O.K, I'll play along. I can't really pick a "best" song, but this one has gotten the most airplay. I'm still "computer stupid" and don't know how to cut and paste links, so go to www.soundclick.com/bobcushing click on "I Need A Lover {Not A Mother}"

This is our current best song in terms of feedback received and competition success.

LET IT GO by NORTHFIELD

Lyrics:
What I'm meant to be
Only I can see
Now I understand
What it is & who I am
I don't wanna be
Something to take or leave
And if I wait for life will it wait for me, will I live at all

Let it go let it go if you wanna be free
Everyday everyday you can let the world see
Yeah i know yeah i know that it wont be easy
So here we go

Fear is the enemy
It makes you believe
That you cannot be what you wanted to be

Let it go let it go if you wanna be free
Everyday everyday you can let the world see
Yeah i know yeah i know that it wont be easy
So here we go

What I'm meant to be
Only I can see
Now I understand
What it is & who I am
Every time you're on your own
You can feel your not alone
And you might as well believe
You can let it go

Let it go let it go if you wanna be free
Everyday everyday you can let the world see
Yeah i know yeah i know that it wont be easy
So here we go
Let it go let it go if you wanna be free
Everyday everyday you can let the world see
Yeah i know yeah i know that it wont be easy
So here we go

What im meant to be
Only I can see
Now i understand
What it is & who i am

White Collar Man

WHITE COLLAR MAN

(Spoken)White collar man says he wants my vote.
He says,We're all brothers. We are in the same boat.
Is it true? Well I think I say not.
The other day I saw him sailing his yacht.

His dental work his insurance pays. That's nice.
I've no insurance and I pay twice the price?
I have a job where I don't get a raise.
The politician votes himself higher pays.

(Chorus)
Oh(Harmony)White Collar Man
(Spoken)He says he'll save my day.
(Harmony)White Collar Man
(Spoken)He'll help me make my way.
(Harmony)White Collar Man
(Spoken)He don't understand. I know
(Harmony)White Collar Man
(Spoken)He's gonna use me again.

I can't get credit so I rent to own. That's nice.
I then find out I paid twice the price. Again?
The businessman claims he's doing a favor.
He's downsizing all the fruits of my labor.

Oh(Harmony)White Collar Man
(Spoken)He says he'll save my day.
(Harmony)White Collar Man
(Spoken)He'll help me make my way.
(Harmony)White Collar Man
(Spoken)He don't understand. I know
(Harmony)White Collar Man
(Spoken)He's gonna use me again.
(Harmony)Oo-oo-oo
White Collar Man
Oo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo
White Collar Man
Oo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo
White Collar Man
Oo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo

White collar man says for me he'll pray
For forgiveness though I'll have to pay.
His services us'lly come with a fee.
What ever happened to giving freely?

(Harmony)White Collar Man
(Spoken)He says he'll save my day.
(Harmony)White Collar Man
(Spoken)He'll help me make my way.
(Harmony)White Collar Man
(Spoken)He don't understand. I know
(Harmony)White Collar Man
(Spoken)He's gonna use me again.
(Harmony)Oo-oo-oo
White Collar Man
Oo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo
White Collar Man
Oo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo
White Collar Man
Oo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo
(Harmony)White Collar Man
(Spoken)He'll prob'ly buy this song.
(Harmony)White Collar Man
(Spoken)He will not know what's wrong.
(Harmony)White Collar Man
(Spoken)He won't know I'm fakin'.
(Harmony)White Collar Man
(Spoken)I ain't even Jamaican man.

(Harmony)White Collar Man
Oo-oo-oo

Well, the weirdofreak thing is really moer about the subject matter rather than the music, itself. But, here it is:
"Sheila of the Worms"

If you wanna hear somthing where the music is a bit more freaky, there's another one that I can link you to. But that one is the one that I was referring to.

Okay, so here is the song that I think I was probably thinking of when it came to the "weirdofreak" thing:
Hop on Pop - "Ashes on the Water"

Breathing in the soot and smoke and
Ashes on the water can't get you back
Look back to the side you came from
You'd really better like it where you're at
The end of a new beginning
Beginning to think about the way things were
No regrets
You just can't help wondering

Now you're wandering through the ashes, so black
Ashes on the water, so black
It'll take a miracle to get you back

Sifting through the soot and sand and
Ashes on the water washed up on the shore
You burn your hand on a glowing ember
That's what you get for coming back for more
Or less in the same position
The same situation with a different view
Regret sets in
You need to get back

Now you're wading through the ashes, so black
Ashes on the water, so black
It'll take a miracle to get you back

And as you're wading through
The ashes stick to you
And they burn your skin
That's what you get for diving in
You make it back to shore
Couldnt fight any more
And as it fades to black
You feel the ashes on the water so black
Lapping at your ankles, at your back
It took a miracle to get you back

Coming to, your vision's blurry
Wipe the soot and sand away and grimace at your burns
Your hand closes 'round a book of matches
If you need to you can keep them far back
Making ashes on the water, so black
It took a miracle to get you back...

