Dig In ©2012 Steven M. Biederman http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=12029342I slipped the match from my pocket Fumbled with my last cigarette All else was lost or forgotten No sense of purpose anywhere It's just that, I can't choose from all these prophets Were they sons of God or were they just men And I'll probably sell my soul For a new Cadillac in the end Dig in Couldn't make a choice, I was confused some It's hard to spiritualize when you are fully dressed So I just reached in and grabbed myself a handful And found I couldn't sort it out in the end Jesus, Muhammad and Buddha In your wisdom billions become content But which one of you can prove He's the real, only one Heaven sent Dig in I took a walk with spiritual darkness Looking for spiritual light Darkness said what I need is a personal savior One who gives eternal life My wits were sharp as a razor Always could see round the bend But I never saw this coming I never did comprehend...then I met the risen Jesus I admit I'd heard about Him from friends That He was crucified and died, resurrected Giving life to all men I dug in I slipped the match in my pocket

tom Thanks Tom. I really didn't know if anyone would like this one, especially the background vocals. I didn't know if they were too over the top but I've played it for a few folks now and they all like the storyline and the bvs so I guess it's working so far, eh? I appreciate the listen and comments. Stevie

Nice one, Stevie. I'm no expert on songs of praise but this one has a perspective I haven't heard before. Cool. And, yeah, the background vocals are cool too. Scott

Cool tune stevie... I like the back ups...kinda beatles like...Its like the whole song (thought or story) happened in a flash...between the time you took out the match to the time you slipped it back in...
Why did you put the match back any way?

Glad you liked the perspective it has going on. Wait till my next one if you like a change of perspective. I'm still writing it but will have it up when this one peters out. Stevie

doug Thanks a bunch, Doug. I put the match back because I became comfortable in my own skin finally through faith in Jesus. I didn't need the crutch anymore. Haha, hows that for a deep theological thought? Stevie

glyn Thanks Glyn. Glad you like it. I didn't know if the backing vocals would be too much over the top as they say, but it seems that they've been well recieved. Stevie

This has a nice flow to it Stevie. Well played and phrased. Not sure though about the message when you sing "But which one of you can prove He's the real, only one Heaven sent" which says to me that you doubt all of them, Then in the last verse you seem to believe in Jesus. There seems to be a link missing there. Or is it me that's missing something? Vic

You have an up close and personal sound going on here. What limiter are you using on the master bus -- it sounds good to me.
Really good lyrics, too -- you have a good perspective on these spiritual songs.

Stevie, an out of the box take here, no doubt. Great writing! :)))) scotty Thanks Scotty, I try to stay outside the box as I'm claustrophobic. I just don't want to do the same old, same old Praise and Worship fare where you invite people to sing the same verses or chorus' over and over and over with all the churchy cliques if you know what I mean. They have their place but they don't appeal to me although I do play bass on them in my church. I hope my songs will appeal musically and lyrically to those among us who don't quite know what they believe and get them thinking as well as those "churched" folks. I've been on both sides of the fence so I hope my songs relate somewhat universally. If so I've done my job. Thanks again for the listen and comments. Stevie

You've got some good lines on this one and can definitely hear your musical influences. The Cadillac line is tight!

Read the chorus and last verse again, it gives the clue as to the change of heart and vision. Thanks for the listen. Stevie

Really good lyrics, too -- you have a good perspective on these spiritual songs. Hi Kevin, Don't know if this answers you question or not but I use Adobe Audition ver. 1.5 for recording where I compress the individual vocals to a preset I designed and then a short reverb on the lead and a more medium reverb on the BGVs. Then after mixdown I use version 3.0 to master as it has a multi-band compressor and a tube based compressor which I have set up the way I designed it after a lot of trial and error. Sometimes a small bit of reverb over the whole track in mastering but not much. It seems to work but I'm always trying to make it sound better...sometimes successfully and sometimes not. And hey, thanks for the visit and comments. Stevie

I'm not sure who you heard in this one as far as musical influences is concerned but my biggest ones are The Beatles and Brian Wilson. Maybe the backing vocals are a give away somewhat. Glad you like the Cadillac line. Stevie
