2003/2004 Just Plain Folks Best Lyric Award
---------------------------------------------
NOTE: We extended the deadline for entry into the Lyric Awards because we learned of a technical glitch that didn't allow people to get to the entry page via the home page. We will extend it to at least January 15th (or until a couple days after the next email newsletter so folks get a working link and a chance to post). Sorry for the trouble but the glitch was just pointed out today, December 30th).
------------------------------------------
I am including the Guidelines Here at the top of the first page for folks to refer to. Remember to include your full name on your Lyric Post. Do NOT number your post. We will do that for you. Also, only post 1 Lyric.
---------------------------------------
2003/2004 Lyric Award Guidelines:

We are ready to launch the 2003/2004 Best Lyric Award process on the website. If you want to enter, it is free, but you must be a member and registered on the JPFolks.com message boards and follow the guidelines posted there. Here are the rules we have set up.

You and your fellow members will do the screening for the nominations, but we've improved the process after last year to make it easier for everyone. Last year we had 500+ entries, and it was tough for folks to read through all of them to vote on their 5 favorites. So this year, you'll only be asked to pick your 5 favorites out of 50 on 1 page (each page holds 50 lyrics, see last years entries to see what I am talking about). We will award 5 points for each first place vote down to 1 point for the 5th place vote. We'll then take the top songs from each page and then have an second round on the top 50 overall only so that the process is much easier and efficient and every song has an equal chance of being read and considered.

The entry/voting dates are as follows:

Dec 1st, 2003-January 15th, 2004: This is the window to post your lyric. Each member can post 1 lyric in their name. If it is co-written by multiple members, it will only count against 1 member. (the one posting it.) We will need full names given for each writer. We will request full contact info for each nominee once they are announced. You can enter any lyric you wish, except for lyrics entered in 2002.

Jan 27th-Feb 20th: We will have voting by actual members on their 5 favorite lyrics (in order) from an assigned page via email once the posting/entry deadline passes. Voting will be confidential. The end date may be adjusted if needed by us to complete the process. But we will give advanced notice if the date is changed. We will take the top 50 (or less if there are less than 500 entries this year, but not more than 50) lyrics and place them on a final nomination page for final voting.

March 2004: We will post the final lyrics on one page in March and have open nomination voting to reach the final nominees. We will post the info on this stage when we are done tabulating and verifying all the votes. We will announce the nominations on the same day we announce the rest of the 2003/2004 award nominees.

Awards: We will announce the Lyric of the Year winner live in the summer 2004 in Los Angeles at our 2003/2004 Music Awards.

Voting Requirement: Because we do the awards free, it's necessary to use our own community to help get the mass of lyrics to the nominations stage. Instead of charging you 30 dollars to enter like a lot of "contests", instead we are requiring your direct participation in the judging process. To make it much easier than last year, we have a new system to do this which shouldn't require more than an hour or two of your time instead of weeks like last year.

After the deadline has come for entering lyrics, we will email each participant a page to vote on. Each page holds 50 Lyrics. You will choose your 5 favorite in order from 1st to 5th and email your votes to the assigned email address. (Complete instructions will be sent to all participants). When you vote, you will automatically receive 6 points (A first place vote gets you 5 points, so this is 1 better) towards your own lyric. If you choose not to vote, then you can still participate, but you're 6 points in the hole to all those who do. Because this year you won't be able to vote on your own "page" there are no conflicts in voting for your own lyric in Round 1. We will not allow those who move on to round 2 to vote any further in the process.

If we missed something, or you have questions, please email us here.
---------------------------------------
Instructions on how to post your lyric:

If you are new to these message boards, the way you post a new lyric is to click the button on the top right of the screen that says "Post Reply." Then you should PASTE your lyric into the box. We suggest you type it OFF LINE first, in case you have a problem posting, we don't want you to have to re-type all that text again. Use the Copy/Paste funtion on your computer to do this.

Once you have pasted all the text (which should include full title of the lyric, the full name of all the writers and the copyright date) click on the "Submit New Topic" button at the bottom of the page.

If you need to edit your lyric, you are welcome to do so. You click the icon above the post with the Pencil and Paper. This will open your post so you can delete text, add text etc... You can't completely delete your entire post, you can only remove the text from it. If you need your lyric entry deleted (i.e. you aren't going to enter any lyric) then contact a moderator for their assistance.

Remember, you must be registered to post your lyric entry. This is completely separate from being a Just Plain Folks member and getting the newsletter. To register here, simple click the link on the top right that says "register" and follow the instructions. You will choose your own username and a password will be emailed to the email address you supply. Be sure to remember to type in both your user name and password CASE SENSITIVE or it won't work.

If you've previously registered, but can't remember you password or user name, you can have it emailed to you by clicking the link that says "forgot password?" in the preferences section (under the link that says "profile.")

If you have additional questions about any of this process, please post them on the Post Marked "2003 Lyric Award Guidelines and Discussion" and someone will answer it for you usually the same day.
-----------------------------------
So.. here we go again folks! Good luck to everyone!

Brian

All We Can Hope For

nobody is at peace
all of the time
nobody is pleased
by nonchalant crime

the theft of jubilation
from breath to breath
sexiness fades from creation
till we mock life with death

Unrelenting circumstance
We chance to weather
Listening for a knock
Light as a feather. . .
Moments of romance
Echoing the cry for evermore
To make it to the dance
Is all we can hope for.

life isn't meant to be
some everlasting liberty
there's no buffering
the pain and suffering

the universe and it's beauty
a cause for celebration
a sense of fate and duty
for moments of elation

Unrelenting circumstance
We chance to weather
Listening for a knock
Light as a feather. . .
Moments of romance
Echoing the cry for evermore
To make it to the dance
Is all we can hope for.

reality is clear blue skies
reality is the eye of a hurricane
reality is the aura of surprise
when a spark turns into a flame

Unrelenting circumstance
We chance to weather
Listening for a knock
Light as a feather. . .
Moments of romance
Echoing the cry for evermore
To make it to the dance
Is all we can hope for.

Closer to Ourselves

Two A.M. the other night
We were focused on our faults
We reached the silent treatment
After damage done to the walls

You think that you know me
It ain't always easy
I've gone exploding

Each word that we say
Opens us inside and brings us Closer
Each word that we share
Opens us outside and brings us Closer to Ourselves

Time we spend on working hard
Keeps us missing each other's smiles
We seek that special feeling
To try and stop the pain that we find

I think that I know you
I cannot assure you
You've gone exploding

Each word that we say
Opens us inside and brings us Closer
Each word that we share
Opens us outside and brings us Closer to Ourselves

Life like to feed the shadow of a doubt
I let it go and let you in
We've got this need it's what we're all about
Releasing fear of rejection

Each word that we say
Opens us inside and brings us Closer
Each word that we share
Opens us outside and brings us Closer to Ourselves

One More Chance At Love

Words and Music by Emily Sanders
Copyright 1995

Had my share of heartache
Wish I didn't care about love anymore
Gettin' to the point - don't want to wait
For someone to come knockin' at my door

Chorus:
(Just give me) one more chance
One more chance at love
Give me a little romance
Someone to dream of
One more chance, then I'll have enough
Just give me one more chance
One more chance at love

Wish I could find someone new
A man to be lover and friend
I'm ready for it all now, a love that's true
Just want to get that feeling again

Chorus:
(So give me) one more chance
One more chance at love
Give me a little romance
Someone to dream of
One more chance, then I'll have enough
Just give me one more chance
One more chance at love

Bridge:
I can't pretend that I don't mind the wait
Just want a true love that's all mine
I tell myself, "It's not too late,
The right one will come along in time"

Chorus:
(So give me) one more chance
One more chance at love
Give me a little romance
Soemone to dream of
One more chance, then I'll have enough
Just give me one more chance
One more chance at love

In a Universe of Love
Sends You a Sunset So Beauiful Y'Almost Cry
'Cuz Y'Know He Cares Enough

He's in every Kitten's M'yow

He's in every Rainbow's Vow

(CHORUS)
God's in Everything You See
If..You Open Up Your Eyes
He Sent this Earth to You and Me
As..A Hint of Paradise
(Yeah, God's Like That!)

