Here's a thread where you can add a link to what YOU believe to be YOUR best or favorite song of the moment.
It can be an 'audio link' or 'video link' if your song is in video format, and you are particularly proud of the video.
They can be collaborations or totally by one person.
Songs must be complete and finished, but not necessary Demo quality.
Words, music and a voice are fine as are instrumentals if that is what you do.
This is not a competition and YOU CAN COME BACK at any time and change your song choice if you create what you feel is a better song.
The whole point of this is that visitors can come and have a listen to some songs from the great songwriters who frequent or have frequented these boards.
They don't have to be JPF created as long as one of the writers or the vocalist is a member of JPF.
So Folks be your own judge here.
And no ADDED comments please on songs or those posting, although comments on the topic are welcome.
If you want to say something then a PM to the person will keep this topic reasonable clutter free. Some links may not work, if the writers have removed or relocated their songs.or changed their minds.
I will start by adding what I believe to be my best song at this moment in time, although I do have some close seconds.
Remember folks, COME BACK at any time and change your song choice if you create what you feel is a better song.

'You Have To Kiss A Lot Of Frogs To Find A Prince'
I have some good songs IMO, but this is my latest song which has become my favorite for now.
A Songwriters Dream (Gone Is The Wonderland) is a co-write between myself and Jane Karwoski aka JaneK
I hope that others enjoy it as well.
God Bless to all
Roy
A Songwriters Dream (Gone Is The Wonderland) (c) Roy Cooper - Jane Karwoski 2019
lyrics
Verse 1: When I get up for work It's midway through the day Wish I could stay in bed But I have my bills to pay
verse2 I get home late at night From a gig in Santa Fe Singing to an empty club To keep the wolf away
Chorus1 Gone is the Wonderland I would dream of as a child Singing with a famous band To a crowd who's going wild
verse 3: Now when I have a dream I dream I'm writing songs I have my own publisher And I'm winning music gongs
Chorus1 Gone is the Wonderland I would dream of as a child Singing with a famous band To a crowd who's going wild
bridge I'm strumming on my guitar and have a drum machine Knocking out some tunes, sounding really mean A hundred sheets of paper, screwed up on the floor Rejected words I've written, still I'm writing more
verse 4 Now it's come together Another finished track Feeling really shattered It's time to hit the sack
verse 5 But before I fall asleep I'll play the song that I wrote Analyzing every word Replaying every note
Chorus1 Gone is the Wonderland I would dream of as a child Singing with a famous band To a crowd who's going wild
Tag outro Now when I have a dream I hear my latest song I'll dream it's a massive hit And I'll win myself a gong.....
This was a tough call for me. My native language is English, but I also write and sing in French, and one of my best songs, IMHO, is in French.
For this thread, I've chosen a song in English, a song for which I rerecorded the vocals a few months ago, since I was never happy with the original version. I'm not a huge Twilight fan, but I really felt for the character of Jacob and how he pined for Bella, the main character.
Twilight falls Like blood around My feet You know my secret But here comes one more
It's what I could never tell Tell you straight It's what I could never Not....not while you're with him
That I'm captivated That I'm captivated You draw me in your shades Of black and white Captivated When you leave me, leave me Hanging, hanging on your maybes
And you're not the most beautiful And he never sees your real happiness But fascination grips me, grips me In its fist And I could be What you want me to be And I would let you Think without me And most of all I'd never hurt you Like he did.....
All I want is for you to fade into me Like you do with him With me With him With me With him With me
I'm not sure there is a "best"--opr maybe the best just hasn't been wrote yet. Which one(s) I'm partial to changes from week to week, too. Right now, I'm partial to my song about the stalker, "In the Shadows, I'll Be Watching You." Why? Not sure.
1. You put whiskey in your coffee when you first get up, While the T.V. dinner is still warming up, And dress yourself like theres no one around to see; You stare at your desk from time to time, Waiting for that clock to give you back your life, And I wish you could share it with somebody else besides me.
CHORUS: In the shadows, Ive been watching you, Keeping track of everything you do; Wherever you go, wherever youll be, Youre going to have a little company; In the shadows, Ill be watching you.
2. The bandll be playing at the bar tonight, And they dont sound bad if youre standing outside, And if theywashed the windows, I might get to see you dance; Youll leave alone, not walking right, And Ill follow tmake sure you get home all right, And well both get a little shut-eye if we get the chance.
CHORUS: In the shadows, Ive been watching you, Keeping track of everything you do; Wherever you go, wherever youll be, Youre going to have a little company; In the shadows, Ill be watching you.
3. I fantasize what it might be like If we both got introduced sometime; Im really not sure what sorts of things I could say; The pink lace panties are the ones that look best? Youve been drinking too much, and you need more rest? I probly just ought to stay quiet, and out of your way.
CHORUS: In the shadows, Ill be watching you, Keeping track of everything you do; Wherever you go, whatever youll be, Youre going to have a little company; In the shadows, Ill be watching you.
REPEAT LAST LINE OF CHORUS TO END

