here's another article about it ande Graceland 'All Shook Up' Over Elvis Presley's Last Remaining Song Now Available on eBay MEMPHIS, Tenn., Feb. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Songwriter Paul Terry King co- author of such hits as "Love in the First Degree," sung by Alabama, and "Idabel," sung by Elvis, is auctioning his interest in the only known available Elvis song titled "If I'd Only Bought Her Roses." Presley and King co-wrote the song in 1973 and performed it privately. It was the last song written by Elvis and King prior to Elvis's death that remains unreleased and unpublished. On December 16, 2004, show-biz wheeler dealer Robert FX Sillerman, who built live entertainment powerhouse SFX, agreed to pay $100 million to Lisa Marie Presley for an 85% controlling stake in Elvis Presley Enterprises. The deal gives Sillerman the rights to use Presley's name and likeness, as well as the royalties from the King's music, films and TV specials. He plans to aggressively market the Elvis brand worldwide through his new company CKX (NY Daily News 12/16/2004). With Sillerman's acquisition of the Presley's estate, Sillerman let this song slip through the cracks; and as of now, retains a minority interest in the song, "If I'd Only Bought Her Roses." Paul Terry King now holds the majority interest 50%, in the last known unpublished song of Elvis Presley's estate. (See BMI.com, record # 6562846) Devoted fans, music enthusiasts, entrepreneurs and or entertainers can now bid and get copyright and performance rights to one of the most prized possessions of the King himself, his music. This opportunity will never be available to the public again. eBay will monitor bids and the auction is offered through eBay's trading partner Mike Waters of Sidon Investments LLC. Bidding opened Thursday at $10,000 at 8:30PM MST. For additional information go to eBay item #4074240562. For interview contact Mike Waters at 801-628-5323 or Mike@4rl.us. here's the EBAY URL http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=618&item=4074240562&rd=1 here's the text from the page Elvis Presley Song written in 1973 Never released.
Graceland "All Shook Up" over Elvis Presley's last remaining song Elvis Presley Winning Bid will receive controlling interest to the Elvis Presley-Terry King Copyright PAu-1-810- 413 as recorded in the United States register of copyright and patents office. "If I'd Only Bought Her Roses." * By: Elvis Presley & Paul Terry King *written, words and music by Terry King and Elvis Presley in 1973 This is a one of a kind, one time only item that will be sold to the highest bidder. All information in this auction has been approved and monitored by ebay. Co-own this song with one of the entertainment industries power brokers Robert Sillerman(See below). Produce sing and release yourself, or possibly join forces with Sillerman as he expands the Elvis empire worldwide. The Song is Legally Titled "If I'd Only Bought Her Roses" with BMI "Work #6562846" Written and sung by Elvis Presley but never released. This might possibly be the last song unreleased by Elvis Presley. BMI is an American performing rights organization that represents more than 300,000 songwriters, composers and music publishers in all genres of music. This song is registered with them, as well as the library of congress, and the United States Copyrights, and Trademarks offices. This can be simply verified by going to www.BMI.com selecting Search type in the work # and hit submit. You will see the songs legally registered title and the names of the writers/composers As Elvis Presley & Paul Terry King. As well this song is registered with the U.S. Copyright Office: http://www.copyright.gov/records/cohm.html PAu-1-810-413 (COHM) ITEM 1 OF 1 IN SET 1 See the auction pictures for some of the personal items I have from Terry King to further substantiate these claims. Terry King's music career started in 1968 at American Recording Studios in Memphis Tennessee, He's had the great honor of writing songs with many great writers and artists and even the King himself! He wrote this song with Elvis which they co-owned 50/50 with Elvis having the controlling interest in the song. "On December 16, 2004, show biz wheeler dealer Robert FX Sillerman, who built live entertainment powerhouse SFX, agreed to pay $100 million to Lisa Marie Presley for an 85% controlling stake in Elvis Presley Enterprises. Elvis has left the building, 85% of the estate of Elvis Presley has been sold, marking the end of an era for an American icon. "Sillerman's new company, CKX, will also operate Graceland. But the actual ownership of the Elvis fan-Mecca as well as Presley's personal affects, will remain the property of Lisa Marie. "If you say Elvis to anybody, they know what you're talking about," Sillerman told the Daily News yesterday. "He continues to generate the most revenues of any deceased artist." As die-hard Elvis fans continue flocking to Graceland, buying his glitzy white suits, and rocking to his tunes, his estate racked up $38 million in sales and more than $9 million in profits in the first nine months of 2004. But Sillerman thinks he can do better by