If you haven't heard, Dave Brubeck passed away -- RIP Dave. A little background on the album Take Five came out on: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_Out_%28album%29

I saw him on the U of Fla campus (1975?). I believe his son was playing with him. Here's my Brubeck 5/4 tribute I did quite a while ago using a 5/4 demo song from BIAB (I am no jazzer, by any means): 5/4 Swing Jam.

"It's supposed to be hard. If it wasn't hard, everyone would do it. The 'hard' is what makes it great."

Kevin, That's a fine tribute.to Mr. Brubeck. I had no idea you had that kind of swing in you! Sounding good.

Write from your heart, not what you think others want to hear.

Kevin! Was that cool or was that cool! I felt like I was in a night club in Vegas 1964. I'm no jazz connoissueur, but that was very good. Nice tribute!

Impressively-Played, Brother Kevin!!!

Thanks for Sharing, Amigo! TODAY would've been his 92d Birthday...

My Freshman Year at college, dorms were crowded, so 10 of us guys got housed off-campus in a small Cottage of Sorts.

One kid, James Ball, was from Ontario, Canada (First Beatle Haircut I'd ever seen) and he brought with him a whole bunch a JAZZ Albums he insisted we ALL listen-to... 1964...

And so began my Appreciation for Jazz & Dave Brubeck! (I think "Take Five" was also the First Time I'd ever Heard a Drum Solo!!!)) His buddy, Ramsey Lewis played live at our school the year "In Crowd" was a Hit... Doubt I'd have appreciated him as-much if it hadna been for Dave's Opening The Door to Jazz Appreciation earlier-on amongst my peer group!

Dave's apparently left FOUR Musician Sons behind in his wake...not a bad Legacy..for such a Great Legend!!!

What a beautiful tribute, Kevin. smile Smooth, smooth, smooth...

You're a man of many talents. smile

I was saddened to see earlier today that Brubeck had died. What a legend.

Great tone Kev what guitar are you using on this? Very nice bit of improv and you know what they say "there's no wrong notes in jazz"

Dan: The band is swinging, I am just hanging on for dear life! Thanks for the listen.

Calvin: Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

Eddie: It is a BIAB demo song that I changed some instrumentation and added guitar. Thanks.

Stevie: Sometimes adding the lyrics distracts the listener -- ha, ha.

Jim: It is a shame that radio is so segmented now. It has always been segmented, but back in the 60's you could hear the Beatles, Stones, love is blue, Streisand, Merle, Johnny Cash and bubble gum pop all on the same AM station.

Stan: I am not a big jazzer but I've listened to Miles, Coltrane and a few of the other biggies. College is where your supposed to get introduced to all sorts of new stuff!

Donna: Thanks so much for the kind words!

Nite: Thanks for stopping on by.

Andy: It is my 2006 MIM Ash Strat and I am using the G-DEC 15 amp on a setting called "Black Cat" which is modeled after the Stray Cats sound, I guess. Some real funky chords in that backing track, but I assume I am doing mostly pentatonics in there.

"It's supposed to be hard. If it wasn't hard, everyone would do it. The 'hard' is what makes it great."

Man, I wouldn't have wanted to play in that time signature. smile

I thought you did great though. Very mellow and cool - perfect song for late afternoon!