He's in Every Hope Fulfilled

Crazy Is My Name

(C) 2003 by W.L. "Bill" Cooper

V-1
Some say it’s right and some say wrong
while brave young soldier’s die.
Each evening when the news comes on
I want to sit right there and cry.
Yellow ribbons tied around the trees
well life just ain’t the same.
If it’s crazy wanting peace on earth.
Then Crazy Is My Name.

(Chorus)
Been crazy since that rainy day
I bid my heart farewell.
When one you love stands in harms way
you’ll know why war is hell.
Is it crazy to stand up and say
war is just a losers game
There has to be a better way
or Crazy Is My Name.

V-2
Can’t say it’s wrong to set things right
and freedom must endure.
But is justice lost without this fight
well I’m just not that sure.
The rich and poor, the weak and strong
let's treat everyone the same.
Yeah if the golden rule is crazy
Then crazy is my name.

(Chorus)
Been crazy since that rainy day
I bid my heart farewell.
When one you love stands in harms way
you’ll know why war is hell.
Is it crazy to stand up and say
war is just a losers game
There has to be a better way
or Crazy Is My Name.

bridge
Please raise your torch sweet Liberty
try to find a better way.
Don’t take the heart and soul from me
it’s a price too high to pay.

(Chorus)
Been crazy since that rainy day
I bid my heart farewell.
When one you love stands in harms way
you’ll know why war is hell.
Is it crazy to stand up and say
war is just a losers game
There has to be a better way
or Crazy Is My Name.

Until my baby's in my arms again.

Dog Tags In the Dust

Tom had been a farm boy from Oklahoma
no college degree...just a high school diploma
he joined up when he was just a teen-ager
thirty years on...set to retire as a Major

countless battles, shrapnel scars and his poor back ached
but there was one last mission he just had to take
for his dad had told him stories about fighting Japan
and nothing was sadder for his father than

dog tags in the dust
dog tags in the dust
ambushes and personnel mines
sometimes brother all they find
are dog tags in the dust

blazing heat somewhere 'long the Afghan border
a supply truck had been hit by mortar
base camp got a message from the driver
he was done for but there was one survivor

Tom begged the colonel for a five man team
locked and loaded, they rallied hard and mean
Tom recalled how he'd been rescued back in 'Nam
that it's not do or die it's do or be damned

dog tags in the dust
dog tags in the dust
men perish in mud and flames
hoping someone remembers the names
on dog tags in the dust

come sundown the sky and sand were both a burnt umber
and distant bombing echoed like heaven's thunder
Tom saw a one-armed boy playing in an impact crater
he asked some questions through an Army translator

that kid led Tom's men 'round a hillside bend
where they found Tom's son weeping for his dead friend
Tom's son went home but his heart's in Afghanistan
for nothing's sadder for a soldier than

dog tags in the dust
dog tags in the dust
wars aren't won they're survived
and if you don't make it out alive
there's dog tags in the dust

dog tags in the dust
dog tags in the dust

SUBMISSION FOR THE LYRIC CONTEST

ONLY GOD LOVES GIRLS WHO PLAY GUITAR by Kathryn Grimm ©2003
www.kathryngrimm.com

I’ve had more ups and downs than a merry-go-round
I’ve cried myself to sleep more than I’ve counted sheep
I sang alone sometimes wondering if I’d lost my mind
Then I’d pick up my guitar and play it to the stars
Now I know the mystery
Now I understand

CH: Only God loves girls who play guitar
It doesn’t matter that I haven’t gotten very far
‘Cuz I’m playing to the highest power
No gig can compare
Only God loves girls who play guitar

I used to feel so sad about the things I didn’t have
The fortune and the fame – I just couldn’t win the game
I’d sing like a bird only wanting to be heard
Then I’d rock the night away just to face another day
But I’m not begging anymore
I’ve got the biggest fan

CH: Only God loves girls who play guitar
It doesn’t matter that I haven’t gotten very far
‘Cuz I’m playing to the highest power
No gig can compare
Only God loves girls who play guitar

Bridge: I just didn’t know who was listening
I didn’t realize what was real to me
I didn’t know I didn’t need all these silly things
I couldn’t live – I couldn’t give
‘Till they knew my name

Now “no” is just another word
Since my discovery, that

CH: Only God loves girls who play guitar
It doesn’t matter that I haven’t gotten very far
‘Cuz I’m playing to the highest power
No gig can compare
Only God loves girls who play guitar

Only God loves girls who play guitar
The world may never know my name but I’m his lucky star
‘Cuz I’m playing to the highest power
No gig can compare Only God loves girls who play guitar

Tongue-In-Groove
©2003 Words & Music by Robert Kvinnesland

[verse 1]
Well I’m no builder, nor a builder’s son,
But I will give some advice until a true builder comes,
'Bout the art and the craft of working that wood,
When a joint's not connecting like you know it should...
There’s a trick-o’-the-trade that master builders use...
A tried-and-true tactic all inspectors approve!
It’s called...

[chorus]
Tongue-in-groove!
(Yeah) Tongue-in-groove!
It’s the time-tested method real handymen use...
Tongue-in-groove!
Tongue-in-groove!
It’s a sure-fire system that is sure to enthuse...
Before the nailing ensues and all that banging accrues,
Think “Tongue-in-groove”!
(Yeah) Tongue-in-groove!

[verse 2]
You know a stud is long and a stud is strong,
But there are just some times when a stud fits wrong,
So if a joist is weak or a joint needs a tweak,
Take the task in hand,
(And take that tongue out of your cheek!)
It’s the master technique that real craftsmen use,
And it’s guaran-A-teed to make your home improve!
It’s called…

[chorus]

[short instrumental, then “Take it, professor”]

[bridge (sung/spoken in an erudite manner)]
They used it on the Eiffel
And in London for the queen,
Had they fashioned it in Pisa
Then that tower wouldn’t lean...
Exercised it in Florence,
Realized it in Ghent...
But never in Atlantis...
And look where they went!
It worked in ancient Greece
For each Acropolis and edifice,
Except for one disastrous time
Attempted by King Oedipus!

They had the wood to try it
In the doorways of Valhal...
Utilized it even more ways
When they built the Taj Mahal,
Every nation and persuasion
Has been known to enjoy it...
All through the Occident and Orient
The builders employ it...
The Muslims and Christians,
The Hindus and Jews,
The Chinese and English,
Even Zulus and Bantus... use

[chorus]

[verse 3]
So if you wanna be a builder, be it north or be it south,
Know that best advertising is always word of mouth...
When you’re plying the trade just be sure to do your part,
Take a hold of that craft and turn it more into an art,
Don’t you worry ‘bout the noise, hell let the neighbors move,
‘Cause there’s no union site that’s gonna ever refuse... that

[chorus]

[close with the usual fade-out, vamp, whatever... you know the drill!]

YOU'RE SO FAR AWAY

Hey there, you've caught my eye.
And I've been wondering why
Such a girl like you should be
Just a stranger to me.
I watch you and wonder when
Will I ever see you again?

You're so far away.
I'm close enough to see you.
But not close enough to say
We should get together.
You're so far away -
So far away.