Helen Cooper

I just joined, but Roy had this song of mine done by Mike Caro a while back.

It's my Fav for now.

'That's All It Takes'

Roy made the video with Mike staring in it and I am so proud of it and of him.

http://musicianstogether.com/video/3969ANOB79G5/Thats-All-It-Takes--New-Video

I hope you enjoy

Helen

Thats All It Takes

Verse1
WHEN YOU'RE DOWN AND FEELIN' LOW,
AND YOU KNOW IN YOUR HEART,
THAT YOU GOT NO WHERE TO GO.
LATE AT NIGHT, BEEN SLEEPING ROUGH,
WELL, YOU KNOW LITTLE RUN-A-WAY,
YOU'VE GOT IT TOUGH.

Chorus
IS THERE ANY ONE WHO'LL UNDERSTAND,
A KIND WORD, MAYBE A HELPING HAND.
COS, ALL YOU NEED IS A BREAK,
JUST ONE, JUST ONE, THAT'S ALL IT TAKES.

Verse2
WHEN YOU FEEL CLOSE TO DESPAIR,
OH, IF YOU ONLY KNEW SOMEONE
WHO WOULD REALLY CARE.
I GUESS YOU FOUND, THERE'S NO WORK AROUND,
WHEN YOUR PENNILESS,
HOMELESS, YOUR BED IS THE GROUND.

Chorus
IS THERE ANY ONE WHO'LL UNDERSTAND,
A KIND WORD, MAYBE A HELPING HAND.
COS, ALL YOU NEED IS A BREAK,
JUST ONE, JUST ONE, THAT'S ALL IT TAKES.

I GUESS THAT'S ALL IT TAKES.

Instumental

Bridge
WELL I KNOW, JUST HOW YOU FEEL,
YOU WANNA WAKE UP, AND FIND THAT IT ISN'T REAL,
YOU CLOSE YOUR EYES, THIS IS NO DREAM,
COS THE WIND AND THE RAIN ON YOUR FACE,
MAKE YOU WANNA SCREAM.

Chorus
IS THERE ANY ONE WHO'LL UNDERSTAND,
A KIND WORD, MAYBE A HELPING HAND.
COS, ALL YOU NEED IS A BREAK,
JUST ONE, JUST ONE, THAT'S ALL IT TAKES.

JUST ONE, JUST ONE, Just one, Just one

THAT'S ALL IT TAKES.

I GUESS THAT'S ALL IT TAKES.

YOU KNOW THAT'S ALL IT TAKES

I GUESS THAT'S ALL IT TAKES.

Probably not my best--but THE ONE I LIKE:

http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=10248295

DIVIDED BY TWO
2009 Mackie Humphries

V1
Once our hearts... beat like one.
With laughter in every room
Then your old flame fanned the coals
You tried to lie and lost control.

V2
Your lying eyes said its too late
No way to trust a thing you say
Things will never be the same
Divided by two brings on the pain.

CH
Divided by two - is a hurtin thing
Both of our hearts - beat outta sync
Now its too late - to ever change
Divided by two - brings on the pain.

.......................SOLO........................

BR
The love we had - has slipped away
In time the scars - will be erased
Now our loves gone - without a trace

CH
Divided by two - is a hurtin thing
Both of our hearts - beat outta sync
Now its too late - to ever change
Divided by two - brings on the pain.

BR
The love we had - has slipped away
In time the scars - will be erased
Now our loves gone - without a trace

TAG
Divided by two brings on the pain
Divided by two.............................

Thanks Roy--

My young daughter tells me this is my best song:
http://steverobinson.bandcamp.com/track/the-ride-of-our-lives
Of course, she's supplying some of the background vocals on it, so she's probably a little biased...

I FEEL SO COUNTRY
http://www.jimcolyer.com/sitebuilder/flash/player?f=/music/flash/playlist.xml%3Ft%3D279

I eat supper every night at the Cracker Barrel
When I step out, I dress in western apparel
An American girl, just like the 4th of July
I Feel So Country I could die

I know every song Shania ever sang
I can't resist that good old country twang
I wave my flag every 4th of July
I Feel So Country I could die

Well, I'm looking for a man who's looking for a girl
Who knows just how she feels
Looking for a man who's looking for a girl
Who's looking for something real

I grew up on a farm, I learned how to hoe and plow
Come on, city boy, I'll show you how
When I love a man, I never say goodbye
I Feel So Country I could die
Oh yeah

solo

Well, I'm looking for a man who's looking for a girl
Who knows just how she feels
Looking for a man who's looking for a girl
Who's looking for something real

I grew up on a farm, I learned how to hoe and plow
Come on, city boy, I'll show you how
When I love a man, I never say goodbye
I Feel So Country I could die
I said I Feel So Country I could die

I don't think I've written my best song yet... LOL! You've had a great idea though and it's fun to read the lyrics and attempt to use the links provided for so many JPFrs. Thanks, as always for your inventive ideas.

