Hi guys- This is a new one between Dave and myself. It features Cassidy Feasby on vocals, and Dan Hochhalter on banjo and fiddle from Dierks Bentley's band. Thanks to Dave Becker for the great lyrics and trusting me with his baby. I loved making this song. https://soundcloud.com/bobby-earl-ray-1/shotgun-justiceVERSE 1 I'm on the run I've got my gun It's the only thing that I trust To get the job done I'm all alone I'm on my own Ten bucks in my pocket Some change and a dingy old comb CHORUS They can steal my life Then watch me bleed Take my money Rip the soul out of me The judge said son That's the way it must be Shotgun Justice burns in me VERSE 2 A shotgun blast To cleanse the past You right a wrong Into the darkness you're cast You lie in wait Until the job gets done Take out two lives Now you're on the run PRE-CHORUS First they took my home Then he took my wife I see them with the kids On a Saturday night CHORUS They can steal my life Then watch me bleed Take my money Rip the soul out of me The judge said son That's the way it must be Shotgun Justice burns in me SOLO……………………………………………. BRIDGE (SAME MELODY AS CHORUS) I had them in my sight I wanted them to see What their lies Had done to me So with the barrel pointed At my head Bang Bang baby, now I'm dead VERSE 3 It's judgment day What can I say I beg for his grace In shame and disgrace Absolution It's way too late I plead my case And await my fate

Hey Mackie- thanks so much man. I truly appreciate the kindness you show to myself and so many others on here. This will be the last song I'll be putting out for a while. My wife and I are moving south , so I'm packing up the studio and getting ready. I'm looking forward to meeting you. I'll be using Cassidy and Dan on some of my own songs coming up. You helped me get the ball rolling on collaborations, and I will always be indebted for the opportunity you gave me. Thanks for listening brother Mackie!!!!!!!!- Bobby

Shotgun Justice was the first demo I ever posted on the JPF mp3 forum. It was the first song I posted as it remains my personal favorite of the songs I have ever written. Bobby has truly taken it up 20 levels or more. I couldn't be happier with what he has done with it. My sincerest thank you to Bobby, Cassidy & Dan for all their efforts. I hope many more are in our future Bobby.
Thank you also Mackie, Ed, Stevie and Doug for the comments and listen. It is much appreciated.
Dave

Hey Eddie- Getting a bingo from you is like hitting the lotto. I tried a couple of different things i the mastering, and I think Cassidy sang the right vocal for the lyric. Dan laid way back, but gave the song the hint of country it needed. I did a lot of swearing trying to lay down the bass on this. I do things without punching in and out, so playing it correctly was a real challenge. Thanks for listening Eddie. I'll get a hold of you once we move-Bobby

I remember the original and just went and listened to it again. This one has more of a polished sound, for sure -- but I can't tell if it is more effective or not in portraying the lyric's message. Overall, I think it is a step up from the original, you all make a good team.
Do me a favor -- go write a happy tune (ha,ha).

Bobby, this is a super song but I feel it's missing some things or something? Bring the music up in certain parts, bring the vocal up in others... keep working on it and get it radio ready, you got something here!! :))) scotty

Great song! It has all the makings of the soundtrack for an epic Cowboy movie. Lovely vocals and guitars, but that synth-guitar in the verse (the one that sounds like an auto-accompaniment part) is somewhat out of place.....like watching a John Wayne move and suddenly he's using a cellphone I think the guitars, fiddle, banjo should just dominate the instrumentation. But that's just nit-picking, the song is excellent!

