JJ Cale's solution was to take the entire back off his Harmony and also bore about a 2 1/2 inch hole in the side near the neck--he said he was going to mount a mic there!
It is all documented on the 1979 DVD of him playing with Leon Russell at Leon's studio--check it out--its awsome!
