it a great listen and makes it potentially marketable.

I don't see where the "I found a man, he's here today..." verse fits in at all to the theme that you have set up. Maybe that's a bridge type thing where you go a different direction or just re-write it. (Just my opinion, of course)

If you keep writing 'em like this -- watch out world!

Kevin

Hey Stan,

I am so pleased you liked it. Yehhhhh, thanks for the stars.

I really love this song myself, not because its mine, it has a catch to it. I get driving around in my husbands ute, with the volume pumping, singing "Hey Don't push my button, people just look at me, its fun. Others have said to me, Michele I can't get that song out of my head, and thats a good sign.

I am so proud of my first song, and thanks a bunch, for taking the time to listen. I love all you guys, JPF, cool what fun you all are.

Yipee smile

Hi Kevin

Thanks for listening, I am pleased you like it.

I thought I would explain regarding the verse, "I found a man, he's here today", I am a survivor of child abuse, and rape, my second husband has been my inspiration, and has helped me through my rough days, and has never turned his back. If you read all the lyrics, you will follow my story.

My first husband hurt me really bad, there where also many who I loved and cared about deeply turned away, and hurt me more, and I won't go into that as it is to painful.

Today, I am so thankful for those who didn't turn away, I have nothing but love and respect, and I care for them all deeply.

I have nothing to be ashamed about, and by being open about my past, I am hoping to give other victims the confidence to fight back, as they to deserve to make it as well.

SO WATCH OUT WORLD HERE I COME, I have had enough of being bullied, and I am ready to fight back.

Thanks a bunch Kevin for the lovely comments.

Michele,

great first song!...really catchy, great hook, sticks in your head kind of song..your vocal delvery is spot on for the song theme..love your accent

what I like most about this..i'll try to describe it..it's really a punk song disguised as a country song..the attitude, vocal delivery, song topic, stacatto delivery, even the way the verse ends on an up-note with "I won't play the victim no more" and you end the song simply with "Hey!"..these are all more punk than country..i could easily see this song delivered with a much harder edge, all electric guitars, no slide, etc...i think your vocal would even drop in nicely

i agree that the "I found a man" verse doesn't fit and recommend dropping it

Hey Stan

I forgot to say, the song does run a bit long, but I have thought about it, and I think it should be kept that long. If I ever get the confidence to sing in front of a huge crowd, I can see them all pumping now. Wow.

Hey Ant,

Wow, I can't keep up tonight with you all, thanks for your lovely comments Ant.

Just letting you know I absolutely love all types of music, and I think this is where it is all coming out in my lyrics, and my singing. To me, it is a good thing to be different.

I would also like for you to go back to my reply to Kevin, as no I wont drop the, I found a man, and you will see the reasons why.

Thanks for all your advice, I really appreciate it. Yeh I have no doubt this song has potential. I am not saying this to big note my self, I just love singing it, and listening to it. One of my favorite songs.

Hi Michele:

Not too shabby for your first song!

Should mention that is sarcasm - doesn't always translate on the web smile

Agree with the others who have said it's catchy. It DOES stick in your head alright. Hook is great!

I agree with Kevin that the part about finding a man might be better as a bridge.

I wonder about the chorus some - no one else has mentioned it though so maybe it's not a big deal. But it sounds like you are singing about two different times in your life - but singing both in the present tense. I'd be tempted to go with something more along the lines of:

Hey don't push my button
I won't take it any more
I've swept the anger and tears aside
I know now I've got my pride
So, hey don't push my button
I won't take it any more
Stronger, wiser than ever before
And I won't play the victim no more

Nice work on this!

Scott

Hey Girl from down under.....you got you a fine little ditty here. A nice hook, some quality vocals and music. I enjoyed that and to think it's your first is awesome. The lyrics are very good about telling the story but could use some polish. Overall really nice job. Terry

Hi Scott

Thanks for your input, I think if you read my reply to Kevin, you would get a better understanding, where my song is coming from, and you would understand the lyrics a little better.

Yeh I understand what you are saying, but I am, talking about the past and the present, and I appreciate what you are saying, and thanks.

All advice is taken here!

I am pleased you enjoyed the song.

