I was so excited the very first time I ever heard Vic sing his song "Johnny Cash", right here on JPF, I wanted to sing with him. I was so happy when he thought doing a "Johnny and June" type song was a good idea and we got right to writing a duet. This has been in the works for a long time and I am so happy to finally be posting it. A dream realized. Quiet Man on SoundClick Quiet Man by Vic Arnold and Tammy Carlson © 2011 (Tammy) C'mon darlin, tell me about your day I promise I'll hang onto every word you say there's something in your eyes but I won't understand I wish you would talk but your a quiet man (Vic) Baby this quiet is what I hide behind I want to tell you things but hold back each time I'm guarding my heart now, can't you take a chance you will know that I love you when we start to dance (Chorus) I'm a Quiet Man (Vic) You can talk to me (Tammy) I'm a Quiet Man (Vic) Tell me everything (Tammy) You're a Quiet Man (Tammy) One Day they'll see (Vic) (in harmony) It's the heart that speaks for the quiet man (Vic) My love is real, locked inside my heart The words are all there, but I don't know how to start They're like little secrets I find hard to tell But I'll drop them like pennies in your wishing well (Tammy) It isn't really something you should conceal Tell it to me softly how I make you feel whisper your sweet words of love when you can But for everyone else, you'll be a quiet man (Chorus) I'm a Quiet Man (Vic) You can talk to me (Tammy) I'm a Quiet Man (Vic) Tell me everything (Tammy) You're a Quiet Man (Tammy) One Day they'll see (Vic) (in harmony) It's the heart that speaks for the quiet man

Well, for some reason it's not playing for me, but reading through it I can imagine how great both of you would be singing it..I've tried to play it several times through the day today...I can't stay up for very long at a time, don't have my laptop anymore, have to go to my office room....and sit...by the time I listen to one song, I have to lay back down, still very weak...have to wear my breathing machine most of the day now....love you guys...I'll keep trying, maybe if you could email it to me, maybe then I can listen....

wow that was just exceptionally well done!
congrats to you both Tammy and Vic
definitely did have a Johnny and June feel to it
real nice trail off there at the end as yall exchange some "lets get down to some loving " type banter....
you really should consider pitching this to Nashville cause well done duets are rare and in demand..stars like stuff they can sing together...
was very impressed indeed

Fantastic play off each other. Loved the production, feel, and harmonies on this. Your voices blended well together. Anytime you try a Johnny/June tune you had better deliver, and this did. Tam, this felt...comfortable for you. It shows in your vocal. And Vic, JC incarnate, you nailed this. The female voice is important here but the Johnny Cash style has to be approached with reverance, respect, and chops--and you brought all 3 to the table. Nice work.

Mac. Thanks for the comments. It's hard to remember now as it's been such a while since we started this but as I remember it was Tammy's original idea and mostly her lyrics but I did throw in a couple of lines and the melody. The instruments are me, apart from some drum loops. I think that's it. If I left something out Tammy can remind me. Vic

I enjoyed this coming from two friends that I've had the pleasure to record with. I think of Vic's vocal is just Vic, with maybe a touch of Johnny Cash. I think that it's his own style and not a preconceived Cash sound.
The back and fourth dialogue is great. Tammy sounds perky and sultry, especially toward the end with the speaking lines. Vic sounds very American country for an Englishman. Just shows his versatility, not to mention the work that went into the production.
Good job you two.

Charles,
Well, this song started in a chat, I came up with the "Quiet Man" hook because I'm a chatty gal and Vic uses words sparingly...I wrote my first verse, sent it to him, he wrote his next verse and so on (we each wrote our own verses).
Then, we both collaborated on the chorus which had about three evolutions. we talked about the melody, but after that, Vic solidified a melody, chorded it and played and mixed everything...
Vic did a great job all around, I only had to sing and send it to him and wait for him to make it into magic...

Tammy and Vic, I thought this was great. It had a really natural, comfortable sound and feel to it. And there was a lot of chemistry there in the voices. I also loved the spoken-word parts at the end. Tammy sounds great singing in this style and I agree with Ben that Vic is Vic. A hint of Johnny maybe but he has his own singing style. I liked the harmonies. I also liked the music. It's a winner for me. Kick it to those guys and gals on da Row..

This is REALLY good! The work you guys put into this is evident. I bet somewhere along the way you knew this was a hit waiting to be heard and put in the extra time to get it right. Real nice job. Not even my style of music but I don't care. A good song is a good song and this is that! (love that last sentence.)
The ONLY thing that hit me funny right off the bat was the word "wont" in the first verse. I keep looking at it and can't really figure out why it stands out to me but it does. Something doesn't seem right there but I can't put my finger on it. Probably just me.
Great work!