Feedback I've gotten seems to converge on three songs that others consider my best: "Arizona", "Opening Day", and "Still Making It Up As We Go".
They probably are. Still, I find that I'm often happiest with something recent. So I'll avoid the issue by not posting my best song. Instead, my favorite song from 2010.
It's really a medley of two short songs that were both posted separately this year. I've decided to make them a medley for my next project because they go together on a couple of different levels:
Over the Moon For You/Everything's Coming Out Blue is here:
I'll stick the lyric below. Thanks again to Niteshift for the sax part on the first song
Scott
Over the Moon For You/Everything's Coming Out Blue (c) 2010 by S.W. Campbell
Sidewalk busker sees me bouncing along He tips his hat, grabs his axe, starts singing our song A little girl with flowers tosses me a rose And the hustler at the bus stop gives me five down low Everyone sees whats true Im over the moon for you
Grocer on the corner tosses me a plum A couple cops on horses raise their thumbs And the beat box angels shout and wave hello While the shell game grifter winks a way to go Everyone sees whats true Im over the moon for you
And the music of a saxophone drifts up from the underground How could I ever think that was a mournful sound?
A red faced cabbie lays on his horn Cause Im not really watching where Im going He shouts, Buddy live to see her for one more day He grins and shakes his head as he speeds away Everyone sees whats true Im over the moon for you
I planted a rose as pink as your nose But then it bloomed a peculiar hue Since youve been gone, everythings coming out blue
I think the cherry trees feeling just like me Cause it bears an oddly colored fruit Since youve been gone, everythings coming out blue
Blue is the thread that weaves its way through empty days Blue is the feeling I cant shake when youre away
And the fireflies still shine their light But with a color out of true Since youve been gone, everythings coming out blue
Blue is the thread that weaves its way through empty days Blue is the feeling I cant shake when youre away
And the whippoorwill on my window sill Sings his mournful tune Since youve been gone everythings coming out blue
When I think of the ones That have all gone before The brave and the young Guarding freedom's door
If we only believe In the heartfelt truth Then it's time we agree It's Red White and So Blue
Red for bravery's blood, shed on foreign shores By men and women, for the land they adore White for hope so pure, never looking back On young ones' dreams and unlived plans And one for wives and mothers, the flag's presented to In the nation's colors of, Red, White and So Blue
Good men have always fought To lend a helping hand Their country came first As they drew lines in the sand
So the next time you see Fireworks in the sky Think of those who've kept us free While this good nation cries
Red for bravery's blood, shed on foreign shores By men and women, for the land they adore White for hope so pure, never looking back On young ones' dreams and unlived plans And one for wives and mothers, the flag's presented to In the nation's colors of, Red, White and So Blue
Remember how our children fall As the somber notes are played While you bow your heads....recall The truths in the colors that we wave
Red for bravery's blood, shed on foreign shores By men and women, for the land they adore White for hope so pure, never looking back On young ones' dreams and unlived plans And one for wives and mothers, the flag's presented to In the nation's colors of, Red, White and So Blue
Can't find the stairway to 'heaven'...but I know where the elevator is.
Each of us has cause to think with deep gratitude of those who have lighted the flame within us" - Albert Schweitzer.
Lying here feeling all the things I feel makes me crazy The fighting echoes in this big ol' house almost daily But tonight I'm alone, so I pick up the phone and I hear you softly say, "The lights are down low and I need you so... Come dance with me"
"Come and dance with me Come lay your body close to mine" "Come and dance with me And be my lover for all time" I know it's wrong I start thinking 'bout the vows I failed to keep Then you whisper again, the music begins "Come dance with me"
Driving home, the tears start to fall, and I'm wondrin' how? Been so long since I touched my man He's like a stranger now Why can't he see that it's him I need If he would only say out loud, "The lights are down low and I need you so... Come dance with me"
(Bridge) What happened to the man that I knew who made me his world? I guess he was wrong Now it's all gone and I'm not a girl...anymore
"Come and dance with me Come lay your body close to mine" "Come and dance with me And be my lover for all time" But he wants to fight and criticize About just who he wants me to be And I have a choice until I hear your voice... "Come dance with me" I have a choice until I hear your voice... "Come dance with me"

This is very hard to chose my best, because I am so utterly incapable of seeing much in my own work... so I will put one that seemed to get pretty good compliments from the sites and from one publisher... This is a collaboration with Mr. Taylor Brandesky. Without a Trace
Thanks. If anyone is a performer, and is interested in this song, please contact me. Lyrics are below...

Without A Trace
I was starving in a wilderness without Searching for myself, searching for a love Wrapped up in doubt Just past the loneliness, just past the pain I saw love standing there Now I'm not the same
(Chorus) Catch me if you will Save me if you can And if you need me take me by the hand Catch me if you will Save me if you can But if you don't love me, help me understand How to lose you How to lose myself 'Til you're gone Without a trace
You came to me, you came to me with emptiness inside Searching for yourself, searching for a love Troubled state of mind Just past the craziness, just beyond your soul We love past our passion Then we lost control
(Chorus)
(Bridge) No matter what I do No matter what I say Every time my heart beats it fills my blood with you Every time I say your name I get high from the sound Spinning me into oblivion, round and round and round
(Chorus) Kime/Brandesky 2009

