Some of you already know I'm suffering with alopecia at the moment-all from stress and killer T-cells. Was supposed to have punch biopsies of my scalp today BUT the procedure was cancelled. Why, you ask?
BECAUSE I HAVE NEW BABY FINE PEACH FUZZ HAIR IN EVERY SINGLE BALD SPOT!!
Woo Hoo!!!! I never thought I'd ever get this excited over my hair.

Hey Tricia,
Great news! So glad you were able to avoid that biopsy....it did not sound like fun.
Ironically, my mom called today to say she just found out she suffers from hypothyroidism. Certainly explains why she's been a bit tired lately (which for her means slowing down from 200 mph to 180!)
There must be something in the H-AIR (LOL!).....
Take care, Beth

Beth, I'm ecstatic!! Oh, goodness. Tell you Mom to hang in there. Mark, you got THAT right. I see Heidi's online. Tell her I won't be needing that extra Cher wig after all!! She can pass it to someone who's balder than me......like my brother, for example. LOL! I have heard all the bald jokes I care to hear for awhile.

Great news, Trish:
So happy for you. I'm hoping you will be back at the beauty shop any day now, complaining about the high cost of hair care. LOL!

Tricia! So glad your hair is growing back!! I know how tramatic it is when you start to lose it. I went through something simliar to that when I first became hypothyroid two years ago. I was pretty tramatized because I have always had nice thick hair. Now it is happening again because it's out of whack again...which leads me to.... Beth.... I am sorry your mom was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. It really stinks!! I won't lie, it is a pain in the toosh to deal with. Kind of like the fibromylgia thing. Just so many ailments...the tired thing, thinning hair, weight gain, (ugh!) Heart palpatations, indigestion, etc...do you want me to go on?? Basically your thyroid runs and regulates all your systems and when that starts to get sluggish or die, you have to get the battery running again or everything just slows down and kind of falls apart. It scared the heck out of me. Just getting a correct diagnoses is a relief because then you can start to deal with it and get medication to get it running. You learn so much when you get something. I pray she will get hers straigthened out and find relief! She is not alone. There are millions of men and woman who have it. Expecially after 40. God Bless her!! Lots of love to you all! Hang in there, Tamara. I know how frustrating and embarrasing losing hair can be. Like I said, now I understand why men spend thousands of dollars when their hair thins out. I have a whole new perspective and appreciation for what they're going through and let's not forget the women who do as well. I thought my head was a hopeless case till today. After my appointment I felt like a weight had been lifted.
Beth, I'll keep saying prayers for you and your Mom.

Thanks Tammy,
My mom is a wee bit past 40 -- try 78! -- but she runs around like a 30 year old. She has more energy than anyone I've ever met. She is a gourmet cook, painter, can use power tools...a real renaissance (sp?) woman -- especially since she has no idea how to use the computer! She was brought up to "suck it up" --"don't show your weakness" and all that...if you break your leg, just keep walking with the good one. So as awful as I feel she has this diagnosis (the doc says it's a mild version), I'm delighted that she can blame some of her symptoms on that -- and not have to consider herself falling short somehow. Crazy, huh? I'm not sure I trust her doctor's....so I'll be keeping my nose in her business til things get under control....
Take care, Beth

Bill, if I get that much hair back, I'll wear it with pride. I'm not kidding. All my friends and family were starting to get worried about me. I was about to go have a custom wig made.

Bill O, that is so sweet. I'd sure have taken ear hair OR nose hair at this point. It's not going to be pretty (not that mine ever was before). It's going to grow back white and will be extra fine texture for awhile.

Mike, I have 4 ointments that I apply twice daily and 1 pill that I take twice daily. I'm not kidding when I say I have spent over $600.00 out of pocket for this little bit of fuzz I have on my head that I am so proud of. Worth every penny, too.

That's a deal, Bill. I'd pretty much stopped going anywhere except to work. I've even become a Belly Dance Drop Out. I think I might go back this Thursday, though. I enjoy that class.

Tricia,
Hair, hair, now! Are we now enjoying a folicle frenzy? So glad to hear this! I guess Dolly Parton's wigs are gonna look like nothing compared to your head in a little while.
I'm smiling about your good news.

