with Band in a Box one could if one desired create a demo and then play along with it live.
With that in mind does anyone here know of a decent amp that will not only high lite vocals but allow me to say plug in my laptop or maybe a recorded cd and then be able to sing/play along with the recording?
Is this clear enough? I am not sure if I am asking the question correctly.

I have a couple small amps that you could do that on. One is an Acoustic 30 By Electar, a gibson family product. The other is a Fender Acoustasonic 30. I practice with a looper on both amps. Their vocal abilities a very adequate, but not a real lot of control with minimum effects on them.
My friend has a Fishman Loudbox, I think its about 120 watts rms. Its small and light and very powerful.

Thank you Rick. I was looking into the Fender and planning a trip to the local music store to check some of those acoustic amps out.

If you are going to play out using this method, you should consider a small mixing board and a powered speaker.
A small unpowered mixer would give you lots of choices for plugging in and controlling, and it could feed the mixed signal into a powered (built in amplifier) speaker of whatever size you might need.

Doug, I use a modestly priced Peavey mixer which sounds excellent. Mine is a PV20 but they make a similar PV8 which would work for your application. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/pro-audio/peavey-pv8-mixer?pfm=spThe best powered speakers are arguably QSC but they are pricey. A single 10" puts out an amazing amount of sound. Cheaper ones are available from Behringer, Kustom, Mackie and JBL. All will work depending on your budget and your requirements for quality and volume.

If you want something fairly simple, compact yet good sounding then take a look at the Yamaha StagePas systems. We used the smallest one (the 300) for rehearsals for a while and it sounded very good for the price.
