So I wrote and produced a song for the AI contest....nope, didnt place.. so now what the hell do I do with it.
www.myspace.com/jimiheath <--its on my myspace
Thats the last time I write for a pitch.. Better to just write what I know, do what I do and if the pitch fits, its all good.

But wait.! I can just send it in next year! Woohoo!

PS
Hope that the word *fat* doesn't offend someone.

That's the spirit, Jimi!
I've sent in the same song the last two years, and it's done just as well both times.
Maybe I'll enter it next year, too!

(edit: I like your song, by the way...)

I still say it is better to try - and know that you did your best - than to ignore an opportunity. The tough thing about the music business is that there are no guarantees....I am sure that something good will come your way smile

There is no way I can say what I'm about to say without it sounding cheesey, and over the top swarmy...

but dang it Jimi...I'm so glad you entered the AI contest cause I did too...and "hanging out" at a website where other songs were posted allowed me to "meet" up with some of the other entrants, you being one of them, and eventually led me to this site where I've already began developing stronger as a writer. I have also benefited by adding you to my myspace and reading your journey...with such insightful blogs about the hapn'in's round N-ville.

Your song was, in the words of my twelve year old daughter, who I let listen to it, hella good!

Regards,
Terrill (who really shouldn't try to speak in a 12 year old's vernacular...it just isn't that fly.)

I don't know if you are retarded or not. I doubt it. But, it appears to me that you are good-looking, have a very nice voice and can write a tune, so..."chin up."

Hi Jimi:

Listened to a few of your MySpace tunes. Good vocals, well recorded and nicely written. Thanks for sharing. Sorry you were "snubbed" by AI but it's no big deal. Keep your nose to the grindstone, network well and it will eventually happen.

Best,

Dave

I entered two years, two different songs.

I won't enter the same song twice. It is my niave and fairy-tale-world belief that they listened to and soundly rejected my two previous entries, thus making re-entering the same song redundant.

If I enter next year, I will compose an entirely new song. I will feel better about it being rejected, somehow!

All the best,

Jamie

Hey Jimi,
It seems to me that being young, beautiful and talented is a far cry from being retarded! I would think you to be insane if you didn't get your talent out there...even if it has gone unnoticed by AI this time.

At least you are good company with many of the other writers who entered great songs!

Best of luck.

Heidi

My intention was not to make fun of people with disabilities. I too have family members with disabilities. It's just an expression I was using to say that I was experiencing a brain fart. Now that I know it was offensive to you, I wont use it here any more.

What exactly became of last year's winning song? Did it get cut by someone? What about the other 20 finalists? The major problem I have with contests is that other than getting a red or blue ribbon, nothing ever becomes of the winning song. It seems to me that if the winning song gets played on the air and millions of people hear it, it would do very well on itunes for the next several weeks. Does AI allow a writer to profit this way from a winning entry? Does it appear on an AI album?

Of course, there may in fact be cases of songs that got major cuts solely as a result of winning a particular contest. I would love for someone to give me specific examples where this happened.

Jimi, Please don't feel guilty. I have a disabled niece who is mentally and physically retarded. I took the term as you meant it in a humorous fashion and was never offended what so ever, but people are different and I guess someone was offended. Live and learn as they say. Ben

Isn't it ironic {to say the LEAST!} That the person that was offended by the term CAN'T SPELL IT!!!! I have a cousin with down syndrome, but I understand the context in which the term was used, and am therefore NOT offended.

Is there a link to this contest?

I am interested to see what it entails. I have found that a majority of so called "contest" end up being nothing but huge ripoffs. Although I am not accusing this of that.

I think it is very important to make sure your music is copyrighted and published before entering contest with the song. If you do recieve airplay you are entitled as the publisher to receieve compensation for the airplay, as well if your song is played in any promotional spots, or pretty much anywhere. Or if the organization used the song on a compilation etc, you will have legal recourse via a proper copyright, and publish.

just my 2 cents. I mean no harm, I have seen a lot of bands get screwed with "battle of the bands" type stuff, and similar contest etc.

Best of luck with all your endevours!
