Nice one, Wes. I can hear the chorus being a sing-along with an unforgettable hook.
The verses would need a bit more of a story line for some genres. Maybe V1 should tell a bit about why you want to get away? But it is all rhythmic which is often the most important thing.

Tired of the rat race Mike. He's just going until he gets there. Haven't you ever felt like doing that? I am a professional truck driver and I've traveled a lot. When I got off the road and started driving local, it made me feel cooped up and I got stir crazy. I dealt with it but there have been many times when I wanted to load up and go, go, go. That yearning is where this song has its roots. I hope you're having a great day brother and I do appreciate the kind words from a fellow travelaholic lol. Best wishes!

I like the picture of a wide open road, engine throbbing along. For commercial appeal I'd deleat the pills line.

I took out that line in the earlier rewrites and it made it "blah". Even if it isn't commercial, it just fits with it somehow. Who needs a recording contract right? Lol Anyway, I appreciate you taking the time to check it out and comment. I hope you've been doing well. Best wishes!

This is what I call a "Leaving song." There were lots of them in the late 90s, mainly by women like Jo Dee Messina and Chely Wright. I would call "Drive" a man's song.

Wes, my lyrical buddy, I like how you express yourself in lyrics. Still, I have a miniature nit. Please could you lead the wayFor the entire song I got the feeling he was talking to himself. Then I read the above. It made me hesitate. I think you should keep it to himself. But, that's just my opinion. Reading it I got that Bachman Turner Overdrive feeling. Which is good. Nice job. Dave