Well, I couldn't resist this thread. Some folks might disagree with my pick, but that's O K .... Y'all can make up your own minds as to which of my tunes are the least offensive. My personal favorite tune (by me) is titled, "A Bitch Like You", but some people are more partial to the "Peckerwood Song" which is probably as "sappy" as I got on this first project. See if you agree with me. Use good speakers or a headset or go to a bar with a good sound system and an AMI internet jukebox for the full effect. http://www.myspace.com/jakeblakeproject >> Happy Happy New Year Everybody! And if you're into Redneck, look me up on youtube ....
I wrote this about almost 3 years ago,Derek Hines came in and did the rewrite and laid the basic music down, then Caroline came in and smoothed it out for us....THEN
Mike Caro (Substudio) did the full production, live everything, and did the singing on it.....I LOVE THIS SONG....WHAT CAN I SAY...THANKS AGAIN DEREK, AND CAROLINE....BUT MOST OF ALL THANK YOUR MIKE CARO
How These Walls Cry
Through the years I've seen many things Some I wish i had not seen I've seen men come and go Some go home and some go well, you know.
It's a shame it took this to bring me to my knees
It doesn't matter who you are the roughest, toughest, meanest of men With all kinds of tattoos There will come a day when you'll have to bend
You know when somethings going down there's any icy wicked chill in the air and it's thicker than ice you better think twice Before you show anyone that your scared
it's seeping through the walls like fingers reaching out for you stops you in your tracks afraid to breathe or even move
No one makes a sound As evil floats around but, at night man you should see How these walls cry.
My Mama revered the Lord She said, son you'd better be good Or you'll go straight to hell well it feels like I am in this cell
Mamma did what she could But she can't stop these walls from closing in At times I swear I hear them talking I pace the floors spend hours walking At anytime my life could end
When my mamma cried for me i just laughed right in her face Now her wisdom I ignored Has put me in this place
No one makes a sound As evil floats around but, at night man you should see How these walls cry
How these walls cry
(Bridge) Well, if I could get out for just one day you know what i'd do i'd get down on my knees and kiss that woman's feet Tell her I was such a fool
I've seen a man kill another man just for sitting on his bed Life means nothing behind these bars just look at someone wrong and your dead
Yeah they act so tough swearing, cussin' and fighting At night the damned lay still scared by a little thunder and lighting
No one makes a sound As evil floats around but, at night man you should see How these walls cry How these walls cry
Thanks to Roy & Tams for this thread, & the positive attitude behind it. I posted this in September, but it's still my favorite. "I Want My Virginity Back!", the first cut at www.myspace.com/suspendedspidersongs Ott
Choosing this one because it got the most views of all the ones I've posted so far on JPF, and I am partial to it because it's retro and I love that older sound. I'm a dreamer so I'm still hoping Kellie, Carrie, or LeAnn pick this one up, dress in a poodle skirt and do a vintage black and white video ala oldies style. Have the whole video scripted in my mind complete w/jukebox, dancehall, malt shop, 57 chevy, etc.
"I'm Just A Fool Who's In Love" (c)2008 Lynn Orloff
Why does it seem you're always late We plan on six, you show at eight Time after time you make me wait When I know I've waited before
Why do I always accept your excuse Though I call tell a lie from the truth Guess I'm afraid of what I might lose I'm just a fool who's in love
I'm just a fool, just a crazy fool Crazy in love with you You look in my eyes, and my heart's hypnotized I don't know what else to do...but..love...you
Why does it seem when you walk in the room There is a trace of someone's perfume Still I believe when you promise the moon I'm just a fool who's in love
I'm just a fool, just a crazy fool Crazy in love with you You look in my eyes, and my heart's hypnotized And I don't know what else to do...but...love...you
Why do you always treat me this way Friends try to warn me my heart's gonna' pay Though they mean well, I ignore what they say I'm just a fool who's in love Guess I'm a fool Yes I'm the fool I'm just a fool who's in love with you Guess I'm a fool Darlin' yes I'm a fool I'm just a fool who's in love
Back around 1983 I penned this one. Don't have a link/tho it's on my Freshman CD at CDBaby.com/TampaStan...

He carefully folded his glasses Put them away in their case Leaned back in his leather armchair And clasped his hands to his face Sat still there for a few moments head full of conflicting thoughts Have all the Ts been crossed Do all the Is have dots.
He leaned forward and looked at the letter Is this what he meant to say Could he have put things better Was there an easier way He took a gulp from the bottle It burned as it went down Vision was blurred from the whisky His head was spinning around
How could things have gotten To this final drastic stage Maybe he should write just one more page He mustered up his courage This time he was gonna be brave He was going to print it this time He was not going to click on save
His finger hovered over the button His mind was on overload Another slug out of the bottle Just one more for the road This time was gonna be different He was never gonna be beat But he knew just like the times before He would only hit delete.
Maybe finish it another time This letter he didnt write Be brave and complete it some other dark night Say the things hes afraid to say And the things hes trying to hide But some things are better left unsaid About love and suicide.
this is a work in progress, it's very long over 20 minutes. It is my personal project for Uni, so if you have lots of time and patience take a listen. It could never be described as a meaningless pop song!!
Crazy Somehow v1 well i know that she's crazy but she's got the looks that kill, her body's built for satisfaction, i'm gonna get my fill, the scars on her wrist tell a tale i didn't see, it's too late the sun's come up she's lyin next to me.
ch yeah we're all, crazy now, maybe i'm the one, that's crazy somehow. yeah we're all, crazy now, maybe i'm the one, that's crazy somehow.
v2 everyone i know says i, gotta get away, but the way she works that body makes it so hard to say, everytime that i get close she teases me with more, there's somethin bout this drama-queen that i just can't ignore.