Hi Terry

I agree with you, yeh it does need a little bit more of a polish, but I am confident that it doesn't need much. Paul who done the recording, and the music, has done a marvelous job, and I was over the moon when he had it finished. I think the music really gives the song its own identity, as to the sound of rock, country, pop style. I love it.

Thanks a bunch for your input.

Hi Kevin, Ant and Scott,

I have looked at my lyrics continuous, and I don't get what you mean, regarding (I found a man, he's here today)? Maybe you can all explain what you mean a little better. "I don't get it".

Thanks Michele

Thanks Michele!

That's a great song and a great story of triumph! I was with you all the way and I'm glad you found someone who redeemed the male of the species for you. Love your voice and the positive energy in this song.

Thanks heaps Greg, I am very excited, and I am hooked, as to writing other songs. I really enjoyed working on Don't push my button. The next song "Call a taxi", is and will be so much fun, and a challenge, and thats what its all about.

Greg, I look forward to seeing some of your other work, keep us posted.

Hey Michelle:

Sorry for the delayed reply. I have a bug and am spending the weekend mostly sleeping.....

First of all, I usually tell people that if my critique comes out of left field, they should ignore it - because it just means I got off on a totally different track than the writer intended...so beyond giving you that info, it won't do any good.

It wasn't until I read your explanation that the inclusion of the verse in question made sense to me. Before that, I just thought it was a kind of generalized "I've had some tough times" song. Given that, the verse about a new man kind of seemed to come from nowhere.

No worries - I'm finding out that interpretations can be very diverse - and we loose control of them once a listener gives it a spin smile

Is a catchy song - I like it.

Scott

Hey Michele,

You will find that writing songs is very rewarding on so many levels and you will also find that it is something that will become so a part of you that it will be as if it is like another limb.

You can find more of my music at www.myspace.com/prosongwriter

Take a listen and let me know what you think.

Best wishes,

Hi Greg,

What a fantastic group, you are so professional. I love all types of music, Varsity are Hot, very catchy lyrics, the harmonies,Wow. I can understand the reasons you do what you do. Yeh you have just inspired me to continue, with my singing and songwriting.

When I was working the lyrics, with Paul, and the music, the foundations where just the beginning, when he finished it, I was so emotional, it was the best fun that I have had all my life, incredible.

Thanks a lot Greg, and I understand what your saying, since writing "Don't push my button" I am hooked, and it has become a part of me now, that all these lyrics keep coming, and drives me crazy sometimes, I love it.

Greg, do you know anyone in Australia, that would work with Paul and I on "Don't push my button" and my album? Knowing nothing much about the music industry, I need all the advice, and help that I can get.

Thanks a bunch

I am pleased you can follow the story behind my song now, take care and I hope you get over your bug soon.

I can walk with my head HIGH, and I have no reason to HIDE!

Michele,

Unfortunately, I haven't really met or worked with anyone from/in australia, so I wouldn't be able to give you any leads in that respect. :-(

However, I do work with quite a few people in the United States, Europe, Asia and Scandinavia.

My advice to you is to network, network, network. And while you're networking, keep on writing.

I've noticed that through out the last several years, the more I wrote, the better I got along the way. In addition to that, the more I networked, the more friends I made and the more opportunities came my way.

Put yourself out there. Don't be afraid. Fear is the number one reason why people don't get what they want in life. Forget it. Believe in yourself, be true to yourself, and go out there and get it. :-) Of course, do not by any means do anything unethical in the process.

I have learned that by being myself, being honest to those around me and being GENUINE, people respond so much more to that rather than to someone who is "sharking" the waters.

Also, do not give up. By all means do not give up. I have found that no matter how many obstacles have come my way, there is a lesson to be learned and to keep on going. Persistence is key. True failure comes to the individual who can only see the illusionary wall in front of them and decides that that is the end of the road. Walk through the wall. It's not really there. You will find that if you do walk through that wall, the road keeps on going and you will keep on walking until you find yourself at the golden gates of success. There will be many failures/illusionary walls. Just keep on walking. Success will come. Believe it, Do it, Accept it.

Thanks a bunch Greg, I am a real fighter, and no I wont be giving up. I have no wall in front of me now.