Hey there, you're impressing me.
Your good looks and charm are easy to see.
You're like a magnet to my heart -
An undertow that's pulled me from the start.
So I dream of you and hope some day
That you won't be so far away. But...

You're so far away.
I'm close enough to see you.
But not close enough to say
We should get together.
You're so far away -
So far away.

Music

Why can't we overcome our distance,
Give each other more than just a glance, '
Take that one big step to get together?
Maybe then we'll find we have a chance.But...

You're so far away.
I'm close enough to see you.
But not close enough to say
We should get together.
You're so far away -
So far away.

THE PAPAGAYO SONG (My Muse)

(Intro)
I got myself a guitar,
And I learned to strum a couple of chords,
But when I played my songs,
They always came out wrong,
So to my muse I implored.

(Verse 1)
The muse came down from the mountain
And she whispered in my ear,
She said, “I wanna teach you a song,
And it won’t take long,
Till the people gunna wanna hear,
You sing. . ..”

(Chorus)
Ohhh, papagayo
Baile papagayo
Cante, papagayo
Ohhhwhooo
She said, “I wanna teach you a song,
And it won’t take long,
Till you find your way out here.”

(Verse 2)
I asked the muse for a rhythm,
instead, she gave me bottle of rum
She said, “Drink it up son,
we’re gunna have some fun,
dancing in the tropical sun.”

(Chorus)
and we sang
Ohhh, papagayo
Baile, papagayo
Cante, papagayo
Ohhhwhooo
Drink up son,
we’re gunna have some fun,
Dancing in the tropical sun.

(Verse 3)
My muse is a treacherous beauty
She’s sexy, and she lies, and she cheats.
She can’t tell the truth,
But boy can she “Knock boots!”
She left me in between the sheets.

(Chorus)
And I cried,
Ohhh, papagayo
Baile, papagayo
Cante, papagayo
Ohhhwhooo
She can’t tell the truth,
But boy can she “knock boots,”
She left me in between the sheets.

(Verse 4)
My muse, she has departed,
For reasons left unknown,
She said give it up son,
tonight you ain’t the one,
Guess I gotta go it alone.

(Chorus)
Sooo I sang,
Ohhh, papagayo
Cante papagayo
Pop pop a gayo
Ohhhwhooo
She said give it up son,
tonight you ain’t the one,
Guess I gotta go it alone.
(end)

Henry Teel

(c)2003 Shandy Lawson (BMI)

Been a long time since we’ve spoken, you and I
Time is gone so fast
Leaving nothing much behind
I always thought by now I’d be
More like the flower than the vine
Been a long time since we’ve spoken, you and I

Been a long time since we’ve spoken, you and I
My boy has moved out west
And my grandson’s doing fine
He went and joined the army
I ought to visit them sometime
Been a long time since we’ve spoken, you and I

Helen died in ‘93
And I could use some company
Seems like the only one I talk to now is me
And this old house is so big
And it echoes with
Her things and the life we used to live
I suppose she’s happier now than me

Been a long time since we’ve spoken, you and I
Seems these days I have fewer ways
To occupy my time
At the end of the day, the radio fades
But the tune always survives
Been a long time since we’ve spoken, you and I

they crisscross in the dark
on the outskirts of Urbana
like the lines on the old man's hand
they roll beside the tracks
and the woods outside of Chester
in dots and broken dashes on the map
and some are dry and cracked
and some are washed away
some linger on like a fading tattoo
and they go to forgotten places
and they all have secret names
like Hardin's Run and Old Route 22

Chorus:
will you be my friend?
can I take you to the end?
can you show me where I've been?
can you say you knew me then?
this is my gravel road requiem
my gravel road requiem

I'm riding on a dirt road
in early summer in the dark
I never thought this place would be so wise
and the living room lights
from the houses on the hills
roll on by, disappear before my eyes
and I follow the line
traced out by the power lines
beyond the ridge and out of sight
but not out of my mind

Chorus:
will you be my friend?
can I take you to the end?
can you show me where I've been?
can you say you knew me then?
this is my gravel road requiem
my gravel road requiem

Bridge:
the engine burns
and I'm sleeping with my eyes half open
roll down the window to stay awake
this ain't the place to come looking for a change
I'm the one who's older
all my roads all look the same

just waiting on my muse
to sing me to sleep
just looking for inspiration
in the gravel at my feet
just looking for a back road
to teach me something about me
just looking out for something
a little lonelier than me

Chorus:
will you be my friend?
can I take you to the end?
can you show me where I've been?
can you say you knew me then?
this is my gravel road requiem
my gravel road requiem

“The Last Summer”
words and music
by Gail Lissauer (Gayle)
copyright 2002
nakedsoullb@hotmail.com

Will the sun burn away the clouds
Will the ocean breeze cool my pain
On a journey started when I was born
On my last summer in this world
Will I know I won’t be back again
That last summer in this world

Will the pelicans still dive from the sky
Will the surfers ride waves so high
On a journey started when I was born
On my last summer in this world
Will I laugh, will I cry
That last summer in this world

Will I dream of my future, of my past
Will it feel like it went by too fast
On a journey started when I was born
On my last summer in this world
Can I find a way to make time last
That last summer in this world

Now the summer sun slips into night
Darkness has one last dance with light
On a journey started when I was born
On my last summer in this world
A silence caresses the cooling sands
That last summer in this world

La, la, la, la, la (through entire verse/chorus one time)…

Tag:
A silence caresses the cooling sands
That last summer in this world (X three)

Undertow©2003
Mary Lou Sudkamp, BMI

V1
It was painless really
I heard lots of stories about it
I didn’t think it could happen to me
But I want to warn you
It can happen when you least expect it
And it’s gonna getcha, just you wait and see …

CHORUS
Got caught off guard …
Didn’t see it coming
Stood there paralyzed
When I should have took off running
Thought I’d just wade in
But the current dragged me in
Then I was caught in the undertow … of love!

V2
I know what you’re thinking
You know all the signs and symptoms
And you know how to play the game so well
But you’re foolin’ yourself
Doesn’t matter if you’re young or old, friend
You’ll gladly surrender, when you’re under its spell

CHORUS
Got caught off guard …
Didn’t see it coming
Stood there paralyzed
When I should have took off running
Thought I’d just wade in
But the current dragged me in
Then I was caught in the undertow … of love!

BRIDGE
You may think you can test the waters
Without going in too far
But before you even know it …

CHORUS
You’re caught off guard …
Didn’t see it coming
Stood there paralyzed
When you should have took off running
Thought you’d just wade in
But the current dragged you in
Then you’re caught in the undertow … of love!

TAG Yeah, you’re caught in the undertow … caught in the undertow … of love!

“I’ll Be Okay (Nikki’s Song)”
By: Patty Whitehead
(c) 2003 Patty Whitehead
www.pattyonline.2ya.com

Why don’t you ever laugh?
Why don’t you ever smile?
You’re so young
Yet you dread the mile
You’re torn by the past
Of days gone horribly wrong
Days too painful
To word into a song

You might think you’re hopeless
But that, my dear, is not true…

And in the middle of the night
When you begin to cry
Just close your eyes and say,
“Tonight I’ll be okay.”

What about your passions?
What about your dreams?
They’ll be gone
If you make your scene

You might think you’re hopeless
But that, my dear, is not true…

And in the middle of the night
When you begin to cry
Just close your eyes and say,
“Tonight I’ll be okay.”

Life’s not easy
No one said that it would be
And when you look in that mirror
I see a past reflection of me

I wasn’t hopeless and neither are you

So when you’re world is falling down
And you cannot get out…
If the day’s too much to take
And you’re about to break…
And in the middle of the night
When you begin to cry
Just close your eyes and say,
“Tonight I’ll be okay.”