I have music for all of my songs and they vary from rock to country to folk and everywhere in between. (except rap)
Billy Playle was my collaborator (arrangement/melody/guitar/vocals).
What Colour Is Love?
(v1 ) Theres the grey fog of grief Of the grim disbelief When youve lost once again What was dear to your heart Or the steel-blue of pain When the tears want to start But
Chorus In the dark shades of night When sleep has long gone And thoughts overwhelm me As the hours grind along Can anyone tell me What colour is love?
(v2) Theres the umber of sadness Deep-space black of madness Or white gold left behind By stars that have died Or the purple of violence That so many will hide
Chorus In the dark shades of night When sleep has long gone And thoughts overwhelm me As the hours grind along Can anyone tell me What colour is love?
Bridge Perhaps its the mixed box of crayons A lonely child holds in its hand As it carefully fills in the contours Of a family in fairytale land
(v3) Theres the beige of old-fashioned Or the wine-red of passion When blood starts to pound And emotions run deep Or the pearl-silver silence As you watch a child sleep But
Chorus In the dark shades of night When sleep has long gone And thoughts overwhelm me As the hours grind along Can anyone tell me What colour is love?
Outro Does love have a colour? Or a sound we can sing? And if love has a colour Is it in Everything?
This Would Be His Last Time 2006 Bill Robinson ASCAP
Verse Was another night of cheap red wine A night spent beggin for nickels and dimes Wipin windshields down at Fifth and Main Then into the alley to buy from the man
He crawled in the dumpster he called his home Hed spend another cold damp night alone His old Navy coat was faded and worn Didnt do much to keep an old man warm
Ch A fifty cent lighter and a small metal spoon Cooked up the magic his peace would come soon The dope played its trick on his tortured mind He promised himself this would be his last time
verse People would see him and wonder why He kept living this way just waitin to die Theyd never ask or really want to know What brought this man down so long ago
Hed long forgotten what made him this way The weakness that broke him a little each day He dreamed of a good day somewhere in his past For just a few hours thats all it would last
Ch A fifty cent lighter and a small metal spoon Cooked up the magic his peace would come soon The dope played its trick on his tortured mind He promised himself this would be his last time
Bridge The places it takes you are in your mind Youll only be there for a very short time But then you come down and youre still all alone
Ch A fifty cent lighter and a small metal spoon Cooked up the magic his peace would come soon The dope played its trick on his tortured mind He promised himself this would be his last time
Tag He promised himself this would be his last time

This is a hard task, how do you choose which of your children you like best. Which is my best country song or my best Gospel song. What I like best may not be my best. Well here goes.
Hi all! It's kind of hard to choose from your best song and your own personal favorites. One of my favorites has to be the first song I wrote a long way back in May 2010, LOL. And I would like to contribute to costs whatever the outcome if it helps.
Sending back your wine and roses. One door opens then it closes. She wont let you stick your nose in. She wont do what youre supposing. See her walking, how she dances. Sends the watching crowd in trances. Which one is the one she fancies. Does she know your circumstances. But she.. loves me.
She picks up my fallen ego. Shes my shield wherever we go. Like a magnet, will attract you, but shes not yours to come back to. In the valley of the shadow she will walk the straight and narrow. In loves deep and in its shallows shes the eagle and the sparrow. And she..loves me.
Whats the point in feeling badly? What your after aint there sadly. I was there when she was choosing. You were elsewhere. Thats not loosing.
(instrumental)
I see now youre contemplating could it be shes hesitating? Is she leaving? Is she staying? Listen to what she is saying Sending back your wine and roses. One door opens then it closes. In loves deep and in its shallows shes my eagle and my sparrow. And sheloves me.
(repeat three times)