Hey Bobby,
Yeah, real smooth mate. Can't really give any crit, because I think it's all there.
One small nit, the waveform and my ears tell me that the song is just a bit too compressed. I'd back off a bit and let it breathe. That way, the dynamics will present themselves better.
cheers, niteshift

Hey Scotty- Headin your direction soon. I'll be refining the song after I get moved. Normally I listen to all my productions a few months after release to have fresh ears and not to remember every nuance. I'm sure there will be some changes, but I know I'm in the ball park on what we set out to do. I followed Dave's structure except for making the first chorus come up earlier. My job was to get the sound, play the instruments, and find the right vocalist to sing the story in a convincing manner. Hope to see you in Louisiana. We'll be visiting around Alexandria.....are you close to there? Thanks Scotty!-Bobby

Hey Niteshift- Good to hear from you, and thanks for weighing in on this one. Dave and I loved making this, and I know on my part I hope this is the beginning of a strong collaborative effort between the two of us. After I get moved, I'll be cranking them out again. I'll be offering demo service at affordable rates or co writes with people on here. Looking forward to Hazmat's new home........

Nice story arch and i like the violin, I would prefer more natural sounding and varied percussion, but i like things raw sounding. Those are my thoughts (i am but a baby songwriter)

Great song. The production is very good. My personal opinion is that Nite was being kind as this is very over compressed to my ears. Everything sounds even but lacks a lot of punch. Mix sound weak because of the over compression or limiting.
Everything else sounds great to me otherwise.

Hey Ricky-- I'll be re checking the song after I get moved. I tried to get a full, balanced sound. Wasn't that concerned about the dynamics in the song, but still will check again. I enjoyed your most recent song. Thanks for weighing in. For Dave and myself, it was fun to work with a couple pros, and get the best quality my equipment is capable of. Have new songs on the horizon along with some co- writes and composing music for lyricists. Thank You Ricky-Bobby

Aside from the shameless bump on this thread, I did actually have a legitimate question for Bobby and Dave: Now what? Here is what I mean. If we are being honest with ourselves, the majority of JPF posters (myself included) will never produce something of this caliber in our lifetimes. This song is, among so many other things, radio ready. So if you would not mind putting your mentor hats on for a moment, tell us what you plan to do with this song now. We have all read the posts on what NOT to do, but it would be interesting to hear what you guys plan TO do now that you have such a well-produced and well-received demo. To a newbie like myself, I imagine that somewhere in those 1,000 plus views is someone who can take this thing from demo to radio play, but I know this is not likely the case. So please, tell us all what comes next! Hopefully something good...

Hey Chris- First- Thanks for the bump, second...We do have a plan for this. Biggest thing for me is, I must leave where I currently live( Massachusetts). There is no music scene up here. My wife Sissy and I are moving down south shortly. I will be in close enough proximity to be able to take this to Nashville. My wives a great dancer, and we'll hit the Honky Tonks there. I will be sending it to publishers, pluggers, and anyone else I can think of. I will also write to some up and coming artists to try to get them to incorporate it in their set list. For ny younger male Country artist looking for a waylon, or Willie type song, this would fit for them. I'm going to continue to use guys that are touring with National Acts. Biggest thing is to not give up. I've run an add for my demo service, and for the right lyrics, there are plant more songs of this caliber waiting to come out. If you know anyone with good lyrical ability, I know how to bring their song to life. Dave's was very well written, making my job easy. We are hoping to do some more songs together. Being there to shake hands, look people in the eye goes a long way. We'll see how it's received in Nashville. Thanks Chris-Bobby

Hey Chris,
I havn't had much time to check out the boards lately as my wife and I have been traveling and getting some vacation time in, I did want to chime in though and thank you for your comments. As for me, in all honesty I have no clue what to do next with this song. When I wrote it I never envisioned a demo of such professional quality as Bobby has produced. I don't really know anyone in the industry and other than being a music fan, a second rate guitar player for a garage band, and someone that enjoys writing songs, I really don't have a clue as to how any of this works. Frankly, if we can get it to the next level fantastic. On the other hand, I am beyond happy just being a part of a song that I can be proud of.
Dave

Well, to bring this all to a conclusion, I was notified today that Dave and my effort was picked up by Crucial Music. After 3 no's it was a thrill to see that yes. They said they feel very confident about a placement. Congrats to Dave, a true gentleman on here, with a very talented pen. Let's keep our fingers crossed brother.......

Hey Guys,
I like it, but for some reason(to MY ears)...the banjo gets in the way and it feels like a pop rock tune wanting to be free (dire straits style)......nicely done.