"Hot To Trot" by Linda P. Torres c1998

verse 1.

She never makes a pretense
Bein' something that she's not
She won't ask for commitments
Or try'n put you on the spot
She'll never try'in trap you
Cause that's not her cup of tea
She has her set of standards
Call-it vir-tu-al-ity
But when it comes to havin' fun
Her number's in the book
Then lookout boy she'll drive you wild
This gal can really cook

Chorus

She' hot to trot-ready or not
Now lookout here she comes
She'll make you so damned crazy
That you'll wakeup with sore gums
She'll make you tear your hair out
And go runnin' back for more
But when the party's over friend
Don't think you're gonna score

verse 2

She has a way about her,
Makes a grown man wanna' scream
You'll ask yourself "did I do that?
Or was it just a dream!"
You'll lose your cool
She'll make you drool,
But let you know for sure
That when the party's over
You ain't gettin' past her door
And she'll take you to high places
That you know you've never been
But don't let your good looks fool ya' bud!
You just ain't gettin' in

chorus
She's hot to trot-ready or not
That girl'l blow your mind
Ain't lookin' for no wedding ring
Just for a real good time
She'll make you rip your hair out
Put your tail right in a spin
But don't try'n go no further Jack
You just ain't gettin' in

(slow down)

Now don't misunderstand me....
This little girl she ain't no tease
She's just a real sweet party hound
Who'll drive you to your knees
So if you have the courage..
Drop your quarter in that slot
And dial this number in the book
BUT LET ME WARN YA
This girl is really hot to trot

"Try Imagining" lyric by Gregory Watton

(V1)
You and I
Will live our lives
As if we live
On the silver screen
Together
We will be on
A great adventure
Sailing away past fantasies

(lift)
Sometimes when things get tough
Will it ever cross your mind
You think you might have had enough
And if you do

(chorus)
Try Imagining
If we didn't have this love forever
Would we ever want to stay together
Try imagining
If the future wasn't ours to face
Would our memories have been erased
Try imagining
Everything in our worlds would change
If we let ourselves get out of range
Try imagining

(V2)
I wonder
When we wander
If time will stop
And hold our memories
Would we find
A place to hide
Or take one step further
Away from fears and mysteries

(lift)
Sometimes when things get tough
Will it ever cross your mind
You think you might have had enough
And if you do

(chorus)
Try Imagining
If we didn't have this love forever
Would we ever want to stay together
Try imagining
If the future wasn't ours to face
Would our memories have been erased
Try imagining
Everything in our worlds would change
If we let ourselves get out of range
Try imagining

(bridge)
I'd be lost without you
I couldn't live without you
You're the air that I have to breathe

(chorus)X2
Try Imagining
If we didn't have this love forever
Would we ever want to stay together
Try imagining
If the future wasn't ours to face
Would our memories have been erased
Try imagining
Everything in our worlds would change
If we let ourselves get out of range
Try imagining

(outro)

Sip My Whiskey

You know its crazy how this world spins
Sometimes you're finished before you begin
A touch of innocence and a piece of sin
I'm mixing fire with a whirlwind

Legs of the Heavens and lips like rain
She's running through me like a runaway train
A night of pleasure for years of pain
I have everything to lose but nothing to gain

(Chorus)
You can sip my whiskey
If I can drink your wine
You can have my heart
If I can have your time
Sweet thing you fill my cup
So drink up, drink up, drink up
Drink up now baby

My empty bed makes for sleepless nights
Wild Turkey and barroom fights
She don't have to treat me right
I just want to leave with her tinight

(Chorus)

Venus green eyes and long brown hair
She's breaking my heart without a care
Over her shoulder I feel her cold, cold stare
Lord knows, Lord knows, her love ain't fare

(Chorus)

You can sip my whiskey

You can sip my whiskey
If I can drink your wine

You can have my heart
If I can have your time
Sweet thing,
You feel my cup
So drink up, drink up, drink up

Drink up now baby...

Cherokee Wind
©2000-2003 Carl Towns

(V1)
The summer wind is blowing in the valley
I can see the Eagle soaring high.
I can hear a lone Wolf howling,
speaking of another time.

(V2)
The Wolf did roam, in peace through the forest,
the Bison lived so wild and free,
suddenly men came and called it progress,
only a subtle name for greed.

(Chorus)
Cherokee Wind blowing gently through the trees.
Takes me back to the time when we were free.
I hear the song calling like a long lost friend,
It's the spirit of the Cherokee Wind. Oooohhh

(V3)
The brother cries and I often wonder.
If as man, we can ever hear.
what it is that he is really saying,
Will we ever move past our fears.
(REPEAT CHORUS)

(Recitation)
You can't judge a man by his color
you can't see the savage within
but the deeds that he may do to his brothers
will reveal the true hearts of men.
On the outside it doesn't really matter,
what I may appear to be,
for deep inside this earthen vessel,
beats the heart of the Cherokee.
(Repeat Chorus)

TAG: It's the spirit of the Cherokee Wind. Oooohhh

HEY MR. PRESIDENT

Hey Mr. President
Do you wanna hear a story?
The evening news it will take you around the world.
Clue you in on all the sad,sad situations
make you feel real blue.
So pay attention now,
'cuz underneath all that bull is the sad, sad truth.

Some of the beauty is still there
from sea to shimmering sea.
But in between it's no dream
reality is raging on
so take some time to take what you need
throw away that foolish greed.
It's choking you, feel you gotta let it go
and.......

(chorus) Take a ride around America
See the faces in the crowd
Take a ride around America
And you might see what it's all
about.

Hey Mr. Huge Man
can you feel the thoughts, so sad and confusing
a sad, sad situation
makes you understand the sad, sad truth.
Some of the beauty is still there
from sea to shimmering sea
but in between it's no dream
reality is raging on, so take some time to take what you need
throw away that hopeless greed
it's choking you
feel you gotta let it go
and........

(chorus) Take a ride around America
see the people in the crowd
Take a ride around America
and you may see what it's all
about.

Take a ride around America
and you will see the truth
that when you take a ride around
America.
It's still the home of the red,
white and blue.

Flight 1839
© Nov-2003 by Gena Sharpe

I was traveling with my family on flight 1839
At the airline gate were many soldiers in the line
Someone said they were coming home on 2-week leave
I was proud to be on this trip in such brave company

Chorus:
God Bless these soldiers on flight 1839
It is for my freedom that they risk their lives
I pray for safe passage as they journey on their way
And guide your shining light on them every single day

As we were waiting I heard a voice on the speaker say
Attention all passengers there’s gonna be a delay
We’ve got a storm coming in And we oversold our seats
And there’s some tired soldiers who’s got family to meet

Repeat Chorus

One by one we volunteered to take a later flight
So we could get these heros safely home that night
And as every solider ran to board on that plane
They turned and saluted us and I’ll never be the same

Repeat Chorus

And guide your shining light on them every single day

"On The Map"
by Casey Holford

i've got a map upon my wall; it shows me how to get around
it's got red and yellow veins; it's got trains and arteries
and a compass and a key for all the places left to be
i bought that thing three months ago, and it's already obsolete

a thousand neighborhoods in blue, and all the hospitals are red
and all the parks and all the cemeteries look about the same
and my block's a fingernail, and the airport is a brain
two inches to a mile scale, just like up in the aeroplane;

it seems to me that i can see a face if i just trace the lines.
and in that face, i can almost make out my place:
it's just dust in the eyes.

you can't walk very far, if all the bridges are locked down
you could walk across, but they won't let you into town
follow the exodus, walk on top of the cars,
i can mark you with a tack, i can show you where you are.

the lines are tied in knots, everybody's calling up to say
the same thing in stereo, a chorus on the speakerphone
but on the map, a time zone is just a different page
we took the window seat, and we won't look away.

six inches to the battery, and sixteen down to rockaway
i'll lay my head up in the park; i'll rest my feet down in the bay

i can't get to you on the phone; i'll just send a card instead.
the post offices are marked with little dots of red.