It's never too late? Yes it is, so do it now.
If, given time, a monkey can write the complete works of Shakespeare maybe there's hope for me.
Hi everyone! I think this was a great idea! I haven't been on this site long but have had a wonderful time collaborating with others. I guess my best song for 2010 would have to be "I'll Be On My Way". I was sent the track by Andy Kemp when I was on another site. I moved on to this site and invited him to join as well. I enjoyed writing the lyrics to an actual track(1st time doing this)but never imagined how it would evolve. I met Tammy through this song as she sang vocals and brought this song to life! Not only did she do an amazing job with the vocals and recording, but she got it played on 2 online radio sites. It made it to no. 8 on the voting chart at Hardcoremix during its airplay. So thanks to my new friends I have to say this was my best. http://www.reverbnation.com/play_now/song_5585584
I'll Be On My Way by Jennifer (Jinx) Shaner
2010
I feel cold inside despite the heat Feel pleasure, yet pain Love once made me whole Im now incomplete and broken again
I look in your eyes Which once warmed my soul The fires now gone Theres heat in your touch But love is not there Its time to move on
(prechorus) I must find the strength to run Im not the type to just have fun
(chorus) Your promises mean nothing now I need to break away somehow Love is what I had but lost Now its time to pay I will not stay yours to use I may be hurt, my ego bruised But without loves the meanings lost Ill now be on my way
An empty touch Cant fill the holes When love is gone Hiding my pain I act out my roles And try to move on
Ignoring the pain I put on a smile And face each new day I know I was right To push you aside You were just in my way
(prechorus) Within my chest my heart still bleeds Im dead and yet I live And yet to taste what love can be Again my heart Id give
(chorus) Your promises mean nothing now I need to break away somehow Love is what I had but lost Now its time to pay I will not stay yours to use I may be hurt, my ego bruised But without loves the meanings lost Ill now be on my way
Verse 1: Quick stop, short of time But now he's trapped in the checkout line It's hard to keep turning the other One in front ignores cashier Cell phone stuck to her ear It's hard to keep turning the other Hard to keep turning the other Hard to keep turning the other
Chorus 1: Cheek . . . she's unaware She couldn't care for his needs as he broods You're not alone! Think of me! Show some courtesy It's hard to keep turning the other cheek
Verse 2: Dogs barking night and day Loud, late parties keep him awake It's hard to keep turning the other Appointments never show Left lane drivers way too slow It's hard to keep turning the other
Chorus 2: Cheek . . . they're unaware They couldn't care for his needs as he shouts You're not alone! Think of me! Show some courtesy It's hard to keep turning the other cheek
Bridge: He's sick of getting stepped on everyday Letting the rude have their selfish way Biting his tongue to avoid an unpleasant scene
Verse 3: Pushed too far, had enough Now nine lie in pools of blood It's hard to keep turning the other SWAT team 'bout to break inside One bullet left . . . To clear his mind It's hard to keep turning the other Hard to keep turning the other Hard to keep turning the other
Chorus 3: Cheek . . . they weren't aware They couldn't care 'bout his pain` as he cries I'm not a brick! I hurt and bleed! Show some courtesy It's hard to keep turning the other Hard to keep turning the other Hard to keep turning the other . . .

