This was a 'challenge' lyric. We had to find a 'postsecret' ( www.postsecret.com) that struck us – for whatever reason – and write a lyric using the exact quote. One card in particular made me chuckle. Part of it is now the first three lines of the present chorus (in blue). I'd envisaged a cute, bouncy little pop number, but when the British punk-pop-rocker Helen jumped in to take the lyric on board (she wants to add it to four other songs on her EP), I thought "Why not. 5090FAWM is all about expanding horizons, right?" So, for better or for worse: Here it is. Donna http://soundclick.com/share?songid=7813989I Just Want to Get Laid(v1) Romance is fine When you have the time The candlelight and the roses And know the art Of stealing a heart And can strike seductive poses (v2) But now and again When I feel the yen I want to cut to the chase No psychology Just biology And maybe a friendly face Lift So forget about love Because… Chorus I just want to get laid But I’m afraid To say it because I’m a girlMy friends would kick me out fast I’d be a social outcast (v3) I want to feel To know how real Spontaneous lust can be No pretentions About intentions Just set the body free Bridge Guys do their thing with impunity At every opportunity And everyone thinks it’s cool But girls mustn’t break the rule Lift So forget about love Because… Chorus I just want to get laid But I’m afraid To say it because I’m a girlMy friends would kick me out fast I’d be a social outcast © 2009 Donna Devine

Hi Helen and Donna,
I love it!
Reminds me, musically, of "Violent Femmes"

Well that was a fun 1:38 (at least I think that was the length). I think she did a pretty nice job, especially with her phrasing and the way she approached this. It's a good lyric. I especially liked bridge.

Donna and Helen. This works for me. I enjoyed it, perhaps a bit of a musical break in it, to make it longer. Love the accent as it makes it sound more bad a** and girl rocker. The lyrics don't seem to match the order you have them listed. Other than that, nice job!!! It is odd how Calvin had the Nude Vacation, then you have I Just wanna get laid and now I have added the coll. with myself and Calvin- I wanna score. Wishful thinking or summer fever?? Kimberly

Donna,
I've never been the biggest fan of Punk Rock. Not htat I disliked it...I was just ambivilent to it....it's there, that's cool; it isn't there, that's cool, too.
But, I gotta tell ya...I LOVE this one! I fully agree with Kimberrkly about the Britiah accent selling it. I particularly liked the chous! That was so danged cool!
Great write and a really cool song! I also agree that a 20 - 30 second instrumental break would really kick a$$!
Alan

Thank you all for dropping by and giving this a listen. I'm so pleased you've got a kick out of it. I've mentioned to Helen about adding an instrumental break, so I'll leave that up to her. I know that her usual songs all range from 1.5-2 minutes. It's just her style. Short and punchy. By the way, I know SoundClick ratings don't count for anything but it's cracking me up that at the moment the song is at # 10 in (Rock) Punk out of 15,878 songs. Donna

Hi Doona, I LOVED this, it was fantastic ! I guess I'll always be a punk at heart, even though I'm old, fat and establishment these days I've got a lyric that would really suit Helen's style if she reads this and wants to drop me a line ? Regards, Keith

Hi Donna, Well, I didn't see this coming! What a hoot! Never been much into punk but it does bounce along rather nicely. And I'm not sure what other genre could pull this off other than maybe death metal! You are all over the genre map, and that's why I like your writing so much. It's like having a split personality and never knowing who's going to show up! Ricki

Nice job on this. Remeniscant of some of the female punk bands in the 80's, and modernly kind of like Amy whinehouse, or Garbage, nice hook.

Keith, Stan, Ricki, Joice, and Jersey2008, thanks for listening and for your kind words. Glad you all got a kick out of this. Ricki, I just love pushing my genre boundaries. And I love your 'split personality' comment. Donna

LOL - dig it Yes, Helen's accent is perfect for it The short and rapid delivery matches the message in the lyric! Now, Donna, you need a one minute song called "I just want a cig"..... Scott

Dan, I hope you're all right now. Scott, so pleased you dig it. To my great amusement, the song is now up to # 6 on Soundclick in Punk>Rock. Donna

Sexy song!
Love the lyrics Donna. It's stimulating to think of this mindset in a woman. Catchy tune with the right vocal accent (adds to the charm).
It would have been a great follow-up to Cyndi Lauper's "Girls Just Want To Have Fun"
Best, John

Well DM, I've seen this title floating around...but I wasn't sure -- being a dainty little thing and all -- if I'd be able to appreciate it...LOL!! BUT (no surprise), I loved it! Reminded me of the B-52's a bit. I understand for the genre it's going to go at a pretty good clip, but it's almost a shame because your lyrics are especially good on this Donna. This verse is spectacular: But now and again When I feel the yen I want to cut to the chase No psychology Just biology And maybe a friendly faceStill, I did enjoy the overlap treatment and as everyone has mentioned, Helen does a sensational job selling that hook. What was that hook again? Only kidding....you drive that sucker home big time!! So thanks for pushing your own envelope Donna. I can't wait to hear all of your FAWM songs on one thread.... You must be getting tired though.... Cheers, Beth

John, Beth, and Glynda, thanks heaps for giving this bit of fun a listen. I'm glad you enjoyed it. By the way, Helen has just asked me to write an extra verse and she'll add an instrumental. YAY! Donna

I haven't listened yet. I just saw the title over in the "what's happening box" and it said co-write or something so I thought, "this could be interesting if it was written by a guy and a girl."

Donna and Helen, Well I just love this. I always think that any song that is worth it's weight must be a tortured experience. I don't think that any more. If you guys wipped this out you must keep working together. This is a treasure.
The verses were wonderful but the chorus is unbelievable. Really.
My only nit Donna is the bridge. My comment is, and trust me on this, the grass is always greener.
Tom
