Ray is right about the name of the operation. Sue is right about it being done with the cooperation of the Mexican government (I had to look that up). 9ne is right about it being a disrespectful term today.

Sue, why would you think I'm supporting open borders? All I said was that the purely economic argument doesn't stand up, even taking into account the valid points you make. A lot of people far smarter than me have done the studies on this. There are lots of costs, including welfare payments, the cost of educating children, etc. Most of those who have studied this come down on the side of the economic benefits outweighing the costs. The Social Security Administration, for instance, is quite open about the $13 billion contributed to the fund by illegals who will never see a dime back from it. All I am saying is that any problem is better addressed in the possession of the facts, rather than purely on a knee-jerk reaction.

Can people please stop assuming the views and attitudes of others? I just wanted to present a dry academic fact about the economic cost of immigration. As a result I have been called a socialist, a fan of catastrophic Venezuelan economics, a supporter of open borders and more. None of those are true. It seems that to some being a supporter of facts and reason makes one some kind of rabid lefty. I have known some real rabid lefties in my time and they were no more fans of these values than their right wing equivalents.