Best,

Dave

"Golden California Girl"

is the name of the song that I get good feedback on and that was picked up by a publisher within two weeks of me sending it out.

http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_songInfo.cfm?bandID=1080803&songID=9323825

Golden California Girl 1997/2010 Doug Buche

Refrain:

Golden California girl you dance into my world,
but you say you never danced before.

First Verse:

Pretty, sparkling, azure eyes, capture my smile.
Your ears hear more from me than heard before.
Your touch warms me into a steady growing fire.

Refrain:

Golden California girl, you dance into my life,
but you say you never danced before.

Second Verse:

Happy, bubbling, winsome sighs sing for me a song.
My fears fly far from me than heretofore.
Your kiss cleans me in this which we desire.

Refrain:

Golden California girl, you dance into my heart,
but you say you never danced before.

Third Verse and Ending:

Dance for me - dance for me, dance for me,

dance for me some more.

Dance for me, dance for me, dance for me,

Dance into my soul.

Hi JPF Friends,

Here's one titled "There Must Be A Reason" which was high on the SoundClick Charts for months a good while back.

Jan this is beautiful. Simple elegance. Intro very appetizing. The vocalist is WOW! Does he work out of certain demo studio? Forgive me, this probably isn't the place to do a critique but boy this is really a great song and it might just be me, but I thought it would shine even brighter if you moved up the Chorus sooner. My ears were ready for the climax of the Chorus sooner. Your Chorus (which is wonderful) doesn't play till 2:00 into the song. If you did that, you could either get rid of one of the weaker verses or keep all your verses and turn one into a bridge. Forgive my boldness.

Thanks for sharing,
Lynn smile

I have a number of 'favourites'. smile

One I return to again and again, though - when I'm in a certain kind of mood - is this one.

FAR AWAY
Copyright 2006 OpenMikeMusic

V1

feelin down,
kickin at
a coke can
on the ground.
Wondrin' why
your not still around,
Is it what I say,
that sent you
so far away?

where's my heart?
i swear I had it
from the start
somehow it was
taken in
the dark
where I
use to pray

Now its so far,
Far away

bridge

Outta sorts
outta touch
so far away
I dont see much
but scattered dreams
pieces of the truth

my words are rough
eyes are mean
I've seen more
than most men seen
and why I'm so
far away
from you.

V3

where's my soul,
it wanders off
I cant say where
it goes
to a place, my
god only knows,
must pray today

cause my soul's
so far away

solo

V4

and I dream
a time before
my heart was cold
and mean
love was everywhere
or so it seemed
but not today
cause my heart is
so far
away

my soul has
drifted away

my love's
so far
away

I don't normally do things like this, but this song has a special meaning, for too many reasons to mention. It was included on a D.C. duo's, "Water's Edge" debut CD...Sadly, we lost the lead singer shortly after the CD came out. So I'm posting it as a tribute to Galactic Annie Sucher.

EAST TEXAS

The diner is closing, the cars on the freeway
can be seen from the window as she's stacking the chairs.
Following dreams, they're headed for somewhere.
Somewhere is anywhere other than here.

And nobody told her that the cost of growing older
would be dreams that don't die, though out of kindness they should.
But she watches the tail lights, headed for bright lights,
watching them leaving and wishing she could.

And the moon it is rising tonight on East Texas,
so close you could touch it if you dared to believe.
But a moon full of dreams is still gone in the morning
and whispers of wonders is all that it leaves.

The job pays her bills, and puts food on the table,
clothes on the children and flowers on the grave
of the young man whose picture sits under the counter
where he still holds the family he's left her to raise.

And the moon it is rising tonight on East Texas,
so close you could touch it if you dared to believe.
But a moon full of dreams is still gone in the morning
and whispers of wonders is all that it leaves.

Katy are you ready, I've locked up the cash box
calls a voice from the back room in a fatherly tone.
It looks like a full moon, let's walk out together.
By choice there is no one who would walk out alone.

And the moon it is rising tonight on East Texas,
so close you could touch it if you dared to believe.
But a moon full of dreams is still gone in the morning
and whispers of wonders is all that it leaves.

This song was inspiried by an old woman I seen panhandling some time ago;she was obviously not right in the head. I watched the way people reacted to her, some with indifference, some with disdain, others gave her money, and others were entertain by her plight. I wondered how she wound up there. I decided to write a tune about her and give her a name and a history.