I have a couple of songs that I think are my best. Stylistically, I'm all over the place, so that makes it harder to pick just one. I mean, I have the one that I love that I think would go over best here, and then there is my favorite pure pop song. And then my favorite weirdofreak song. But as I am at JP Folks, I will post the former. It's probably the prettiest thing that I've done: "Come On, Let's Go" 1. Were we lonely? I forget But I can't forget the way you looked The night that we first met
It was Tuesday It was late But not too late to play the flirt Or play the hand of fate
-c- A smile hello Come on, lets go The bars about to close Heres a pen, Ill call you when
2. Were we happy? I forget But I can't forget the words you said When you said it should end
I was happy What did you expect? But I didnt expect the way I felt When you stayed in my head
-c- The urge to phone Come on, lets go The shows about to start Hey, why not?, Another shot
-bridge- As much as things were meant to be This was meant to be As much as things were meant to be Im glad you came to me As much as things were meant to be You were meant for me As much as you were meant for me...
3. Now where are we? How could I forget? Were on the road, come on, lets go
Words are, in my not-so-humble opinion, our most inexhaustible source of magic. Capable of both inflicting injury, and remedying it... Professor Albus Dumbledore
Weirdo freak song? I want to hear that one Todd.. send me a link in a PM to it. = )
Well, the weirdofreak thing is really moer about the subject matter rather than the music, itself. But, here it is: "Sheila of the Worms"
If you wanna hear somthing where the music is a bit more freaky, there's another one that I can link you to. But that one is the one that I was referring to.
Just woke up from hibernation three weeks short of Groundhog Day. I'll pick this one since if I wrote it in the 60's it had a chance to be a one-hit wonder.
Ok. Here's one from 1996 that never got passed the demo stage. This was intended as a guy/girl song. The fabulous female vocalist moved away and I never moved ahead with it.
It seems as though not long ago Something rare began to grow 'tween you and me
And at the time we didn't realize The future held a big surprise For us to see
Remember what we went through? Trying just to be there with a shoulder for the other one to lean on I could depend on you Reassured in knowing there was something we undoubtedly agreed on
CHORUS We're makin' it to the end No matter what we do or say Together you and I will stay as friends Makin' it to the end Whatever might get in the way Together you and I will stay as friends
So now we see what was to be A master plan where you and me are best of friends
And if we look to where we're going to Then maybe we can make it through It just depends
Whatever we're going through Shining like a beacon in a darkened sky you're always there to guide me I can depend on you Confident in knowing there was someone who was always there beside me
You know how they say your songs are like your children? Impossible to pick your favorite? They're going to grow up to become just like you someday? Wait, strike that last one.
I'm posting this particular piece because of all the ones I play live, this one gets the most positive feedback - including how I should get it published, etc.
There are no lyrics, aside from whatever you're making up in your head as it is playing. I'm all about music w/out words - that's why you don't see me perusing the lyrics boards.
I go to work each day like nothings changed Our friends just cant believe how strong I am I say that Im OK, sometimes life gets rearranged You have to learn to take it like a man
Then comes the night, and voices start calling Just like the light, my teardrops start falling I completely break down, go to black from white I have my feet on the ground, but then comes the night
We never said goodbye, I turned around and you werent there I could not convince myself at first How in the blinking of an eye I watched our dreams just disappear I only thought that I had felt the worst
Then comes the night, and voices start calling Just like the light, my teardrops start falling I completely break down, go to black from white I have my feet on the ground, but then comes the night
I pray to lose this hurt of being left alone With my knees in this dirt and my hands upon your stone
O.K, I'll play along. I can't really pick a "best" song, but this one has gotten the most airplay. I'm still "computer stupid" and don't know how to cut and paste links, so go to www.soundclick.com/bobcushing click on "I Need A Lover {Not A Mother}"
Lyrics: What I'm meant to be Only I can see Now I understand What it is & who I am I don't wanna be Something to take or leave And if I wait for life will it wait for me, will I live at all
Let it go let it go if you wanna be free Everyday everyday you can let the world see Yeah i know yeah i know that it wont be easy So here we go
Fear is the enemy It makes you believe That you cannot be what you wanted to be
Let it go let it go if you wanna be free Everyday everyday you can let the world see Yeah i know yeah i know that it wont be easy So here we go
What I'm meant to be Only I can see Now I understand What it is & who I am Every time you're on your own You can feel your not alone And you might as well believe You can let it go
Let it go let it go if you wanna be free Everyday everyday you can let the world see Yeah i know yeah i know that it wont be easy So here we go Let it go let it go if you wanna be free Everyday everyday you can let the world see Yeah i know yeah i know that it wont be easy So here we go
What im meant to be Only I can see Now i understand What it is & who i am
(Spoken)White collar man says he wants my vote. He says,We're all brothers. We are in the same boat. Is it true? Well I think I say not. The other day I saw him sailing his yacht.
His dental work his insurance pays. That's nice. I've no insurance and I pay twice the price? I have a job where I don't get a raise. The politician votes himself higher pays.
(Chorus) Oh(Harmony)White Collar Man (Spoken)He says he'll save my day. (Harmony)White Collar Man (Spoken)He'll help me make my way. (Harmony)White Collar Man (Spoken)He don't understand. I know (Harmony)White Collar Man (Spoken)He's gonna use me again.
I can't get credit so I rent to own. That's nice. I then find out I paid twice the price. Again? The businessman claims he's doing a favor. He's downsizing all the fruits of my labor.
Oh(Harmony)White Collar Man (Spoken)He says he'll save my day. (Harmony)White Collar Man (Spoken)He'll help me make my way. (Harmony)White Collar Man (Spoken)He don't understand. I know (Harmony)White Collar Man (Spoken)He's gonna use me again. (Harmony)Oo-oo-oo White Collar Man Oo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo White Collar Man Oo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo White Collar Man Oo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo
White collar man says for me he'll pray For forgiveness though I'll have to pay. His services us'lly come with a fee. What ever happened to giving freely?
(Harmony)White Collar Man (Spoken)He says he'll save my day. (Harmony)White Collar Man (Spoken)He'll help me make my way. (Harmony)White Collar Man (Spoken)He don't understand. I know (Harmony)White Collar Man (Spoken)He's gonna use me again. (Harmony)Oo-oo-oo White Collar Man Oo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo White Collar Man Oo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo White Collar Man Oo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo (Harmony)White Collar Man (Spoken)He'll prob'ly buy this song. (Harmony)White Collar Man (Spoken)He will not know what's wrong. (Harmony)White Collar Man (Spoken)He won't know I'm fakin'. (Harmony)White Collar Man (Spoken)I ain't even Jamaican man.

