As an Englishman I find that most Americans are 'sane, normal' people who don't like a lot of things about their country or what their country does - it is exactly the same in England and I suspect everywhere else as well - but one of the fundamental differences is the definition of "patriot and patriotic", it seems like it is a cardinal sin in America to not be patriotic where-as most people in England would not consider themselves patriotic at all, I'm sure we love our country just as much as Americans love USA but we do not "love" our government or our system in the same way that Americans seem to "idolise" theirs and their willingness to believe the 'propaganda'.
I think that recently they (the American people) have had access to other people all over the world, through the internet, and I think a lot of them are becoming more aware of how the rest of the world see's America and they are beginning to question what their government and big business's are doing in their name.
I have to admit I am not happy with the way the English government has behaved both with USA and the English people. There is a wave of discontentment growing all through Europe and I think the same is happening in America, it is not the usual malcontents that are being vocal but those 'sane normal' people who are discovering that their lives are at the mercy of people whose motivations are greed and power and not the well-being of the people.