Steve Biederman and I wrote this together on the phone. We laughed so much. its a wonder we were able to write. I think thats why this song is my favorite that Ive written.

Mad Maddy
Words and Music by Biederman/Gaines 2012

A home coming queen in the 50s
Madelyn was a sight to see
The man of her dreams joseph Mc gee
Was the captain of the football team

They married right out of high school
She gave herself to Joseph that night
Ten years of bliss then terrible a twist
A house fire took josephs life

Chorus
Now they just call her Mad Maddy
That old woman with the toothless grin
When she downs a pint and closes her eyes
Shes dancing with joseph again

(Instrumental)

Madelyn is now pushing 80
Panhandling to buy more wine
Addled and broke but the wine offers hope
For a heart stuck in another time

She knows that they call her mad Maddy
But really she dont mind at all
If they give up their change they can use any name
The wine lets her love come to call

Bridge
He appeared soon after the funeral
Though Madelyn knew Joseph was dead
She drank to get her nerves steady
And danced with his ghost instead

Chorus
Now they just call her Mad Maddy
That old woman with the toothless grin
When she downs a pint and closes her eyes
Shes dancing with joseph again

Tag
The wine kicks in
She flashes her grin
And dances with Joseph again

Dance Maddy
Dance Maddy
Dance Maddy
Dance

Cheers
Paul

Nice Paul.A song for a down and out lady as opposed as one for the rich and famous.Good for you.

Lyrics
Cold Dead Hands Wallace Anderson

1.
My America was founded
on faith, freedom and liberty
She's my legacy
so don't come 'round here talkin' 'bout takin'
these guns away from me
'cuz they keep me free

PC.
I stand with the Bill and the Constitution
and the rights they Guarantee

Chorus
So, you won't take my gun
'til you can pry it from
My cold dead hands
my cold dead hands

2.
I'll protect my family, my home and my nation
from harm and tyranny
and you too if need be
so don't come 'round here treadin' on me now
or you might get a lesson
from 'ole Smith and Wesson

PC
I'll keep my Bible, my rifle, my shotgun and my
Three- fifty- seven

Chorus

Okay, I'll play...with the standard disclaimer about not having a favorite one of my "children" and today's opinion being subject to change.

Not In My Backyard
(Kurt Fortmeyer/Neal Guinane)
Dad Zone Music ASCAP

I hear tell they think they're doing well
Up on Wall Street in New York
But that's so not the view I've got
Out here on my porch
Dog's running rabbits through the weeds
Growing up around a truck that hasn't cranked in days
And I ain't sweating at no factory job
Just settin' up here in the shade

I got no reason for leaving here for anyway
It don't matter if that truck won't start
Somebody somewhere is making hay
Just not in my backyard

They closed the textile mills in Caroline
And the steel mills in PA
You'll only get connected to some Indian guy
If you pick up the phone to complain
Big boxes killed off the Mom & Pops
China owns the American Dream
The King of Beers belongs to Belgium now
There ain't no local economy

I got no reason for leaving here for anyway
It don't matter if that truck won't start
Somebody somewhere is making hay
Just not in my backyard

How they sleep at night the devil knows
And he shipped my job off to Mexico
I hear the money's good if you're a CEO
But a working man's got nowhere to go

I got no reason for leaving here for anyway
It don't matter if that truck won't start
Somebody somewhere is making hay
Just not in my backyard
Yeah somebody somewhere is making hay
Just not in my backyard

Maybe not my favorite of mine but one of my favourites due to many reasons, and one being that it has hints and call to many other songs of mine in recurrent sentences that then repeat and quote in many others. It is very much a mood state I step into often... in the mist

I'm thinking Kymberly Bryson's voice is best suited to my songs. Problem is, she got married and I haven't seen her since 2012.

Barry. I started this topic years ago so visitors and new members could hear songs that may have long gone from the current topics. I leave it to the song writers to decide which song to list. Obviously clicking on a song to have a listen will take the listener to members own site or their other songs.

I hope that explains...

Barry,
When you make another post on something it bumps the link to the top of the list. I have lots of "Best Original Songs" so you will have to just pick one. The Link to the Web Site where some of my songs are posted is on the Industry Board NEW WEB SITE but here it is again. http://www.geocities.ws/fiverosesmusicgroup/ under Rays Music. So give me an opinion on HERE IN THE COUNTRY if you go there. Or any other of the 15 songs posted.

Oh, in case anyone is interested it appears nobody is looking for songs out there as I have been searching for opportunities and have found none. Keep writing.

You are correct. Any songwriter OUT THERE that thinks anybody is going to sing their song is drinking the cool age. It just can't be done except in a million to one scenario. Don't ever quit your day job IF you have one....lol It's all fools gold...