A better day

(c)2003 by Fernando Sanchez-Gutierrez

There's a nail in the clouds
that is pinning your dreams.
And the roses are closed
'cause their petals are made out of steel.
There's a key that is meant to unveil
your own future.
You are too exhausted, frustrated
too tired to find it.

There're streets overflowing
with loss and desire.
And the lights at night can barely
touch them.
When they walk they are unable
to look at each other.
Then they sit at their tables,
they are crying in silence

There's a sun in your eyes
through your tears there's a rainbow.
All the people are naked
despite of their clothing.
As you smile all the doors
that were closed are suddenly shaking.
There's a breeze through your soul
'cause your windows are opened.

Then tomorrow will be a better day.

The moon will jump over your head
and will create a white blanket
It will be warm, it will be soft
It will be enticing and charming.
Sure in your dreams you'll sing a chant
like an illusion of colors
And each of them will be a note
that'll paint the canvas of your life.

"Calling Me Back For More"
Copyright 2002 George T.Darany

Verse
Whispers at my window
Night falls to the sound of voices
Calling at my door
I thought I'd be dreaming
They said you'd be leaving
Now you're Calling Me Back For More

Verse
Thoughts now travel without me
Words are starting to doubt me
Memories hard to be ignored
Fragment images linger
Still I get the picture
You keep Calling Me Back For More

Bridge
Please don't go to sleep tonight
If you're not steady
They say you die in your dreams...
If you're not ready

Verse 3
Songs that fill the darkness
Noise that seemed so harmless
Now the silence starts to roar
Secret intuition
Lifelong hopes and wishes
Keep you Calling Me Back For More

Bridge
Please don't go to sleep tonight
If you're not ready
They say you die in your dreams...

Verse
Love cries like a sad ghost
I walk through the shadows
Hearts lie bleeding on the floor
Feelings falling and rising
Bombs are bursting inside me
Keeps you calling me back
You keep calling me back
Still you're Calling Me Back For More and more and more and more...

UNDOCUMENTED

So why, did you burden me?
With your crimes of infidelity
My guilty hands on the loot
Cuz I've tasted forbidden fruit
And I'm the one to blame
For this triangle game
Cuz I assured your conscience free
Cuz your secret is safe with me

So riddle me this and figure me why
You're bounded to comfort when you still need to fly
And me of all people keep this ship afloat
And watch picket white fences sit back and take note

In this situation I must confess
Your choice to choose me not one of your best
To fool with a love that is undocumented
Blind to the signs more than hearts are affected
And I can't lie I look at you differently
It's too close of proximity
For my opinion not to grow
And my respect to slowly go

So riddle me this and figure me why
You're bounded to comfort when you still need to fly
And me of all people keep this ship afloat
And watch picket white fences sit back and take note

Surface don't mean shit when you start to sift through it
And love's a four letter word with little to glue it
These days it seem nothing is sacred to you
I'm just a bystander, through and through
And I've censored myself For the first and last time
To fool with a love that has done you no crime
So my friend your secret is safe with me
Cuz I've eaten that fruit and shaked that tree

So riddle me this and figure me why
You're bounded to comfort when you still need to fly
And me of all people keep this ship afloat
And watch picket white fences sit back and take note

Seamus, Sean and Me

© 2003 John Hagius, All Rights Reserved

(Verse 1)
" 'Twas the spring of '67
Saw the dyin' of the fires.
The Finneans had risen
From the souterrains and the byres..."
So began the story
Of that wizened Shanachie,
And his tale of Irish heartbreak,
Told to Seamus, Sean and me.

(Chorus 1)
Jaysus, what an ugly man,
His face all lined and pale.
Knuckles gnarled, gray hair amuss,
That teller of the tales.
His voice was cracklin', dry as twigs,
That lay beneath the tree,
Where he sang the stories of our souls
To Seamus, Sean and me.

(Verse 2)
"Well, the croppies had their pitchforks,
The soldiers had their guns.
Mothers hid their daughters,
While fathers fetched their sons..."
And we sat, transfixed by images,
Of sights, we'd too soon see.
But he, alone, knew what would come,
Of Seamus, Sean and me.

(Instrumental break)

(Verse 3)
"Ah, lads, it was a horrid sight...
The slaughter and the stench.
The wee wanes, bathed in blood and gore
Their da's, from gallows, lynched..."
And a chill wind blew across the bog
Where we sat beside his knee,
As teardrops welled up in the eyes
Of Seamus, Sean and me.

(chorus 2)
Jaysus, what a lovely man,
His eyes so clear and blue.
Old walkin' stick, curved steep but strong,
That teller of the truth...
Then his tone went gentle, but words so keen,
To three youths such as we,
As he shaped the future of our lives...
Seamus, Sean and me.

(Verse 4)
"You've heard my one last story now,
A tale, more true than sad.
But you'll know a hundred others, so,
Go live them all, me lads..."
And a sleepiness swept over us
As he looked down on us three...
Closed his eyes, and died right there,
Next to Seamus, Sean and me.

(bridge/fadout...)
Its thirty years since last I cried,
Still, oft' I think of he...
And Sean, hanged high in Dublin yard,
Of Seamus, 'cross the sea.
I've drunk my poteen, spilled my ale,
But still, I'm far from free,
From livin' in the memory of
Young Seamus, Sean and me.

Lost dark, within the Irish curse,
Of that wizened Shanachie...

Night Games

(c)2003 words and music
by Mike Dunbar

Baby, you turn off Oprah,
I'll put on Barry White,
Go ahead and light some candles,
I'll pull the shades real tight,
You can put on that black lace,
I bought for your last birthday,
We can shut out the ratrace,
And take our lovin' all the way,

CHORUS
We can play NIGHT GAMES,
In the middle of the day,
The baby's asleep so, baby, we can play,
We get worn out when the evening comes,
But we won't throw our lovin' away,
So we play NIGHT GAMES,
In the middle of the day.

I go to work real early,
To get home in the afternoon,
You can fix dinner later,
We'll do the dishes by the light of the moon,
We're both makin' time for lovin',
And lovin's gettin' better each day,
There ain't no rules about it,
So come on, baby what do you say,

We can play NIGHT GAMES,
In the middle of the day,
The baby's asleep, so, baby, we can play,
We get worn out when the evening comes,
But we won't throw our lovin' away,
So we play NIGHT GAMES,
In the middle of the day.

One Vivian George 2003

Love
The wolves are at the door
Howling and the moon’s not even full
Here for the thrill of getting in
And the bloodletting
Love
Run away with me
While we still have breath in us to breathe
While we still have beating in our veins
And feel like running

Chorus
They say love can save the world
But tonight there’s just
One
What are you waiting for
One
What are you waiting for
What are you waiting for….

Love
It’s real these sticks and stones
Broken hearts, broken bones
And this straw won’t turn to gold
And these damned walls won’t hold
Love
I think it is our time
For a happy ending I’m
Just waiting on a cue
To run with you

Chorus / outro
They say love can save the world
But tonight there’s just
One
What are you waiting for
One
What are you waiting for
What are you waiting for…..
They say love can save the world
But tonight there’s just
One.

