Personally, it makes me hope that you are willfully lying about it, because that, though insidious, if true, would indicate a realistic grasp of the implications of the original statement.

the irony is that the song is really about how people latch onto phrases, repeat them endlessly, and turn them into something much bigger than they originally were. That’s exactly what seems to have happened here.
