AMERICA I KNOW WE’RE STRONG

First:
Walking down a moonlite street
pavement underneath my feet
empty windows reflecting neon lights
Taking pause to clear my mind
getting lost in time
hard to take in where it all went wrong
Jobs have left us gone away
Leaders fail us every day

Chorus:
America I know we’re strong
We use to lead but what went wrong
When others count on us
They need to know they have our trust
Corruption on and off our shores
Where’s the country I knew before
America I know we’re strong

Second:
My shoes get dusted as a warm wind blows
Pick up my cadence as I cross the road
Hear a dog bark silence left behind
Mental picture comes to my mind
Are these truly the worst of times
Country needs to stand up and say
We’re behind you in every way
But our values must not be betrayed

Chorus:
America I know we’re strong
We use to lead but what went wrong
When others count on us
They need to know they have our trust
Corruption on and off our shores
Where’s the country I knew before
America I know we’re strong

Third:
Out of the darkness light appears
Orange horizon tends to calm my fears
Journey ending I’m loosing track of time
Thoughts of tomorrow going through my mind
World seems so lost unkind
Lets work together and say
We’ll be better in every way
End the madness of war and hate

Chorus:
America I know we’re strong
We use to lead but what went wrong
When others count on us
They need to know they have our trust
Corruption on and off our shores
Where’s the country I knew before
America I know we’re strong

After all our current President's campaign slogan was "Make America Great Again". It is a follow-up to Reagan's "Morning in America". (although many thought that the u should have been inserted to describe another meaning, especially if you weren't among the rich or well off). Very few believe that he has really accomplished that, however. But yet the media and other PTB brainwash us, mostly successfully, that everything is flowing easily.

Regarding your "jobs have gone away" point, it is really a judgment call as to whether we really should be nostalgic for the so-called good jobs of the past. Many if not most of those old industrial jobs were quite dangerous, and stories or workers losing body parts in accidents are/were legendary. So maybe we shouldn't be.

Beechnut,
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I agree with you that the economy is not working for those in the middle or bottom of the economic scale. I also know some jobs are better left for dead. I would love to see more manufacturing jobs back but realize that our labor costs compared to other countries make that hard. I do know that I am lucky enough to be in a position to buy American and will over all others. Even though the costs can be sometimes almost twice the price. I just really believe that we need to support our country and workers. Thanks again and I sure love your stuff.

Hi Craig,
I agree with most of the sentiments in this song, and I like the writing, I would change a few here and there but only for meter, not for meaning. But I disagree with both Brian and you. Manufacturing is the backbone of our country, and what made it great. For every product we lose to overseas we lose valuable tech on how to make them, jobs, and all the infrastructure that supports them. Many towns have died and many left unemployed and feeling worthless because of trade policies and import tax differences that left American manufacturers out in the cold. I too buy everything I can made in America and have done so for many years, even if they cost a bit more.

John,
You can see from my post that I DO support manufacturing. I support with my buying American whenever I can and have many friends in manufacturing or retired. If they’d have not given big business huge tax breaks to move equipment and companies overseas the country would be much better off. I find it interesting that the Business Roundtable and Chamber of Commerce this past summer announced that businesses and corporations should start worrying a little more about workers and employees and less about stockholders. Maybe it is the possibility of a Sanders or Warren win that has them at least presenting to want to share some wealth before they are taxed. From Eisenhower to Carter taxes on the wealthy were from 85-90%. We were able to go to the moon and space and build the interstate highway system. Be interesting to se how the next two years play out.

You could be right with some metering though it works with my melody. I sure appreciate your comments to me and value your experience and wisdom with music. Keep on hammering me to make me better. Thanks lots.
