The last thing I heard from you was that you were ready to turn to something "dark." Hey this was not necessarily bliss, but kind of optimistic in a Chopin flavor! I can hear this being played as folks are decorating the ballroom for a huge celebrative event.

Thanks Eddie! Actually I did composed two dark tracks before this one. Yeah Chopin, love his music, though I think this leans more towards Robert Schuman. I enjoy composing piano pieces in the old style. I just hope I mix in a little John Schick with them.

It's nice John but I couldn't get over the quantized feel. I'm guessing you performed this slow and then sped it up or actually quantized or both? IMO, performing closer to real time would really enhance the feel of this.

Actually wasn't quantized Ian! I did use a click track. 1 beat for each triplet. Each triplet started with a melody note, so it was easy keeping rhythm (playing the first note of each triplet louder).

You've got a pretty amazing sense of rhythm John. I'm impressed.

Nevertheless, I still think it needs more feeling. Perhaps play w/o a click. All the missing little rubatos one naturally does might be what I'm hearing?

And again - nice composition. I'm really liking the cohesive nature of the last couple of tunes I've checked out.

Thanks Ian! I did make an effort to increase the triples in volume from time to time. You do have me re-thinking this though. I considered a couple ritardandos, though I hated to give up the unrelenting pulse. Though when focusing on the melody it has a sense of a moderato tempo.

If you're good enough to play this at tempo, doing another version w/o a click wouldn't take much time, I would think.

I listened again and enjoyed it more the 2nd time.

Here's a mixing tip I actually just stumbled across. That trumpet sound in Libby's Old Blue Car is processed thru a convolution reverb with an outdoor impulse - set on 100% wet, 0% dry . I used perfect space in Sonar, but any convolution reverb would do the same thing. When I processed it this way, it had an amazing amount of instant space.

Love it John. For some reason it didn't strike me as being romantic though. Nothing sinister but not particularly romantic either. More like giddy, anxious, anticipating...something?

Bosendorfer has an extra 9 keys. I reckon I'll just have to work around my 88. They make models in 97 & 94 keys.