The songs I am working on, its there, the melodies, I can hear them. Working on my album, I want it to be me, I love all different types of music, so be it, thats what will come out on my album. A bit of country, rock, pop, what ever, to me thats what it is all about, hey, being myself.

I will always be an honest person, my husband tells me that I am too honest, and I keep putting myself on the chopping block, but as I said to him, it wouldn't matter anyway, as I don't do anything at all, and I still get it chopped off. So I will continue to be myself. I am not afraid anymore. People who lie, always get it in the end.

I also wanted to ask you, please don't think I am blond, what do you mean by network, network, network, how do I network? This music industry is all new to me.

Thanks for all your help, and the confidence.

If you ever come down to the great land of down under, make sure you come and visit us.Hey!

Networking to me is making friends with people who are in the industry. Whether it be label executives, other songwriters & producers, artist managers, and/or major label recording artists themselves.

Strike up relationships with people. Thats what networking to me is all about. Building/cultivating life long relationships that benefit all involved.

My advice is for you to find out who those people are in Australia and get to know those people. You never know where that journey might take you.

***************

I started my journey as a college radio DJ. From there, I met a producer who was signed to Sony Records and he took me under his wing. He saw that I had potential and wanted to nudge me in the right direction....

Without giving away too many details, to make a long story short, I ended up meeting more people in the industry through friends of friends and sooner than I knew it, I had a lot of friends and a lot of songs.

I've got some pretty good things cooking right now (don't wanna say too much without jinxing myself), but in the next year or so, things look to be headed in the right direction.

:-)

Cool, Greg

I am going for a singing lesson on wednesday, as I want to work on my vocals for "Don't push my button", I can only get better, and I am going to enter in the Telstra road to Tamworth country music competition, in which is held in NSW every year. This will help me meet others, in the industry. But this wont be until August this year. That doesn't matter though, as by the time I get to it, I will be singing with a lot more confidence, and hopefully I will have my album nearly finished.

It does pay you to search, as I have found a singing teacher, that is only charging me $18 for an hour, so I will see what he is like.

Thanks again Greg for taking the time out of your busy schedule, and all the best, I am excited for you. Let us know, first hey, as to your accomplishments. I can't wait!

Hi Michele smile

That was most enjoyable - very catchy and upbeat - although, given the subject matter, almost a little too upbeat? The lyrics are actually quite profound, so my only worry would be they get lost a little in the swing of things. The odd line doesn't quite scan right either - which makes me think the tune could be even better with a change of pace here and there?

That sounds awfully critical - it isn't meant to be. I enjoyed it immensely! smile

From my own experiences, to listen or read something once, I don't always get it. I have to listen to a song many times over, and really listen to the lyrics, to follow the story behind the song.

Example, One of my favorite songs is called "One Shoe" by Lou Bradley (Country music), when I first listened to it, I didn't get it, I listened to it a few more times, then, I got the story of what she was singing about, it is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard, and now one of my many favorites.

Thanks for the critic, and I am pleased you enjoyed it immensely. And, I do get what your saying, but do you get what I am saying.

OK Michele,
I LOVE this. Reminds me of an 80/90s girl group song, and I loved those, too. Plus, I really dig the Aussie accent (dang, I miss Steve Irwin!).

If I have to pick out something, I think the line

"Stronger, wiser" kind of stops the flow slightly.

Something like this...ON MY GAME LIKE NEVER BEFORE...might smooth it out.

Good job all round!

Hi Michele

I've wanted to stop in and say that I love your enthusiasm and hope you can keep the energy you have shown with your first song for the future. It's fun to hear about how the song came about and that you are getting encouragement and great help. Whoever did the recording and music has done a very nice job for you. Good Luck ! jm

Wow, All these messages,

Hi Ben,

Thanks, I am so pleased you liked my song, I am very excited about it, and I am working on a few others at the moment. I really think the smoothing out will come, with practice, I had only sang, the full song a couple of times, before Paul recorded it, I am noticing my voice is getting better, as to more confidence. I was in shock for a while, as I have never sang much my whole life.