Great to hair(hear), born again hair, now that's something new, a little hair raising you might say.LOL When I was young(which wasn't yesterday,) I started shaving the fuzz on my face, it kept coming back stronger and stronger, I don't know if that would work on head hair or not. I have lots of hair on my head and other places that I'd rather not have hair. Anyway Tricia, let's have a cheer for hair, may it come in strong and healthy and last for many a year.

Alan, I've never been one to preen or primp in the mornings. My hair is fine and straight. That's why I keep it short. I used to talk so bad about it. Never again, I can tell you!!

Bob, there's nothing like having the living crap scared out of you. Makes you really, really grateful for what you have. The way I see it, I have ALOT. Makes me understand that things can change in an instant. All these things have been humbling.
I will tell you that my dermatologist and my internist are BOTH wonderful. Never once have they made me feel ashamed of being high strung or diminished my perception of things. Truly, they are wonderful.

Oh, NO, Everett. I'll never shave my head. I'm ugly enough with a full head of hair, much less while I've got the mange.

You guys are so sweet. Thanks. I don't mind being called "fuzzy" at all.
Everett, you said it. That's a good line, by the way.
Linda, you have no idea how close I came to needing a wig. I still look rough but I'm seeing more and more fuzz. It's going to take months before my head looks decent again but that's ok. Sam, it's all downhill from here!!!

Critical information regarding the uses of the artificial sweetener Splenda. I have been drinking diet sodas for about 9 years. First it was the ones containing aspertame. Aspertame is classified as a neurotoxin, which is an excitory chemical that can accumulate in your brain. When aspartame breaks down it decomposes into methanol and PKU. That's why I tried to avoid Aspartame.
So, I started drinking diet drinks with Splenda because it seemed safer. I was wondering why drinks sweetened with Splenda kept getting harder and harder to find. It seems that Splenda can cause your thymus gland to shrink by as much as 40%. Splenda also causes short term memory loss and anxiety-just like aspartame.
For those of you that don't understand what the thymus is, it's an organ that makes T-cells which fight infection. Those of you who are battling some form of auto immune disorder (Beth, I know you are and I know that Tamera is.) If you guys are drinking anything with Splenda STOP. It only exascerbates auto immune disorders AND it makes you want to binge eat.
I am learning so much about toxins and their effect on the human body. It's better to just drink a real Coke from time to time rather than drink anything with Splenda or Aspartame in it. They are saying now that saccharin is by far the better alternative as an artificial source of sweetener, for those of you who are diabetics.

I don't drink any sodas if I can help it, too much sugar. I drink mostly water, some tea and cranberry juice. I use to drink a lot of milk.
How's the hair coming? I went and had a brush cut a few days ago, first one in forty plus years.

Hey Tricia hope you are keeping healthy. Thanks for the info. It seems that nowadays just about everything is unhealthy if you believe what you read. LOL
Not reading labels can seriously damage your health. Why oh why are manufacturers allowed to put in all those additives. Even when you read what ingredients are in the thing most of us have not got a clue as to what they are or what they actually do.

WOW! Thanks Tricia for that info. I'm diabetic and have loved the taste of splenda. Looks like I'm going back to Sugar Twin! Thomas... Congrats on the hair... too!

Tricia, thanks for the info. Water, black coffee, an occasional real Pepsi or Coke......breakfast of champions. That sounds good to me. Real sugar supports our farmers around here, and heaven knows they need support.
Yes, how's the hair?!?!? Or as we say in south La., "Mais, dey growing fast, cher!" I sure hope so.
The dreaded 99% humidity days are just around the corner, which, as you know, increases hair tenfold......alas, usually into a puffball of frizz, but what the heck........

Big Jim, I should have posted before and afters. I can't believe my head got so nappy. It's still nappy but it's looking a little bit better now. Give me another month and I won't be ashamed to be out in public. LOL!
"Grits is one of those country-boy words that is both singular and plural-like deer, elk and sheep. I think the singular is appropriate when there's a modifier that makes it clear one is talking about something specific. Like, 'Grits are good for you, but these here grits is tasty.'"~~Joe Wrabek