Cinderella Dreams
Copyright 2003
Leslie Harris (Platinum Quality Music)

Cinderella Dreams

Chorus
Cinderella dreams of all the little charming things
Princes on horseback, rescued damsels and dazzling kings
But what happens when you must face reality
The backside of a hand is the foe to joyful fantasy

Verse 1
You let me breathe you with all of my might
Inhaled the strength of you; gave up the fight
Sometimes there’s no use in resisting a magnetic pull
I remember, I was the china store and you were the bull
Crashing into my world; I had to let you in
Guess that’s where my nightmare began
Oh, oh, oh
‘Cuz

Chorus
Cinderella dreams of all the little charming things
Princes on horseback, rescued damsels and dazzling kings
But what happens when you must face reality
The backside of a hand is the foe to joyful fantasy

Verse 2
Under a silver moon you enchanted me with a smile
Gave my heart reason to beam like a little child
I remember, how you wooed me to the very end
Was like second nature to my soul when I gave in
You love me; you need me; I have often said
Strangely, I never thought that our love would be dead
Ooh, ooh, oooh
‘Cuz

Chorus (2x)
Cinderella dreams of all the little charming things
Princes on horseback, rescued damsels and dazzling kings
But what happens when you must face reality
The backside of a hand is the foe to joyful fantasy

Bridge
I never knew that love could define one’s world
It turned me from a strong woman into this strange little girl
I gave my all to be the Cinderella that you need
But you gave nothing back; just made my heart bleed
‘Cuz

Chorus (4x)
Cinderella dreams of all the little charming things
Princes on horseback, rescued damsels and dazzling kings
But what happens when you must face reality
The backside of a hand is the foe to joyful fantasy

This Lyric is #031

                                                   Wake Up!

It's early Monday morning,
  I'm asleep and dreaming of
A world of peaceful, healthy people
  Bonded with God's love.
Harmony's the ruler – Serenity's the norm.
No one's left out in the cold.
It's cozy, safe and warm.

[rude alarm clock noise]

Wake Up! It's time to go to work!
Roll up your sleeves, prepare to sweat.
For regrettably this dream's not true –
  At least not yet.

For there are forgotten people,
At least it seems by most.
They are thousands strong but oh so weak,
And giving up the ghost.

Yes, heaven's filling up to fast
  Those souls are needed here.
We can't afford to have a culture
  Up and disappear.

It's holocaust proportions,
  It's dreadful and it's sad.
And anything I can do to help,
  I'm only just too glad.

Wake up! Pitch in!
Get up and on the case.
Would you please help to dry the tears
From a grieving mother's face?

It's often easy to ignore
  Big problems far away,
To hide our hearts from tragedy,
Say "What a shame" and look away.

But imagine your own family,
  Dying painful deaths.
It's here and now in Africa
  The cheeks are streaming wet.

Wake up! Attention please!
Can we at least just once a day,
Fall down to our knees,
And ask for insight from above
On how to best proceed
To help to cure the ills of those
Who just can't help themselves.

To educate – and medicate.
The time is now – don't hesitate.
Pick up the phone – It's not too late.

Wake up! Don't roll over.
  For every day we snooze
We lose eight thousand lives.

Hug your children close to you,
   Hug your moms and wives.
Listen to your heart,
  And try to realize
The blessings that we fail to count.
  Please don't close your eyes.

Wake up! And smell the coffee
  That we can thankfully afford.
Because here in America
We've been so blessed by the Lord.

Wake up! And stretch your arms.
Toward Africa!
Please lend a hand
For we've been given much too much
To fail to understand.

It's time to go to work now.
   Let's start another day.
Another dollar kept or shared–
   It's your choice either way.

[Refrain]

Wake up! America!
 Wake up! And share!
Wake up! America!
  It's time we cared!

CAN YOU SEE ME

CAN YOU SEE ME, CAN YOU HEAR ME
CAN YOU TELL I’M DOING FINE
DO YOU KNOW I’M VERY HAPPY
‘CAUSE I’VE FOUND A LOVE THAT’S MINE

DO YOU KNOW YOU’RE ALWAYS WITH ME
I HOLD YOU IN MY HEART
EVEN THOUGH WE’RE NOT TOGETHER
WE’VE NEVER BEEN APART

CAN YOU SEE ME, CAN YOU HEAR ME
CAN YOU FEEL THE LOVE WE SHARE
DO YOU KNOW HOW LONG I’VE WAITED
FOR SOMEONE TO REALLY CARE

DO YOU KNOW YOU’RE ALWAYS WITH ME
I HOLD YOU IN MY HEART
EVEN THOUGH WE’RE NOT TOGETHER
WE’VE NEVER BEEN APART

CAN YOU SEE ME, CAN YOU HEAR ME
I’M SO SORRY FOR THE TEARS
DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH I’VE MISSED YOU
FOR ALL THESE MANY YEARS

DO YOU KNOW YOU’RE ALWAYS WITH ME
I HOLD YOU IN MY HEART
EVEN THOUGH WE’RE NOT TOGETHER
WE’VE NEVER BEEN APART

AND I KNOW YOU’RE UP THERE WATCHING ME
I CAN FEEL IT IN MY HEART
EVEN THOUGH WE’RE NOT TOGETHER
DAD
WE’VE NEVER BEEN APART

Sorry (c)2003 Marian Mastrorilli

So you think you're a god
I've got news for you, you're not
No, you're not the new messiah
But you might be a pariah

If gods walked the earth I'm convinced they would be
Agents of goodness and divinity
But you are the agent of malice and rumors
Spreading your poison like malignant tumors

So you think you quit your vices
Now you're the posterboy for niceness
But when you're good, you get evil
Why don't you pour a drink, then a refill

I tried to be grownup and put this behind
'Cause I am convinced you are out of your mind
You act like a child who did not get his way
I'd have to be crazy to think you would say

Sorry, I'm sorry
You did it again, you did it again
No "sorry, I'm sorry"
This is the end
This time I have learned
How I have learned
Now I know, oh whoa

So you think you found religion
I don't see you at soup kitchens
"Love they neighbor" rings hollow
From your mouth, it's hard to swallow

I tried to be grownup and get past the hurt
But I can't resist joining you in the dirt
You've taken your grudge to a whole 'nother level
You're not a god but you might be a devil

Sorry, you're sorry
You did it again, you did it again
No "sorry, I'm sorry"
This is the end
This time I have learned
How I have learned
Now I know, oh whoa

Sweet Spot

For so long cool was the only way to be
that seemed worthwhile
I have to laugh at all the stupid shit I’ve done
just to look in style
There was a boy in the bedroom
but I had to lose him,
I needed more headroom,
more time to feel what it is to be me
and be real
The longer I live, the less I’ve got to prove
the more i’ve got to give, the less i’ve got to lose

Everything’s got its sweet spot,
just takes patience to find
everyone’s got their sweet spot,
this is mine

I’ll share my joy with the world

I don’t look like you, I don’t sound like you,
I don’t do like you do but I like you
Don’t need to be like you to like you,
I love you
No need to be like me, that is not the key,
just need to get released
Set yourself free

and share your love with the world

Autumn

It comes to us all, it’s so
To have and to hold, and let go
The sweet summer day
Drifting away
And Autumn must come, I know

The moment and the memory
Are turning as one mystery
The touch of the leaves
That fall from the trees
And everything you are to me

I know there will be tomorrow
And love lives longer than sorrow
We’ll meet beyond the strife
My darling, the love of my life

It comes to us all, I know
To have and to hold, and let go
The best of our days
Drifted away
We walk from this world alone

I know there will be tomorrow
And love lives longer than sorrow
We’ll meet beyond the strife
My darling, the love of my life

KEEP IT SIMPLE by Jim Schmieder jim@famvid.com
VERSE
Keep the words simple that you have to say
I will understand them better that way
Don't leave me there scratching my head
Thinking about them when it's time for bed
VERSE
When there are things that you want me to do
Let's always have one plain and simple rule
After you put up that honey-do list
You'll be sure to leave it with a kiss
CHORUS
Keep it simple when at work or at play
Make it easy to get through each day
Let's pray together and follow GOD's word
And live together as one in the LORD
VERSE
At those times that we don't see eye to eye
Let's not leave each other hurting inside
Jus say "I'm sorry" with a simple smile
And hug and hold and embrace for a while
VERSE
We don't think quite as fast in our old age
So that we're not always on the same page
When our brains are racing in overdrive
If we simply slow them down, we'll be fine
CHORUS
VERSE
When we both have had a long hard day
And there is something that we need to say
Let words come out that are simple and sweet
They may prove to be just what we need
VERSE
There's no need to make it difficult
To raise a voice or to begin to shout
Maybe we both simply misunderstood
Let's be understanding, like JESUS would
CHORUS

Dreams

By: Michelle Dumond

Lately
I've been forgetting to call my friends
Good thing there's not many to ignore
I've been having the strangest kind of dreams
What is it they are warning me

Of a polar bear, chasing me,
oh he's going to get me...

