Hi We are having a bit of a ropey summer here at the mo, so I'm still hoping to emulate some of the song's activities - Just thought I'd revive this to try and get the sun to come out This is a co write with Billy Simons, thanks to Alison for helping out with the vocals, drinking and eating! Cheers Play Loud Nige Until The Summer Ends (Simons/Quin) [Verse 1] Steaks and dogs are on the grill The girls are by the pool Sitting here with an ice cold beer Tryin’ to keep my engine cool Summer heat is beating down On my sun-soaked face I must admit from where I sit It’s hard to beat this place [Chorus Short] Gimme a brew with a wedge of lime To quench my thirst in the summertime Singing and dancing with my friends Until the summer ends [Verse2] Johnny’s passed out on the lawn With a cocktail in his hand His girlfriend’s rolling in the hay With the drummer from his band Three chicks are skinny dippin’ The crowd is going wild And I think that squeeze with the double d’s Just winked at me and smiled [Chorus] Gimme a brew with a wedge of lime To quench my thirst in the summertime My Doc says I’ve got a hollow leg So save me a seat by the keg Crank up the tunes, enjoy the sights Infringing on the neighbors rights Singing and dancing with my friends Until the summer ends [Verse 3] Soon we’ll go our separate ways As the dog days disappear With a tearstained eye I’ll say goodbye To my best time of the year I hate to wait the 9 long months Autumn, Winter, Spring But I’ll bide my time on the boss's dime Till summer’s here again [Chorus] © 2010

hey Nigel, Yep, that's a fun song. Crit ? I'd grunge up the pulse guitar more ( real dirty ) and put a mandolin in there as well ? Well, there's contrast for you. Drums need to be more upbeat, phrased, and thrashy. Where's the do-woop girls ? That would fit well too. ( I put my hand up for auditioning them for the "rolling in the hay" part, when you do the video. Catchy ! It's worth putting some work into this one. cheers, niteshift

If I could go back to 1964 I'd change my name to Brian Epstein and sign you up. This would have been a hit in the 60's. Fantastic song. It's a hit for me now.

Howdy Nigel. Sounds very {British Invasion) like. I love it. Catchy melody and lots of picture images. Great job. I'm gonna have to have a few more listens. I like the backing vocals as well. This is my kind of music.

Hello everyone,
I was pleasantly surprised to come across this one, which is a collaboration between Nige and myself. In fact, I wasn't even aware that Nige was a member until the last few days. Like I recently said, I've been a member for several years but just started to actively participate.
I'm pleased to hear the positive feedback on this one. I was the primary lyricist on this project, although Nige made many lyrical contributions as well, including the re-structuring of the chorus to reflect a different rhyme scheme. Other than that, it's all Nige and his accompanying vocalist, Alison.
know Nige is considering revisiting this one at some point so the more input the better. Along those lines, I've been toying around with some lyrical tweaks as well. We'll see what happens.
Thanks for taking a look!
Billy

Hi Nigel & Billy, What a fun song! Catchy music throughout. Nice vocals too. Lyrically, the only thing that I would change is the second chorus. I would keep it short like the first one. It's easier for the listener to remember and sing along to because this is definitely a sing-along. Then use the longer chorus at the end because it does have cool lines in it. Normally, I would get all feminist on you about the double d line but seeing as how it's summer, I just don't give a rat's ass! Ricki

Hey Nigel,
This is rockin'...loved it! Alas, it's raining atm up here at the beach...so this is just what the doctor ordered to remind me how fun summer is supposed to be.
Lots of great and clever details....loved verse two in particular.
Thanks for sharing!!

This is great. The writing is solid. My criticism is minor: take it up another notch. To me, the song feels a tad restrained and neatly packaged. The singing is great.
Thanks for sharing and keep it up,
Mike

Hi Nige Well done all around.... Fun & clever, nice throwback style. If pitching is being considered I'd try a different vocal version on top of this version. Just better pitch overall and a more modern contemporary voice combo. Then pitch it to TV because this would be a GREAT TV commercial song for MANY a summer product.. seriously Nice Work!

I think it's pretty good guys. I think you should maybe put the oos from the last chorus in all the choruses. I also think the harmony vocal might be more effective if you dropped it out in a few more places. Just something to think about.
Very cool retro tune.
Peace,
Ian

Hi Mike D – Thanks for your comments, yep, take it up a notch seems to be a recurring theme. Stevie – glad you enjoyed, and thanks for the compliment Mike C – Well thanks you, that is praise indeed, actually my vocal is the only one I did (it was the same on a more stripped down demo) maybe now I’ve been singing it a bit I should do another take! Hi Ian – yes, both Alison and I had more ideas for harmonies on this. It’s funny but once I start experimenting there are so many possibilities. Well thanks everybody. I would love to invite you somewhere sunny to make the vid! Cheers Nige PS. Billy can get the beers in

This is closer to Beachboys than anything Europop, great 1970's sound, just 40 years out of date. It is a good song and very happy and carefree feeling to it but I can imagine that it will appeal to 12 year old girls rather than serious adult listeners.

Billy and Nige, I love the retro sound of this. I agree with Mike Caro, it would be a great commercial tune for...I'm actually thinking a beer commercial!

I think I would call this summer light. It's pleasant enough but lack that kick I was looking for. Get that guitar up in the mix!
I would have liked to hear even more harmony on the chorus, a wall sound sound with "dit, dit dit-its"--can you hear that?

That was a fun listen Nigel and brings back memories - nice ones.
Makes me think of a British or Australian Beach Boy variety.

Thanks Calvin – glad you liked Hi Robert – horns eh? Could be one helluva party Hi Zeek – summer light? So you want the full calorie version – yep, I definitely hear room for more harmonies. Scott – glad you are digging it Hi Mackie – yes, somehow I don’t think the mp3/smartphone version will work so well Doug – Glad you enjoyed the listen Thanks to everyone for listening and commenting Nige

Hey Nigel, Ya got me laughing mate. The scene that comes to mind is a whole bunch of Poms partying out in Majorca, looking like coconut ice with a beer in hand. I'd work this one up further, and send it to every beachside resort in Spain. Instant winner ! cheers, niteshift PS - Like Bob, I hear stabbed brass in this one too. Also, just a couple of BPM faster.
