After the Top 1, I can't keep track: George Gershwin - Rhapsody in Blue http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxb7yNG0DGc&feature=relatedClick here for an amazing performance by Leonard Bernstein and Los Angeles Philharmonic.

This has to be broken into 2 categories, IMO Rock/pop: "Surrender to the Rhythm" by Brinsley Schwarz "Whiter Shade of Pale" by Procol Harem "I Love the Sound of Breaking Glass" by Nick Lowe "Let It Be" by The Beatles "Highway Star" by Deep Purple
Classical/jazz: "The Goldberg Variations" Glenn Gould's 1955 performance of the Bach comp. "Für Elise" comp. by Ludwig Von Beethoven "Round Midnight" by Thelonious Monk "Linus and Lucy" by Vince Giuraldi "Four In One" by Thelonious Monk

Okay, I'll take a stab at this totally bogus question. With so, so many great pieces, genres and choices, a top 5 is impossible to call. But, here goes my opinion anyway (in no particular order)...
1. Funeral For A Friend - Elton John 2. Six Wives of Henry VIII - Rick Wakeman 3. Piano Concerto No. 1 - Keith Emerson 4. Köln Concert Part 1 - Keith Jarrett 5. Are You Going With Me? - Lyle Mays w/ Pat Metheny

Of course it is bogus, but it is fun to think about them. I mentioned one of my all-time favorite piano players, so naturally his songs stick in my mind.

RACHMANINOFF-Second Piano Concerto BEETHOVEN-Fifth Piano Concerto, The Emperor. I'll go along with Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 in C Minor. His Prelude in C Minor (Bells of Moscow) is what inspired me to pursue music. John

Just goes to show..Most of the memorable piano riffs I've picked are not by guys you'd consider to piano "virtuosos" {Neil Young, Jackson Browne, John Lennon,Pete Townshend,Jerry Garcia, Bob Seger}sometimes simple is best.