pushing the limit on Elvis products. He sees untapped markets, like the Far East, Germany and Las Vegas." (Entertainment Weekly) With Sillerman's partial acquisition of the Presley's estate Sillerman let this slip through the cracks and as of now retains a minority interest in the song "If I'd Only Bought Her Roses". Paul Terry King now holds the majority interest, 50% in last known unpublished song of Elvis Presley's estate. (See BMI # 6562846. Devoted fans, music enthusiasts, entrepreneur or entertainer can now bid and get copyright and performance rights, etc... to one of the most prized possessions of the King himself, his music. "I was a songwriter at American Studios in Memphis in 69 -70 before moving to Laurel Canyon, California where the song was wriiten, I grew up in a musical family. He has written 86 Songs for major artists Like Alabama, Elvis Presley etc.... See the pictures on the listing for his whole portfolio of songs he has written. In Paul Terry Kings Own Words: Heres' a little bio of American Studios: "Chips Moman and American Sound gained a reputation for producing hit records. What made the studio so special? What made the studio special was a combination of things, and what a lot of people never did figure out is that it really all starts with good songs. I spent more time chasing down songs than anything else. The reason American was so successful started with all the great songs we were able to work with. We just combined that with the best musical talent and state of the art equipment. It was a total team effort, and once things got rolling, the great singing artists kind of came to us. People don’t realize that studios themselves don’t mean as much as most people think. It’s just another instrument that’s a part of making a song. The legendary studio musicians, the ‘827 Thomas Street Band’, obviously played a big part. How important were they in the sound created at American Studios? The 827 Thomas St. Band was the main part of the whole American Group. (At this juncture Bobby Emmons who was sitting in during the interview, had some appropriate comments. Chips and Bobby have co-written songs such as "Luckenbach", Bobby Emmons: All of the group had something to bring to the mix. At first besides Chips and me, we had Reggie (Young Guitar), Gene (Chrisman Drums), and Tommy (Cogbill Bass), then Bobby (Woods Piano) and then Mike (Leech Bass). All of our musical backgrounds varied, and they sort of merged to help create our sound. From those early recordings at American we had #1 hits on the charts that covered music categories such as easy listening, rock, soul, and even a #1 jazz album. We all just worked as a team, with Chips as the leader. At one particular time we had hits on every billboard chart except "classical". And we also had our own way of working that some people didn’t like. We always waited for the mood, or the feeling to hit us before we started "picking" and recording tracks. There might be a card game or something going on, and we could be doing something non-music related for hours and then the mood would hit and we’d all get a groove going and then we would record. All of these things; starting with a great song, great musicians, great equipment, having the mood right, and matching it with the great singing artists coming through, these are the ingredients that make music special." More Words from Paul Terry King from a recent interview. Q: What was the circumstances around which the song was written ? A: We were both getting divorced by our 14 yr old child brides. about the same time of red west and bodyguards betrayal of elvis in their tell all book Elvis
Q: WHat else happened that day? A: Whathappened? He was pissed. even more so when I told him I was the one that wrote the melody and main choris of Seperate Ways, a song to lisa his daughter who he loved greatly not Red and Richard Mainegra as the copyright records indicate as writers! Q: So you (Terry king) and Elvis just sat down and wrote that song that day? A: We did most of it but he could not finish recording it in one session for he had to stop and cry the words and melody touched him so deeply. This is one of the main reasons I got a letter of recommendation from american studios? (See auction pic of letter of commendation) Q: So was there anyone else (Besides the recording studio staff) with you guys when you recorded the song ? A: There was someone with him I dont know who. It was late when they drove up. Q: We have had several questions asked about other people you knew around this time to substantiate your claim further. A: My roomates at the time was Tandyn Almer (Along Comes Mary) in laurel canyon Hollywood. Q: Do you have any other evidence to further prove your story? A: You mean besides my registration with BMI, and my U.S. Copyright? Well I still got the stamped dated envelope from Press MUSICTREE INTRNATIONAL with the address on it and a johnny carson playing card a friend gave me in my wallet today from that night. Q: Their is a tape at the US Copyright office of the song is it just you singing the song or Elvis as well? A: Just me, I actually had a reel to reel of me and Elvis singing it but it was destroyed in a trailer fire. Q: We recently received a challenge from a nationwide recognized Elvis expert he is a little skeptical of this whole thing what do you say to that? A: Thats fine bring it on, I aint afraid of the truth I believe he is a Reno Nevada Sherrif, I invite him and any other Doubting Thomas on a talk show and I will be more than happy to kleer up all of these issues. Q: We have had several requests for the lyrics even for a single verse if you can. A: Ok here is the first verse of the song:
But if i'd known then , what i know now! I'd a played she'd still be mine, If If i'd -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We have had several Emails asking if this is a scam. This is most certainly not a SCAM This song is the real deal. The accusations that this is a scam are 100% false. Please read the auction carefully their is an uncontested US copyright recorded as well as BMI verifies the facts. Ebay has made special exceptions for this auction to have links in it so we could establish the truth of these things: Paul Terry King also wrote: "W'ere gonna do our love up right" With Bill Dees. Bill Dees wrote "Pretty Woman" recorded by Roy Orbison, and Van Halen For the scoffers: Mr King is an outstanding songwriter with a long and credible career, anyone that doubts that has not checked the proper references. This song is 100% legit and remains uncontested everywhere its recorded. The only contests as to its authenticity come from people who have not checked the facts. Mr King is available for interview anytime and many scoffers have called him and after talking to him have changed their opinion to agree with ours. One More Thing: We have also faxed a notification to Robert Sillermans company notifying them of the auction, and they have brought no contest against this auction either. For all we know they are intending to bid on it. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The winning Bidder Will Also Get: A copy of a letter dated June 20, 1997 on Graceland Letterhead. The letter instructs Mr King to forward the requests he has been sending to them, instead to the William Morris Agency. (This letter was Mr King Attempting to find who at the presley estate to sell "If I'd only Bought her Roses") I will also provide a copy of an email from BMI back in April of 2003. This email asks Terry King Specifically if he had had luck selling the song to the Elvis Presley Estate. (This Challenges BMI recent press release about the song "If I'd Only Bought her Roses.") In this same email it also acknowledged that they were interested in brokering a deal with Terry King to Sell the song to the Elvis Presly Estate. I will also provide a copy of the Mock Trial Case from 1997 as used by the Tennessee bar association for training attorneys. Kind of interesting and entertaining to read. (Curiously enough Terry King is also mentioned in this fictional Trial transcript)

Heck. I think i better put the reserve price up on the song I have for sale on The Tunus site. After all it is a full song. Not just a part of one that will no doubt end up i a court case one day. I've been told I think too cheap. Graham ------------------ IP: Logged |

LOL. That was one of the lines that cracked me up in this one Rodney. Laughed out loud when I read your post. The other big.laugh was wondering what sort of critique the lyric to the song , as suggested by the partial sample of it above, would have recieved on the lyrics forums. It's okay folks. Don't worry. I have written a way better take of it and about to music it now ready to go on the tune aution site. Graham ------------------ IP: Logged |

Here's a few QUESTIONs Why would this writer sell his interest in this song? Maybe He made efforts to exploit it, which got stalled by the presley estate. His he selling 50% of his interest? Is he keeping the publishing? let's say someone buys it wonder if there'll be a mad rush once it gets close to being over. the site has gotten 12,377 hits here's the EBAY URL I just hope who ever winds up buying it can easily afford, rather than someone who has to hurry, scrape, and put themself in peril. Dudes! Big fat whatever!!!!!! I loved the King very much. But this crap is just nuts! You know who is next in line for the big treatment, is Ray Charles. It is already starting. Elvis has made more money six feet under than when he was with us.... IP: Logged |

Lets face it Michael. Elvis was never a great writer. The few he had a credit on were co-writes, and i bet the colabs did most of the work. Ray Charles wrote hardly any. Matter of fact I can't recall seeing one he did in fact write. That don't stop me thinking he was one of the best entertainers ever in my time. Ya famous, folks will try to get a spin off ya falling off ya perch. It is all the fan's fault for buying the stuff they flog anyway. Can't blame a bloke for wanting to make a quid. They don't force the fans to buy the stuff. Some sweet folks like me will maybe write tributes to them, not to make a buck, but simply because they were mourning. Us old blues blokes are like that particularly. Graham ------------------ IP: Logged |