Okay, so here is the song that I think I was probably thinking of when it came to the "weirdofreak" thing: Hop on Pop - "Ashes on the Water"
Breathing in the soot and smoke and Ashes on the water can't get you back Look back to the side you came from You'd really better like it where you're at The end of a new beginning Beginning to think about the way things were No regrets You just can't help wondering
Now you're wandering through the ashes, so black Ashes on the water, so black It'll take a miracle to get you back
Sifting through the soot and sand and Ashes on the water washed up on the shore You burn your hand on a glowing ember That's what you get for coming back for more Or less in the same position The same situation with a different view Regret sets in You need to get back
Now you're wading through the ashes, so black Ashes on the water, so black It'll take a miracle to get you back
And as you're wading through The ashes stick to you And they burn your skin That's what you get for diving in You make it back to shore Couldnt fight any more And as it fades to black You feel the ashes on the water so black Lapping at your ankles, at your back It took a miracle to get you back
Coming to, your vision's blurry Wipe the soot and sand away and grimace at your burns Your hand closes 'round a book of matches If you need to you can keep them far back Making ashes on the water, so black It took a miracle to get you back...
Verse1 WHEN YOU'RE DOWN AND FEELIN' LOW, AND YOU KNOW IN YOUR HEART, THAT YOU GOT NO WHERE TO GO. LATE AT NIGHT, BEEN SLEEPING ROUGH, WELL, YOU KNOW LITTLE RUN-A-WAY, YOU'VE GOT IT TOUGH.
Chorus IS THERE ANY ONE WHO'LL UNDERSTAND, A KIND WORD, MAYBE A HELPING HAND. COS, ALL YOU NEED IS A BREAK, JUST ONE, JUST ONE, THAT'S ALL IT TAKES.
Verse2 WHEN YOU FEEL CLOSE TO DESPAIR, OH, IF YOU ONLY KNEW SOMEONE WHO WOULD REALLY CARE. I GUESS YOU FOUND, THERE'S NO WORK AROUND, WHEN YOUR PENNILESS, HOMELESS, YOUR BED IS THE GROUND.
Chorus IS THERE ANY ONE WHO'LL UNDERSTAND, A KIND WORD, MAYBE A HELPING HAND. COS, ALL YOU NEED IS A BREAK, JUST ONE, JUST ONE, THAT'S ALL IT TAKES.
I GUESS THAT'S ALL IT TAKES.
Instumental
Bridge WELL I KNOW, JUST HOW YOU FEEL, YOU WANNA WAKE UP, AND FIND THAT IT ISN'T REAL, YOU CLOSE YOUR EYES, THIS IS NO DREAM, COS THE WIND AND THE RAIN ON YOUR FACE, MAKE YOU WANNA SCREAM.
Chorus IS THERE ANY ONE WHO'LL UNDERSTAND, A KIND WORD, MAYBE A HELPING HAND. COS, ALL YOU NEED IS A BREAK, JUST ONE, JUST ONE, THAT'S ALL IT TAKES.
I FEEL SO COUNTRY http://www.jimcolyer.com/sitebuilder/flash/player?f=/music/flash/playlist.xml%3Ft%3D279
I eat supper every night at the Cracker Barrel When I step out, I dress in western apparel An American girl, just like the 4th of July I Feel So Country I could die
I know every song Shania ever sang I can't resist that good old country twang I wave my flag every 4th of July I Feel So Country I could die
Well, I'm looking for a man who's looking for a girl Who knows just how she feels Looking for a man who's looking for a girl Who's looking for something real
I grew up on a farm, I learned how to hoe and plow Come on, city boy, I'll show you how When I love a man, I never say goodbye I Feel So Country I could die Oh yeah
solo

I don't think I've written my best song yet... LOL! You've had a great idea though and it's fun to read the lyrics and attempt to use the links provided for so many JPFrs. Thanks, as always for your inventive ideas.
Jan this is beautiful. Simple elegance. Intro very appetizing. The vocalist is WOW! Does he work out of certain demo studio? Forgive me, this probably isn't the place to do a critique but boy this is really a great song and it might just be me, but I thought it would shine even brighter if you moved up the Chorus sooner. My ears were ready for the climax of the Chorus sooner. Your Chorus (which is wonderful) doesn't play till 2:00 into the song. If you did that, you could either get rid of one of the weaker verses or keep all your verses and turn one into a bridge. Forgive my boldness.
Well, A couple of my songs that have received a bit of attention. NUMBER ON THAT TRUCK and TAKE A CHANCE. Both posted at http://www.geocities.ws/fiverosesmusicgroup/ under Ray's Music.
Don't have too many (yet)....but for all around congruency of lyric, music, solo...this is my best and FIRST FULL song I recorded in 2010...in my living room.
I don't normally do things like this, but this song has a special meaning, for too many reasons to mention. It was included on a D.C. duo's, "Water's Edge" debut CD...Sadly, we lost the lead singer shortly after the CD came out. So I'm posting it as a tribute to Galactic Annie Sucher.
The diner is closing, the cars on the freeway can be seen from the window as she's stacking the chairs. Following dreams, they're headed for somewhere. Somewhere is anywhere other than here.
And nobody told her that the cost of growing older would be dreams that don't die, though out of kindness they should. But she watches the tail lights, headed for bright lights, watching them leaving and wishing she could.
And the moon it is rising tonight on East Texas, so close you could touch it if you dared to believe. But a moon full of dreams is still gone in the morning and whispers of wonders is all that it leaves.
The job pays her bills, and puts food on the table, clothes on the children and flowers on the grave of the young man whose picture sits under the counter where he still holds the family he's left her to raise.
And the moon it is rising tonight on East Texas, so close you could touch it if you dared to believe. But a moon full of dreams is still gone in the morning and whispers of wonders is all that it leaves.
Katy are you ready, I've locked up the cash box calls a voice from the back room in a fatherly tone. It looks like a full moon, let's walk out together. By choice there is no one who would walk out alone.
And the moon it is rising tonight on East Texas, so close you could touch it if you dared to believe. But a moon full of dreams is still gone in the morning and whispers of wonders is all that it leaves.

Satchel was right. Something is gaining on me.