Hi Kaley,

It's nice to meet you to, thank you for your lovely compliment, I am pleased you liked my song. It is a very catchy song, and I am currently working on an album now. It will be, a little bit of this, and a little bit of that, as I love all types of music.

Look forward to chatting with you, and getting to know all you JPF's, thanks a bunch.

Hi Joice,

I am pleased you stop by, and had a listen to my song. Paul who helped me with my song, gave me nothing but encouragement. My husband, he is my inspiration, and many others, helped me through a very painful time in my life, I made it. My aim is to write many albums, in the hope it will help others, and myself to continue to live a happy life.

Hi Al

Nice to meet you to. Thank you for your lovely compliments, I am so happy that you all like my song. You all have made my day. I was starting to worry a little, that no one would stop by, and have a listen because of the charts, my song is not about the charts, its about helping others, and others enjoying my song.

Thanks a bunch to all of you,

Michele

Hi all,

I thought I would bring my song back to the front, as I need some help, as to any one knowing any contacts in Australia, who could help me do a film clip for my song.

I got a few prices from a couple, in just my area, and the pricing I was shocked, $5000 - $30,000 Australian for five minutes, well I nearly had heart failure in one hit. I would never be able to afford even the cheapest of approximately $3000, and I know nothing much about computers, or producing my own film clip.

It would be also great if any one could also give me contacts here in Australia, as to produce my song as a single, to start off with, whilst I am currently working on my album.

Thanks a bunch

Hi Michele. Just listened to your song. Its a very positive and serious message that almost gets lost in the very upbeat song. The bounciness of the song had me listening to your voice more as an instrument and I had to go back and read the lyrics again to get everything. Not trying to be over critical here, as a first song, its very good. I wish you much success and hope you find someone to help you with your video. (I'm not good at video editing either)

Hi Henry,

Thanks for taking the time to listen, and overall I am pleased you liked it.

I know from my own experience, listening to different songs, I have to listen to them a few times, to get the song. All my life, I have never been able to listen to a song once or twice, and got the whole picture behind the song straight away, it's what catches me in the beginning, the hook, melody, beat, that I continue to look further into the story behind a song.

I will keep searching Australia, for someone to help me with my song, and my album that I am currently working on, and also for someone to help me do a film clip for my song.

Thanks a bunch

Hey Michele!

I didn't know you had something posted, and I don't always venture over here as much as I should either. This is your first song? Wow, it's really got a great hook and melody. You have a fine singing voice and this lyric is one of strength and that comes through. smile

You are well on your way....can't help you out with the Australia search though.

You are very ambitious, and I think that's wonderful!

Kristi

Hi Kristi

I didn't realize that you hadn't listened to my song. I am very excited about this song, and I have all the confidence in the world. I love this song, not because it's mine, because it is a very strong, catchy song, that could help many listeners.

I have a very painful past history, I am hoping my songs help many others, to get back up and fight for happiness, as they deserve it.

There are many victims that suicide, I want to be able to help others realize, that they can also make it. You never get over what I experienced, but you can still live a happy life, with lots of hard work, as today I still see a counselor, but that's okay, I'm still here.

My husband, has been pulled through all the horror of what its like to marry a victim, and I love him so much, and have nothing but respect for him. He said he will never turn away, as to trust I found it really difficult, with time, we will only continue to get stronger.

My next song, (I wanna(gonna)get over it) is about our experience
as a couple, and what we have been through, and where we are at today, you never ever forget, you just need lots of love, guidance, and the right tools, as to learning to understand the symptoms of what your body is doing, as to triggers, and it is not easy.

I am going to continue to search here in Australia, I am ambitious, and I won't give up, I will get my songs out there.
Finding someone to do a film clip, has shocked me, as to the costs involved for 5 minutes, but I will soldier on.

My aim for my future, is to raise money for Mental Health here in Australia, as to support, for victims partners, family & friends.

Thanks a bunch Kristi, I am pleased you like my song.

Michele,

Well, you sure have a great outlook on life now and I am happy to hear you have risen above the adversity you've had to bear. From what you say in that post alone, you would be a wonderful advocate for others. Getting your messages out there through song is one way to do it and you have the motivation and desire to help others, so you will. smile

We need more postive things in the world! Now...go sing a song! lol