Float on memories, float on by
Yesterday was not an easy day
Yesterday was not easy

All the ordinary things that I do
Take on a new point of view cos'
I've been having the strangest kind of thoughts
What could it possibly mean....

That a polar bear is chasing me,
that he's going to get me...

Float on memories, float on by
Yesterday was not an easy day
Yesterday was not easy

INSTRUMENTAL

Float on memories, float on by
Yesterday was not an easy day
Yesterday was not easy

Float on memories, float on by
Yesterday was not an easy day
Yesterday was not easy

"Read This When I Go" by Robin D. Lowe

1st Verse:
Her husband, had to leave today
In his uniform, she watched him walk away
Before he left, he pressed a note....gently in her hand
He said, "Read this when I go, and you will understand."

Chorus:
This is my country and I'm proud to feel this way
Like heroes long before me, there is a price to pay
If I die defending, what I hold to be true
I love my wife, I love our life, I'll keep it safe for you

Bridge:
Sweet freedom has it's cost
Bravery is free
We owe our rights, to those who fight
For you and for me

2nd Verse:
Mrs. John O'Malley spoke today
She said, "In his uniform, God sent him on his way.
Before he left, he pressed a note, gently in my hand.
I'll read it for you now, so you will understand."

Sad Music Man

I see a sadness in your eyes
You keep it to yourself
Something your smile cannot disguise
It's always there

I think it's coming from the heart
You keep up on a shelf
You know it can't be torn apart
If you don't care

You fight a battle every day
Of deep down loneliness
It never seems to go away
But you are free

You laugh and joke like you don't care
Just seem oblivious
Everyone else is unaware
Except for me

{chorus}
That you're a man who's torn in two
You're missing the best part of you
Not sure you realize it yourself
It's in the box, up on that shelf

Once in a while you let me in
I feel you start to feel again
But you let fear push me away
And you're still torn in two today
_____

You put so many songs away
God gifted music man
They're sitting on that shelf today
Along with me

A peace like you have never known
Is slipping through your hands
Freedom just means that you're alone
Someday you'll see

As long as your heart's locked away
You won't be free.

A little Wiser

(Words and Music by Niki Smart
January 2003)

I made a conscious choice
Gave myself a voice
And faced my demons

I climbed out on the ledge
Then jumped off the edge
And went free fall

Everything went dark
For the longest time
It terrified me

I cried a million tears
Re-opened childhood fears
Clung on till I was sober

Because I wanted to know
How it would feel
To be a little wiser

Yes I wanted to know
How it would feel
To be a little wiser

I DIDN’T MEAN TO HURT YOU
@ SANDRA JEAN FOSTER 2000

I DIDN’T MEAN TO HURT YOU
I WAS JUST BEING MYSELF
IT’S ALL IN THE STARS YOU SEE

THEY SAY THAT I’M A LEO
QUEEN OF THE JUNGLE
SOMETIMES MY ROAR IS MISUNDERSTOOD

THE WHOLE WORLD IS A STAGE
I WANNA BE THE STAR OF THE PLAY
SOMETIMES IT SEEMS THAT I DON’T CARE

PLEASE ACCEPT MY APOLOGY
HURTING YOU IS LIKE HURTING ME
I DON’T WANT TO BE THE CAUSE OF OUR PAIN

I DIDN’T MEAN TO HURT YOU
I WAS JUST BEING MYSELF
IT’S ALL IN THE STARS YOU SEE

THEY SAY THAT I’M A LEO
QUEEN OF THE JUNGLE
SOMETIMES MY ROAR IS MISUNDERSTOOD

IT’S ALL IN THE STARS
IT’S IN THE NUMEROLOGY
SOME EVEN SAY IT’S IN THE RUNE

PLEASE ACCEPT ME FOR WHO I AM
I’M TRYING TO BE THE BEST I CAN
AND I WANNA BE MY BEST FOR YOU

I DIDN’T MEAN TO HURT YOU
I WAS JUST BEING MYSELF
IT’S ALL IN THE STARS YOU SEE

THEY SAY THAT I’M A LEO
QUEEN OF THE JUNGLE
SOMETIMES MY ROAR IS MISUNDERSTOOD

The Madlibs Song

Every year, the end of August
There’s a cry across the nation
A collective “omigod”
As all the shrinks go on vacation
How could they leave us hanging
After all that we’ve been through?
How could they dare suggest
They might have better things to do?

I traditionally fall victim
To this end of year distress
But after years with the same therapist
She knows me well, I guess
And because she knows how hard it sometimes is
For me to cope
In ending our last session
She gave me an envelope

She said, “Here is an exercise
I’d like you to complete
I’ve prepared it for the session
That we’ll miss this coming week
So at our regularly scheduled hour
If your thoughts have got you down
This hopefully will help you feel
Just like I’m still in town”

So half past three on Sunday
I sat down beside my desk
Read through the words she’d written
And tried filling in the rest:

An ADJECTIVE thing happened to me in NAME OF A PLACE
When my FAMILY MEMBER PAST-TENSE VERB
And said, right to my face
EXCLAMATION, said FAMILY MEMBER, you are really ADJECTIVE
I stood there VERB, IN “ING” FORM for the best response to give

It was difficult to know whether to VERB or let it pass
When everything inside me said to VERB him in the BODY PART
It brought out all the FEELING I’d experienced as a NOUN
But I handled it ADVERB, Doc I know you’d be so proud

Here’s a visualization to help me VERB the NOUN away
I am at NAME OF A PLACE on a bright, ADJECTIVE day
MALE CELEBRITY is with me, we share an ADJECTIVE gaze
Now I’ll hold that feeling with me ‘till you’re back in NUMBER days.

I finished this assignment
Crossing “T”s and dotting “I”s
When a realization surfaced –
And it caught me by surprise
This is more than just a method
To survive my shrink’s vacation
It’s a Madlib –
Getting mad’s a form of psychic liberation!

So I flipped that paper over
And I let my feelings flow
Even though you’re on vacation, Doc,
There’s something you should know…

You’re probably VERB, IN “ING” FORM on the NAME OF CRUISE SHIP LINE
Or gazing at the PLURAL NOUN as you sip some PRICE RANGE wine
But that Madlib VERB IN PAST TENSE to some feelings deep and true
So I say VERB it, time to give some NOUN where NOUN is due

That exercise in NOUN was a professional disgrace
If the AMA found out, you’d have COOKED FOOD upon your face
I know you have a NOUN from THIRD-CLASS JR. COLLEGE State
Is this what made you think that you are worth YOUR HOURLY RATE?

