hello,

I'm the editor and publisher of IFS (read by over 4,000 readers)
we often help singers find songs. Below is a guideline of the kind of info a song search blurb ought to contain.

HOW to write an EFFECTIVE SINGER SEARCHING FOR SONGS BLURB

After seeing many "SINGER SEARCHING FOR SONGS" blurbs I've come to the conclusion that some are more effective than others. A blurb's effectiveness is determined by it's ability to get songwriters to take action and pitch their songs to the artist. Here are a few instructions for what may help people write more effective "Singer Searching for Songs" blurbs.

Here's the information an effective SINGER SEARCHING FOR SONGS BLURB
should contain:

1) Describe the Artist
name, age, sex, genre, location, highlights of a bio, awards,
website where can we see pics, hear recordings, and read the bio.
Also the website look and feel makes will make an impression, It lets
people know if the artist is dabbling or if they are serious.

2) Describe the Project, song need, and intended use once you find the songs
Tell us what to send, Tell us what not to send
Do a little name dropping if any industry players are involved
What do you plan to do with the music?
Is it for a for sale CD?
Is it for a not for sale demo
Do you just want some songs to try out and perform?
Is there a dead line?
How urgent is your need?
Do you need any particular songs specifically written for your project?

3) Tell us how to get songs to you
typically what is best is
a) URLs where you can go listen
b) snail mail address
c) if you have a fast connection you might allow people to email mp3 files

4) what else?
I encourage you to write in an interesting way to compel people to respond to your request. Use blurbs from industry pros.

I want IFS to be the reason you found all the great songs you did!

Here's a few other tips,

Tell the truth.

I think if you have some industry PROs working on your project it tends to indicate you're serious and talented and that there's some money behind the project.

If you're going to shop your demos to major labels, write it.

Keep in mind that other pitch sheets read IFS SSS blurbs and if they are impressed by the artist and their project they might mention your search in their tip sheets, giving your song search more muscle.

whether you're a songwriting looking to place your songs with artists or an artist hoping to find the very best songs for your project, good luck and I hope this helps

Dear Ande,
So do YOU hook artists up with songs? Do they have to be songs that have music to them already, or can they be just lyrics?
just curious,

hello,

sorry it took so long to respond to this.
I just found it
for these purposes, artists are looking for fully written songs, occasionally I have a producer friend who will consider lyrics only but usually I screen them for him to make sure they fit his need and are well written.

here's how I help artists, singers and producers find songs for their projects

An artist who is looking for original songs sends me a blurb about themselves and their project. Then I send their blurb out to "Inspirations for Songwriters"
Songwriters read it, then if they feel they have a song that fits the artists needs or project they can send the artist an email or CD with details.

I'm also happy to help film producers and music supervisors find quality original songs for their film projects.

My thought is if people have more songs to search through it will increase their chances of finding exactly what they are looking for.

Some songwriters jealously guard this kind of information. I want my songs to be chosen. But I think and hope they can stand up to the competition

hope this helps,

WRITING LYRICS FOR ARTISTS

the other thing I do is write songs/ lyrics with artists or producers for a particular artist

to do this I must get inside the artists head, heart, and soul to find out what might fit.

So I study the artists current catalog
to find out:

how good they are

what they've expressed so far

what kind of artist they are

what they might be missing

I interview artists and ask them to please artists to please tell me more about them

their lives,

who they are,

where they live,

what they do

their age age

the kind of artist they are genre

pics

audio clips

their hopes, dreams, and fears,

what artists they love

what songs they love

stories from their lives

poetry they might have written

lyrics they started and got stuck writing

I ask them to open the door to their hearts and souls and maybe I can find something they are longing to express
that millions can relate to

JPF Friends I have a question.

Let's say an artist who writes a GREAT SONG SEARCH BLURB wants to do a VERY extensive song search.

It will greatly help her to send it to me to run in IFS
and it will help her to post her search at JPF, but now where else should she look?

What other sites should she post on the web?

What should she do next to leave no stone unturned in her search for hit songs?

I'm convinced artists will get better responses to their song searches if they write a better blurb, get industry pro's involved in their projects, and do a great job spreading the word.

still happy to help singers search for songs,

even if you write songs, I still think it's SMART for artists to do a song search when they are about to record a CD

I was talking with a friend of mine who is in a band and tends to
write most of the songs by himself. I suggested that even if he
writes most of his songs by himself, he should still cowrite with
the best writers who are willing to write with him and he should do
song searches when he's about to record a CD,
1. to find a songs that blow him away and
2. to get his name and project known by industry insiders

I also suggested that he should consider one or two cover songs to
get more people to find him on itunes and other digital music
websites.

it helps to write a great blurb

I suggest all artists should do a song search even if they write most or all of their own songs

I want to help people find the GEMS they need to take their music careers to the next level
