If I'd won it.....I'd paid the taxes due on it.....then waited to see how many "close friends" and extra "close" family came out of the woodwork! LOL

Ok...my way to spend the dough and share the wealth. First thing...take 10% and put it into an account for Christian Charities of some sort...community specific, helping youth, elderly, etc.

I'd set up trust funds for my children, nieces and nephews, and retirement funds for my parents and in-laws.

Then...I would buy a field stone ranch house in or around Onion Creek in south Austin, build a killer studio and several nice little efficiency apts. nearby on the property, so that when folks came to use the studio they could stay in comfort and privacy. I'd get several horses, and a ton of dogs from the local SPCA, an old pick-up truck that I could haul stuff in and a nice SUV for going into town. Hire a nice Mexican couple to run the place and give them a little house in the back so that they could keep an eye on things for me when I'm gone.

I would travel a little more...sponsor a few mission trips and go and help folks in hurting parts of the world...and play music for them, too.

Then I would live my life simply, filled with music, friends, good food and plenty of sunsets and wait to see what other opportunites presented themselves for me to invest in.

Hee Hee...dream on!

Pay off all my debt, give back to all the people who have helped me through the years, donate to my church and the MS Society (my mom has MS), buy a house and an NYC apartment, start a successful record label and take on new artists I believe in who need direction and financial support, travel everywhere imaginable with my husband, and invest/save the rest....

Well, I have decided not to wait for the Lottery to start working on my dream.

I am starting a "little" Fine Arts website as a base for my new organization called FineArtsFree

It's sampler to show people what I have in mind. I know we have educators on this site and would love input as to the progress and will welcome ideas. It is still under construction, but take a look at it and see if I am on the right track. And even though I don't have the membership rules quite defined yet, let me know if you are interested in joining.

Here is the link to FineArtsFree

http://home.earthlink.net/~fineartsfree/

Thanks,
JeanB

Set up college and retiremnts funds for my family. I have a AARP (American Association for Retarded Persons) Not Retired, a few blocks from where I live and I would do what ever I could for them. I still see some of the persons I used to see 30 yrs ago in junior high and high school. I would have to give to various junior programs to help kids on the right path.
I am big golf fan so I would lay down what I could for ALS, the Lou Gehrigs disease, because a special person in the golf community has it. His name is Bruce Edwards and he is Tom Watsons caddie. They have been together for aprox 27 yrs and they are campaining to fight ALS. I would give what I could to Cancer. My wife lost her Mom to cancer and we have lost many loved ones to cancer. I would love to see the USA. The only time I have ever travelled on a plane is to Las Vegas 3 times. My wife and I are celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary and to see the country I live in and love and meeting people from all over would be great fun. I want to see the Grand Canyon, nashville, New York, The Smithsonian, and so many wonderful places in the USA.
$240 million is alot and alot of good can be done. I lived out of a 1960 VW van at one time so I will never forget what it was like to be cold and hungry and worst of lonely.
No matter how much money I had I would make sure my daughter followed thru with her college. She is a senior this next year and wants to continue on to USC. I would make sure she got her Masters at least.
Finally, anything my wife wanted. She works 7 days a week and never complains. We are celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary in Jan 2004 and she deserves anything and everything I can give her. She has been thru so much in her life yet she never complains. Cheers.

I'd start my own recording studio, tour the amateur scene looking for stars, play my own gigs and focus on building a solid label...

I know what I would do with any amount of money the first thing would be to buy my equipment for my own recording studio along with all the instruments that I need. Pay for my daughter to get a good college education. Then I would publish my cd's and sell them. Part of the money would go to older artists who are disabled or financially unable to achieve any part of their dream. I'd offer so many hours of free recording time. And last but not at all the least I'd start a foundation for survivors of all kinds of abuse to help them get the help they need to keep on surviving.

Waal, guess I missed all the Excitement, but if I HAD won, I'd first have to Thank La Femme for Buyin' the Winnin' Ticket, since I never play Lotteries anymore. In Fla., odds are over 40 Million to One against winnin'...I'd rather produce another Indie CD...LOTS Better Odds..heh!
Anyhew..since this is all Conjecture, and assumin' Dawg's Math is Correct, what WOULD I do with a Spare $85 Mil anyways?

1) Buy a remote Bahamian Island with a Nice House on it & a Decent Boat & One Pontoon-Equipped Aircraft. $5-10 Mil. Ya only live once, go for The Gettaway!

2) Give our 2 Kids and 3 Siblings each a Mil. Feel Free to Piss it Away..we're henceforth "Tapped!"

3) Call Brian & discuss settin' up a SERIOUS Indie LABEL with REAL Promo and Distribution. With maybe 20 Mil behind it...(KNOW that Ain't MUCH these days, but HELL...there's so Much GREAT Talent just a-waitin', we'd make a Bundle offa the first few Releases, & things oughta just Take OFF from There...) ;-)>

4) Set up a Foundation to deal with The Rest. Wife & I on the Board. I'm interested in Rain Forests, Impoverished Families, & Alternatives to War. Wife's interested in curing Male Impulsive Behavior & Livin' with Loonie Husbands.

Guess that Sums it All Up...I'd still be workin' & writin'...'cuz THAT's what Really Matters!

Big Hugs,
Stan

PS..Almost Forgot (It's been BUSY around here) I'd for sure give Al "The Pal" Alvarez a Mil (Hey, it all came Easy..heh) for his GREAT Job of settin' up the JPF Tampa Chapter AND his (So far, kinda Thankless Job) of gettin' me & La Femme a Much-Needed HOUSE (We Can Afford) to Live In. You want any Real Estate after you Win That Lottery, call Al. He's The Man! (Never HAS much time for Fishin', either!) ;-)> IS worth a Mil when ya need a Shoulder to Cry On, believe me!

WOW what a question...first I would give my love offerings to churches, charity, people in need, then would do some kind of charity where people can help themselves, cause I believe in teaching people to fish instead of giving them the fish all the time that way they won't go hungry, we have so much music we write all the time so is hugely possible we would buy a house in Tennesee somewhere cause we love the woods, country and mountains and want to be close to Music City and would put a real good Studio in the house with all the instruments and would record every song that we write with a good sound and we could help other artists reach their goals of recording their demos, would of course buy a beautiful house and a car for my Mom in Ecuador, would invest some money in good deals with good advice, would visit some places in the world we want to travel, save enough and its very possible we would dedicate ourselves to sing full time producing ourselves......love and God bless...

I would put enough aside to pay for all my kids educations through college, build a house in Vermont, build a recording studio and begin doing what I believe I am supposed to be doing...making music and helping other people record thier music.

I would then give half of what was left to charity (which should be at least 25 million), put the other half into investments and live off the interest.

Fun dream!