This song was inspiried by an old woman I seen panhandling some time ago;she was obviously not right in the head. I watched the way people reacted to her, some with indifference, some with disdain, others gave her money, and others were entertain by her plight. I wondered how she wound up there. I decided to write a tune about her and give her a name and a history.
Steve Biederman and I wrote this together on the phone. We laughed so much. its a wonder we were able to write. I think thats why this song is my favorite that Ive written.
Mad Maddy Words and Music by Biederman/Gaines 2012
A home coming queen in the 50s Madelyn was a sight to see The man of her dreams joseph Mc gee Was the captain of the football team
They married right out of high school She gave herself to Joseph that night Ten years of bliss then terrible a twist A house fire took josephs life
Chorus Now they just call her Mad Maddy That old woman with the toothless grin When she downs a pint and closes her eyes Shes dancing with joseph again
(Instrumental)
Madelyn is now pushing 80 Panhandling to buy more wine Addled and broke but the wine offers hope For a heart stuck in another time
She knows that they call her mad Maddy But really she dont mind at all If they give up their change they can use any name The wine lets her love come to call
Bridge He appeared soon after the funeral Though Madelyn knew Joseph was dead She drank to get her nerves steady And danced with his ghost instead
Chorus Now they just call her Mad Maddy That old woman with the toothless grin When she downs a pint and closes her eyes Shes dancing with joseph again
Tag The wine kicks in She flashes her grin And dances with Joseph again
1. My America was founded on faith, freedom and liberty She's my legacy so don't come 'round here talkin' 'bout takin' these guns away from me 'cuz they keep me free
PC. I stand with the Bill and the Constitution and the rights they Guarantee
Chorus So, you won't take my gun 'til you can pry it from My cold dead hands my cold dead hands
2. I'll protect my family, my home and my nation from harm and tyranny and you too if need be so don't come 'round here treadin' on me now or you might get a lesson from 'ole Smith and Wesson
PC I'll keep my Bible, my rifle, my shotgun and my Three- fifty- seven
I hear tell they think they're doing well Up on Wall Street in New York But that's so not the view I've got Out here on my porch Dog's running rabbits through the weeds Growing up around a truck that hasn't cranked in days And I ain't sweating at no factory job Just settin' up here in the shade
I got no reason for leaving here for anyway It don't matter if that truck won't start Somebody somewhere is making hay Just not in my backyard
They closed the textile mills in Caroline And the steel mills in PA You'll only get connected to some Indian guy If you pick up the phone to complain Big boxes killed off the Mom & Pops China owns the American Dream The King of Beers belongs to Belgium now There ain't no local economy
I got no reason for leaving here for anyway It don't matter if that truck won't start Somebody somewhere is making hay Just not in my backyard
How they sleep at night the devil knows And he shipped my job off to Mexico I hear the money's good if you're a CEO But a working man's got nowhere to go
I got no reason for leaving here for anyway It don't matter if that truck won't start Somebody somewhere is making hay Just not in my backyard Yeah somebody somewhere is making hay Just not in my backyard
Maybe not my favorite of mine but one of my favourites due to many reasons, and one being that it has hints and call to many other songs of mine in recurrent sentences that then repeat and quote in many others. It is very much a mood state I step into often... in the mist
Barry. I started this topic years ago so visitors and new members could hear songs that may have long gone from the current topics. I leave it to the song writers to decide which song to list. Obviously clicking on a song to have a listen will take the listener to members own site or their other songs.
I hope that explains...

Barry, When you make another post on something it bumps the link to the top of the list. I have lots of "Best Original Songs" so you will have to just pick one. The Link to the Web Site where some of my songs are posted is on the Industry Board NEW WEB SITE but here it is again. http://www.geocities.ws/fiverosesmusicgroup/ under Rays Music. So give me an opinion on HERE IN THE COUNTRY if you go there. Or any other of the 15 songs posted.
Oh, in case anyone is interested it appears nobody is looking for songs out there as I have been searching for opportunities and have found none. Keep writing.
You are correct. Any songwriter OUT THERE that thinks anybody is going to sing their song is drinking the cool age. It just can't be done except in a million to one scenario. Don't ever quit your day job IF you have one....lol It's all fools gold...

One of the most important principles of songwriting is to remember that a good song is a partnership of many different components, all working together to produce a satisfying musical experience.
In that respect, song components are either enhancing or compromising their combined effects.
Almost impossible to choose which song you like best. Like saying which of your children is your favourite. https://soundclick.com/r/s1b1bs is one in this genre, I have songs in several genres, are we allowed to post in different genres.
I'm the youngest in my immediate family tree (not including half brothers ) and over the last 20 years, all three of my older sisters have passed away. I wrote this song dedicated to all three
My sister, you have gone, Rest in peace, now. The storm which you endured, Is no more The love you always gave, As you lived, while being brave, is not lost, so, sister, know you are loved.
What does it mean to live and die? What does it mean to laugh and cry? And are there really answers? And are there reasons why? What does it mean to run and fly? What does it mean to touch the sky? And now you have your answer so now we say goodbye, rest in peace
We'll always hold you near, dearest sister You're loving soul is felt by us all now you transcend to be in that place where you are free Goodbye, kindred heart, rest in peace.
What does it mean to live and die? What does it mean to laugh and cry? And are there really answers? And are there reasons why? What does it mean to run and fly? What does it mean to touch the sky? And now you have your answer With God , Sister, you live, so goodbye, rest in peace