If there’s one thing that I’ve learned over the course of therapy
It’s that my problems stem from unexpressed hostility
So dig out MALPRACTICE POLICY BY WHICH YOU ARE INSURED
But don’t wait for me on Sunday – After this, I think I’m cured.

Lookin' Out of My Window

There's dark skies, lookin' out of my window
and my memories, won't let me be, let me be

I see the world lookin' out of my window
there was a time when I was free, now it ain't me

Time slipped away, lookin' out of my window
all the dreams I had, all went bad, but I ain't sad

there's a coldness now and the dreams are faded
the skies got dark and my mind is jaded
you gotta hold on to your dreams but you can't be a dreamer

there was the whole wide world, lookin' out of my window

but now it's all burned down, down to the ground

there's an old man stumblin', lookin' out of my window
did he used to be free, is he me? oh god it's me

there's a coldness now and the dreams are faded
the skies got dark and my mind is jaded
you gotta hold on to your dreams but you cant be a dreamer...

Welcome To My Life
©2003 Amelia Rose

(V)
Ten years old in a world to explore
There was nothing I wouldn't do
Chasing dreams and butterfly wings
Climbing trees to prove I could
The only girl on a street of boys
Yeah...I thought I was cool
Counting stars with no doubt in my heart
Every wish would come true

(Ch)
Oh, welcome to my life
From the land of innocent days
Where daddy was my hero
And the world was one great place
Summer sun, meant having fun
Camping out on moon lit nights
When everything was wonderful
Oh....welcome to my life

(V)
High school halls turned to college walls
I was starting to make my way
Taking tests and doing my best
To hold on and graduate
I fell in love a time or two
Yeah...I found my heart could break
Live and learn, time healed the burns
As I moved on from my mistakes

(Ch)
Oh, welcome to my life
From the land of confusing days
Where love was a great mystery
And the world was one tough place
Growing up, sometimes was rough
But I made it through just fine
When everything was changing
Oh....welcome to my life

(Br)
A few years down the road, with daddy by my side
He gave my hand to another man, and I became a wife
The foundation of our home was held together by God's grace
And we felt love we'd never known....
When we saw your newborn face

(Ch)
Oh, welcome to my life
From the land within my heart
Where love can not be measured
As I hold you in my arms
A treasure to be cherished
When I look into your eyes
Where everything is beautiful
Oh....welcome to my life

(Tag)
Yeah, everything is beautiful
Oh....welcome to my life

Journey to Somewhere
Marty Helly
(c.)2002

V.
I'm on a journey to somewhere
And I'll thank you for sharing the ride
The longer I travel the clearer it seems
My destination... Is somewhere inside

Ch.
Sometimes I can't find the exits
And the tolls always seem too high
There are no rest stops on the road of life
So I'll keep moving
And enjoying the ride

V.
I have a map but the lines are all circles
And no words to show where the road ends
The point of the map is direction
Best comes from your circle of friends

V.
I thank my love for refueling
My spirit when it's getting low
A smile and a touch when the going gets rough
Tell me I'm on the right road

Ch.
Sometimes I can't find the exits
And the tolls always seem too high
There are no rest stops on the road of life
So I'll keep moving
And enjoying the ride

Br.
At every fork in the road
We have a choice to make
Everything that follows
Depends on the path that we take

V.
When the time comes to shut off the engine
And these wheels will no longer turn
I hope that I find this road in my mind
Is one where few bridges were burned

Ch.
Sometimes I can't find the exits
And the tolls always seem too high
There are no rest stops on the road of life
So I'll keep moving
And enjoying the ride

T.
I'm on a journey to somewhere
Thank you for sharing the ride

"Mirror Mirror"
Lyrics and Melody by Marianne L. McClain
Copyright 2003

Verse 1:
I try to talk to you, but you don’t answer.
I try to make you hear, but you are deaf to me.
I try to open your eyes – let some love shine through,
but you can’t see me. You are dead inside.

Pre-Chorus:
Oh mirror, mirror on the wall,
let me in before I fall!
The spiral down is dark and frightening.
Can’t you please let some light in?

Chorus:
I pray to myself, that which I seek to find.
I bang on glass walls that I hide behind.
I want to get out, but I just can’t get in.
Why must change come from within?

I pray to myself.
I cry to myself.
Wonder why I can’t hear?

Verse 2:
I want to grasp your hands, but can’t connect.
I want to reach inside, but there’s a wall between.
You mimic my words, empty and voiceless.
You mimic my pain, but you are dead inside.

Pre-Chorus:
Oh mirror, mirror on the wall,
is there hope for me at all?
The spiral down is dark and frightening.
Can’t you please let some light in?

Chorus:
I pray to myself, that which I seek to find.
I bang on glass walls that I hide behind.
I want to get out, but I just can’t get in.
Why must change come from within?

I pray to myself.
I scream at myself.
Meaningless words on deaf ears.

I cry endless tears.

I Won't Be Here Long
© 2000 Harriet Ames

vs1
They moved into a rental on the lower side of town
And began to scrimp and save, so they could put their money down
On a house of their own, but every year it was postponed
And each new neighbor heard the speech he had chiseled in stone

Chorus
I won't be here long
I've got a dream
I know I look like you
But I'm not what I seem
So don't count on me a year or two from now
'Cause I can't stay
This is just a fleeting stop along my way
I won't be here long, I must be on my way

vs2
She was an actress waiting for her breaking role
To pay rent she worked in jewelry, selling silver and gold
And to everyone's surprise, she turned down each chance to rise
As she passed up each promotion, She'd say with gleaming eyes

Ch
I won't be here long
I've got a dream
I know I look like you
But I'm not what I seem
So don't count on me a year or two from now
'Cause I can't stay
This is just a fleeting stop along my way
I won't be here long, I must be on my way

Bridge
So when do you give up on your dream and let it die?
Can you ever know for sure?
Why are some content, living the lives that they lead
While other people's dreams still endure?

vs3
Like the eighty year old man, the vision in his head
While nurses hover rouond the clock, rarely leave his bed
Though his health does not improve, and some days he cannot move
He tells the other patients a tale they pray is true

Ch
I won't be here long
I've got a dream
I know I look like you
But I'm not what I seem
So don't count on me a year or two from now
'Cause I can't stay
This is just a fleeting stop a long my way
I won't be here long, I must be on my way

I won't be here long
I must be on my way.

Neverland Rag
By: Stephen Scott

Sweet baby’s running hard like a dopefiend screamin’ for some pain killin’ dreamin’ dyin’ cryin’ leavin’
Wore me out
I never meant to do you any harm
But you done rode that lie to neverland
And I now I’ve found my perfect storm

Our grandads new what it was for, they had the general store and the perfect war
The great depression and a couple of bombs, while the rest of us just twiddle our thumbs
And we got the balls to ask for something more
But we done rode that lie to neverland
Ain’t gonna see your perfect storm

The Mom and Pop no more exist but guys like me we can’t resist
I might put it up and tear it right back down but at least I can say I’ve been around
While the rest of you sit on your hands and dream
but we done rode that out past Preston Boulevard
and it was enough to make you scream

Every generation has its tilt-a-whirl whether 9-11 or the harbor at pearl
You say its fine, we’re closer now
Then if that’s the case, why are you complaining... it seems to me they did us good
We’ve rode this war to the people’s hearts
just like you said you would

Where are they up until today so close but yet so far away
Twas all I had to keep on breathing but now I sit here unbelieving
While others like me are... with still nowhere to go
But it seems like we’re gonna be okay
Because the bible tells us so

This for the land that broke your heart, from whence you thought you’d never part
While we sit and count our lumps of coal, for the generations new and old
But it seems to me... I might just make it through these days
I guess I’ll ride it out till the wheels fall off
But I hope its just a passing craze
